Romans & histoires What Is A Lycan Werewolf

“Go on.” I fold my legs under me on the bed, fingers picking at a loose thread in the blanket. “What is it like… you know… being mated to a werewolf? With you being a Lycan and all?” Nyx’s gaze narrows just a fraction, but she does not call me out on the question. “It is… different,” she says slowly, as though she is weighing each word. “We have different instincts, different strengths. Sometimes, different ways of looking at the world. But the bond does not care about that. The bond is the same.”

"What about your other side? Werewolf?" He shook his head. "You are almost correct, but not exactly a werewolf. I am a Lycan. I am sure you have heard of those." Freya dropped her spoon as he mentioned that. Lycans? She thought they no longer existed. "In case you are wondering the difference, a Lycan is almost like a werewolf, only that Lycans are bigger, faster and stronger. That's all." She nodded. "Why do you keep it a secret?"

I studied fighting techniques, learned how to wield weapons, and researched my heritage. If it wasn’t already obvious, my parents and I are lycans. Lycans are the less commonly known cousins of werewolves. My parents were unable to find a lycan pack to settle down in and decided to live as ‘rogues’ or packless wolves instead of joining a werewolf pack. There are several perks to being a lycan, as I have learned. My healing ability is far greater than a human’s and better than a werewolf’s. Unlike werewolves, silver and wolfsbane will not kill a lycan. Wolfsbane gives us headaches and silver just doesn't affect us. Lycans have larger wolves and are more powerful than werewolves. However, were

The original Lycans were an evolution of the Werewolf, blessed by the Moon Goddess to be the guardians of the Werewolf species. Lycans were able to shift but walk on two feet instead of four, they were stronger, faster and healed three times faster than a normal werewolf making them better fighters and a more superior version. Just like all the Moon Goddess’s creations, when she created the first Lycans she made mates for them just like anyone else to keep them grounded.

The only thing special about her was being mated to a werewolf. Selene leaned forward, placing her hand on Marcia's shoulder. “I have brought you here to let you know the truth. You are not a simple human; in fact, you are one of my direct descendants, a Lycan.” Marcia shook her head, denying what was being said. In the reading of werewolf history, she read of the Lycans, who were similar to wolves but stronger, faster, and able to shift to a hybrid form that werewolves could not. There were not many left in the world, but those that were around ruled over the werewolf population.

“A Lycan?” I traced my finger over the picture. “I thought they were extinct.” “Most are. Only one left is the king.” My dad pulled the book away from me and switched back to the page he had originally settled on. “Lycans have two forms. A wolf, much bigger than a normal werewolf. And a half human half wolf form, like the ones you see in the movies. Weres can partially shift, but nothing that comes close to the wolfman form.” He pushed the book back in front of me. “Now I want you to focus on this spell and try to create a wisp without losing the change in your scent.”

Nodding at me all I could see was a deep aching sympathy in his eyes for me, “Yes. Wolves, hybrids and lycans have packs,” “Lycans?” I asked unsure of what that was. Nodding he smiled as he touched my cheek, “They are a very powerful and very old covenant, They rule over all werewolves and over hybrids,” Nodding I tried to process this. Pulling me back to that moment Groban gently rubbed my bottom lip with his thumb,

I urge quietly. He watches me for a second and speaks, “I’m a Lycan.” I just nod slightly, even though I don’t know what it means. “Werewolves exist,” he continues. “Everything you’ve read about or seen in the movies is real. There are different kinds, packs, hierarchies, and structures. Lycans are above them. A stronger breed of wolves.” “Top of the food chain,” I surmise. “Yes. We’re rare. We’ve existed for centuries.”

“Have they been hiding their true nature from you all this time?” “I... I don’t understand.” “Some are bitten. They change later. Hybrids. Half human. Half beast. But you... you were born this way. You’re a Pureblood. A true Lycan. And your ichor, your blood, carries traits of a lineage I don’t even recognize. That intrigues me. Fascinates me. I thought I’d seen everything. But you… you’re different.” Everything around me started spinning. The forest, the sky, the leaves, all of it whirled. My stomach turned, my feet lost the ground. I felt like I was about to fall. To faint. To vanish inside myself.

He finally dropped the other truth and I gasped again, the air in my lungs almost drying out. A Lycan. A beast from tales of old, werewolves were an evolution of such creatures. No one had existed in centuries. Lycans were basically immortal, hybrids with different sorts of wielded power. They could be vampires and demons, wizards and healers…they could be anything and still part werewolf. I shook my head, still in disbelief. All these years of him taking care of me, making sure I was safe, I never for once suspected a stoic old man to be more than just a simple healer. I couldn’t have been that naive, foolish…I just couldn’t have.
