Soren didn’t answer, but his silence spoke volumes.
The ground beneath them grew uneven, roots twisting up like fingers grasping for something lost. A low mist curled around their feet, and the further they walked, the quieter the world became—no birds, no rustling leaves.
Only the sound of their footsteps... and something else.
A whisper.
Faint, just at the edge of hearing.
Eve froze. "Did you hear that?"
Damien’s eyes darkened. "We’re not alone."
