My muscles ache with exertion, but I love the way it feels. By the time I stop, my hair is matted to my forehead with sweat, it’s not my body that forces it but my senses — specifically, my sense of smell. The unmistakable metallic scent of blood floods my nose. I look around, trying to see where the source could possibly be. In the area I’ve stopped in, the trees aren’t as sparse and the rocks are larger so there are hiding places for predators and dead bodies alike. Just from scent alone, the amount of blood that’s been spilled must have resulted in someone’s death.

NOAH'S POV Before I even opened my eyes, I smelled the metallic tang of blood; the smell was strong and filled my senses with a dreadful urgency. My body felt like lead, my head pounded with every heartbeat, and I was throbbing with sickness, yet the smell woke me up. Something was not right. Where did the blood come from? Slowly, I brought the rose to my nose and took a large whiff to ingest the scents. The rose itself had a strong aroma, a beautifully strong plant to mask the scent of the blood. Gigi Pov I struggled strongly so the person behind me and was covering my mouth would let me go but he is very strong. I feel familiar with his scent but I can't figure out when did I smell this kind of scent. The scent is strong but it doesn't hurt my nose. It's like a strong scent of agarwood. I know the scent of agarwood because my dad bought perfume with agarwood flavor. But the agarwood I smelled was the pure type of agarwood, meaning it didn't mix up with any chemical substance.

The smell isn't strong, though, and the smell of blood isn't usually accompanied by the odor of death, which I find reassuring. What does it mean? Why do I keep smelling blood here, when there' s none in my home? Why does the scent of death smell so foul? How come that one of those odors is stronger near my husband and one of the odors in my home is so much more potent toward him than toward me? Where is the source of the blood and decaying smell coming from? Why am I not afraid? I sigh and stand up. I have to clear my mind from all this rubbish. I'm hungry.
