When You Gaze Into The Abyss Novels & Stories

“Sapphire, it's what we woke up.” The fort shifted again, a violent, sickening lurch that sent us sliding toward the edge of the pit. As I looked down into the encroaching abyss, I didn't see fire or shadow. I saw an eye. A colossal, lidless eye, vast as an ocean, slowly beginning to open from the bowels of the earth. “What on earth have we done?”

Pleading. The sound tears through me. I reach out. My fingers brush the nearest vine. The ground cracks. A black fissure opens beneath me, sudden and wide and hungry. I scream. I fall. The abyss swallows me. Dark. Cold. Whispers rising like smoke. And somewhere far above, a faint voice calling my name. Kane.

“It’s the Abyss—opening for us, for the trinity, for her.” The spire pulsed, the runes flaring, and the sand parted, not a gate but a path, glowing black, leading down, not desert but void, the chaos beyond, the Veil’s edge, the Abyss’s heart, its shades waiting, their hum a chant, not judgment but truth: lock, spark, flame, void, choose or be chosen. The bond burned, Lucian’s voice, "we’re with you," his hand tight, Lyra’s shard warm, Mara’s nod, Killian’s shaky grin, and I stepped forward, the dagger raised, the mark screaming, the path glowing, the Abyss calling.

I drove my staff into the black earth beside me. The weapon pierced deeply into the ground. My entire body hung suspended over endless darkness. Cold sweat instantly soaked my back. Below me… There was nothing. No rocks. No water. Not even darkness remained. It was just emptiness and pure void. A bottomless abyss stretching far beyond sight. Tiny streaks of silver lightning flashed deep below before disappearing into nothingness. My heart pounded violently against my chest. Had my reaction been even a second slower… I would already be gone. Only then did a name register inside my mind. The Valley of Broken Gravity.

A huge hourglass more than 11ft tall stood gallantly at the center of the land, the sand at the top was still more than half filled so I guessed I still had time before the gate closes and locked me in. I looked around trying to locate where the abyss might be located. “What even is an abyss?” I asked to no one in particular as I made my way to look for clues. Adrian had told me I would be required to cross the river before being able to bring Lucius back, but in truth, I only needed to remain on the boat and to drop Lucius' hair which I held tightly in my palms into the abyss to allow Lucius locate me. Once the dead comes in contact with the living, the guardians wouldn't have control over

The view that my eyes could see was nothing like I have ever seen before. “As for your second question, this is called the abyss. A place where no human could ever come. As for your case, your body remains in the world of humans, but just as I told you earlier; you have the blood of an angel that is why you are able to reach this realm.”

I already did! Then close your eyes! I tried. But something moved in the glowing pit. A shape too big to understand, shadow with edges. An eye face, Something saw us. Recognized us. My vision whitened, and heat, cold, pressure. Finally, nothing came. We fell over. The abyss welcomed us.

Chapter 57: The Abyss The darkness was absolute. Liam and Xal'dar were swallowed whole, their consciousness adrift in a void of nothingness. The sensation was both terrifying and liberating, a paradoxical experience that defied logic. They felt a pull, a force that seemed to draw them deeper into the abyss. Their bodies felt weightless, their minds racing with fear and uncertainty. They were lost, adrift in a cosmic ocean of darkness. A faint glimmer of light appeared in the distance, a beacon in the endless void. They reached out towards it, their hearts pounding in their chests. As they drew closer, the light grew brighter, revealing a strange, alien landscape.

The small, green trees on the roadside swayed as the strong wind hit them. Then he finally stopped. I guess we've reached the highest point because I can now see the night view of a beautiful cityscape. It's vast and bright, as the breeze blows soft across my face. "I come here when I want to cry, but I never once did." he took a deep breath, "After my accident, I was in a coma for almost 6 months. I woke up feeling empty, I don't know anyone. When I learn about the accident and how my father died, I did not cry nor feel any pain. For 15 years, I feel like I'm in an abyss in the sea. That's why, I badly want to go back, to my past."

At this time, their luxury car happened to drive into a dark tunnel. "When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you." The alternating light and shadow flickered across Justin's profound-looking face. He stared at his reflection in the window, eyes cold and dangerous, as though seeing someone else. "But unfortunately, I am the abyss."
