When You Gaze Into The Abyss Novels & Stories

More lightening struck the temple, pillars fell, more and more cracks on the wall, the raining started falling down heavily, drenching my body, I struggled to keep my eyes open but I was too weak, the last figure I saw before I let myself fall into the Abyss was—. Naria.

Craning off the jagged edge of the chasm yielded nothing at all; the abyss was so dark and deep with thick fog obscuring any more visibility of its bottom. People say that abysses would stare right back at you when you're peering down its depths. It was exactly what everyone was feeling right now: that same giddying and nauseating sensation once one looked too long. Chu Xun projected his divine sense and his astral projection traveled down for more than ten thousand meters and still, he reached nowhere near the bottom. "Is the Queen really imprisoned here?" the Flaming Qilin burst out incredulously, "How on earth are we getting down? It's so bloody deep!"

I woke up to the sound of the shower starting, the bed empty beside me where Rhodes had once slept. My heart hammered in my chest. My dream couldn't have lasted all night, could it? The image of those haunting, unsafe eyes burned into the backs of my eyelids. I worried they were a warning, an omen to not wander further into the cage. The other half of me saw it as a sign of the danger to come, that only our answers lie beyond the mouth of that cave.

The demon definitely caught his attention. “You would eat my soul, what else?” He answered without second thoughts. Damien made it clear in the past that he would. “Yes, but aren’t you curious of what would happen next?” Chris is seeing memories as usual but the surrounding suddenly started collapsing. The scene shattered like fragile glass and then the scene turned into pitch dark. He felt the ground he was standing on shook, he felt the ground opened and he fell. Chris heard himself gasped, he is continuously falling. He tried closing his eyes but it did no comfort.

My fingers dug into roots and damp soil while my legs dangled over a black emptiness so deep I could not see where it ended. Pebbles broke loose beneath me and vanished soundlessly into the ravine. “H-help…” The plea came out broken, soaked in terror. Tears spilled uncontrollably as I clung with both hands, my arms already shaking violently from the strain. The abyss below felt endless, like one giant mouth waiting patiently for me to surrender. I do not want to die. My fingers began slipping. I squeezed my eyes shut, and once more Reign’s face filled the darkness behind my eyelids.

odd. There was a certain glaze of sadness, a far-away kind of stare in her eyes that somehow reminded Alastor of prisoners of war from historical documentaries he used to watch with Alistair when they were in junior high. His mate looked like she was... haunted. Was it because she is a goddess of the underworld?

Ryan fell into formation at my flank. The tunnel narrowed. The core was close. The mountain inhaled through my son. I inhaled back through it. And this time, the abyss wasn't studying my child. It was studying me. The Queen did not walk into the abyss. The mother did. And the abyss— Had just been hacked.

“Help me. Just a little longer.” No answer came. Black spots danced across my vision. The pain crested until I could not draw air at all. My body seized. Darkness swallowed me whole. When I opened my eyes again, I was no longer in the study. Silver threads drifted through endless black. The Abyss. I remembered it now. The cold. The weight. The voices that had pulled me back. I pushed to my feet on the rippling dark ground. “Is anyone there?” I called. My voice echoed strangely, twisted by the void. “Show yourself!”

The abyss was right there—just a few more strides. I pushed harder, my feet pounding against the earth. The trees opened up, revealing the jagged cliffs of the Silver Abyss. The ground dropped off sharply, a chasm of darkness stretching endlessly below. My vision blurred with crimson hues, the curse overtaking my senses, but I forced my legs to carry me forward. With one final burst of energy, I jumped. The air rushed past me, cold and biting against my burning skin. For a moment, I was weightless, suspended between the cursed energy threatening to consume me and the safety of the abyss.

It felt like I was falling in the depths of an ice cold volcano. And I must have actually been falling because the floor hit me hard. My lungs spasamed as the air was knocked loose from them. I rolled to my hands and knees. The floor felt cold beneath my palms as I gasped for breath. The cold darkness lifted. Faint orange light filtered through the haze. I lifted my eyes, forcing them to adjust. It was more than darkness but at the same time so much less. The emptiness around me echoed forever, only the stone beneath me gave it substance.
