Exposed At The Altar
It just… confirmed what I already knew.
“In what way?” I asked quietly.
He exhaled slowly, like he was choosing his words carefully.
“It makes everything more real,” he said. “More… serious.”
I swallowed slightly.
Because that word again—serious—carried weight now.
More than before.
I looked away briefly, then back at him.
“I don’t want this to be the only reason we’re trying to fix things,” I said.
That made him pause.
“It’s not,” he said firmly.
I studied his face for a moment, searching for hesitation, for doubt.
