Atlas The moon rose slowly over Blackwood’s northern towers, casting a muted silver glow through the frost-kissed windows of my room. Its pale light slithered across the thick patterned carpet, glinting off scattered reports on my desk, illuminating the cracked spine of an abandoned textbook near my boots. Shadows stretched along the walls like silent witnesses to my unrest.

Then, with purpose, I tossed it into the trash can. The sharp, hollow clink of metal hitting the bottom echoed through the quiet night. The wind brushed against me, its chill settling over my skin. I looked out over the night view, where even the dimmest stars held a faint trace of light. Then, I turned and stepped back inside, closing the door behind me. In that moment, I felt a stillness I had never known. Everything in the past had finally fallen with the stars into endless darkness. And ahead of me, there lay countless possibilities that I could explore one by one.

Resting her head against her knees she fell asleep. Later on, she woke up with her body aching from sleeping in that position. She opened the closet door to see the sky dyed pink, red, orange and a hint of purple. She wasn’t sure what time it was. She opened the door to the room that lead out to wards the kitchen. the Clock on the stove blinked 7:45. She knew from the place the sky filled with color that she had slept through the night. Her head throbbed with pain. Everyone inside was asleep. This was her chance to leave. She crept to the back door. There was a security pin on it. this was something new.

They just be wondering what it is that I’m doing here and why I am reading all of a sudden but that’s for me to know anyways. When I noticed that they were barely paying attention to me, I snuck out. I reached my destination. The room that I’ve been curious to see is inside. I took in a deep breath, and exhaled before opening and twisting the door knob. The door opened and I walked in. It was dark. The last time I was here, it was dark but in the morning it became bright. Does this mean the light goes off at night and comes on in the morning? I thought to myself.

The afternoon light was coming in directly now, the amber bars across the honey floors, the brick at the back glowing in the way it glowed when the sun committed. Maya was right. You couldn't hedge in direct light. I opened the retainer contract and began to read.

With the door partially open, I can peak inside. It appears to be a library. I enter inside and am greeted with massive bookshelves that reach the ceiling, black leather chairs, and stained-glass windows. I hurry over to a window thankful that the flooring is a forest-green carpet that muffles my footsteps. I peer out the window trying to get an idea of where I am. It appears I’m facing the front of the house, I look to my right and see a small porch jutting out. I release a small breathe of relief. Florida screamed excitedly, spreading her arms as she stood in front of the closed metal door. I chuckled with anticipation, my eyes gleaming with impatience. She pulled the door by the handles, revealing a dark sight. Once we walked into the room, the lights automatically actuated, illuminating the entire place with warm dazzling lights. I stared in utmost disbelief, my legs magnetized to the ground. My eyes, which seemed apparently to be the only part of my body functioning, gazed in admiration, watching my main fantasy unfold before my very eyes. Inside the large room were several tall shelves, each containing certain books of different color and size.

God, this brain of mine. I'm really out of focus these days. I looked for a flashlight to see what was behind the bookshelf. But my eyes widened to see a doorknob shining and shimmering through my sight when the light hit the steel.

The south-facing window had the best light. Not in the morning — in the morning the library faced the wrong direction, the winter sun arriving at an angle that hit the east shelves and left the south corner in blue-grey cool. But from noon onward the light came in broad and slanted and landed on the reading table in a way that felt specifically intentional, as if the room's designer had known exactly what they were doing. Lyra had begun arriving at noon to claim it before anyone else.

I ask myself. The only source of light in the room is the small window on top of the wall in the corner that has been partially closed by metal rods. Sunlight streams into the room from there, making me wonder if this is as good as it gets, and whether it will be completely dark by night.
