I know what I must do, what we all must do. To my left, Akin stands tall, his obsidian wings sharp and sleek, the wind tugging at his tunic as his eyes sweep the battlefield like a soldier gauging his next strike. To my right, River’s wings are the color of deep, angry storms. They shift with energy, crackling faintly as his fists curl at his sides. The fire in him burns steady now, no longer a threat but a force I can trust.

I can see the faint outline of what looks like wings spread behind her. Wings of fire that seem to take the shape of a heart… A piercing scream rips through the air as her power increases tenfold and surges into the sky, emanating in waves around her. I see the swirls of the flames behind her move before I see a tiny part of her left wing snap and shrivel into embers of ash. It’s too blinding to look at, and I’m forced to avert my gaze.

I make my way weaving between empty cabins and stopping in the clear center. My mate stands in burnt clothes that just barely cover her body. Her veins glow red as I watch the fire retract back into her. Silas is behind her ice overtakes the flames putting them out. I see her skin begin to glow and her eyes are golden. Two giant white wings burst from her back. Flames overtake them and she looks to the sky. Every muscle in her body is flexed and she screams the pain finally hits me and I gasp for air. I shift back on my hands and knees gasping for air.

I blinked away the glaring light, but refused to stop, holding out my arms. Beneath my skin the blue veins were glowing, growing brighter with each step closer that I took, and then when the Power was just a few metres away, it burned the brightest of all, the heat erupting from my hands.
