Once he could see a little, he was stunned by what he saw and so was everyone else. Mercedes's body had risen in the air floating above them. Her body was limp and still luminous. The shocking part was the spectrals of the White Wolves that were floating around her. The golden runes on their bodies glowed brightly. Everyone was amazed by their majestic forms, including Felix. It was their first time seeing the great White Wolves, and they felt honored to be in their presence. Felix was worried. He thought the White Wolves appeared to take Mercedes with them. He was not going to let that happen, even if it meant that he would have to risk his life.

Clarissa Lotus left the balls of light floating magically in the air as she returned to the table. Clarissa stared at them in awe. They were not too bright but still allowed them to see without the interruption of shadow. “There we go. We can sssee all.” Lotus said, self-satisfied. Clarissa’s giggles bubbled up. Lotus’s bored expression asked what was so funny. But that only made her laugh harder. “You chose the right sage,” Clarissa said through her laughter. “You and Stefan are perfect companions.”

Just thinking about the cool water cascading down his heated body made him urge the animal faster. He neared the secluded spot and stopped the horse. As he tied the reins to a tree branch, the sound of splashing permeated the air. Tall trees surrounded the pond, so he couldn’t exactly see who had invaded his bathing place. He hurried toward the water and the first thing he saw was an ugly gray dress laying on a rock.

Flipping through the pages, there were sketches of wolves, and the last page that she’d written in had a detailed rendition of a nightmarish wolf-beast that made my blood run cold at the sight of it, it’s eyes smudged over with charcoal in the shape of a protective rune. My heart raced when I realized what I was holding. This was no ordinary journal, it was a spell book.
