She winked and I hugged her. When they closed the door behind them, I stood up and I tried to walk towards a hallway without touching the wall. I managed, but I leaned on a hallway wall when I reached it. I can't believe this took a lot of energy out of me but I'm proud of myself. I can walk now, all by myself without feeling my wound open. I never understood why people can't walk when they had a wound by their ribs. Now, I understand. It's hard to walk when you have a feeling that someone is poking you hard all along!

Yes, I cry in front of her, revealing how hurt and devastated I am, not even caring about how messed up I look now. And with one sentence, every connection we have is cut like a thread being torn, “I am sorry I couldn’t protect you, be happy, my Avery.” And my feet move on their own, taking every step further and further away from her. But I never look back, because if I did, I might commit a sin that she’ll never ever forgive. So I walk like there’s no tomorrow and drift further away from reality.
