Just make sure all of your body parts are within the circle.” She taps her staff against a small circle of crystal inlaid to mark the very center of town in a scattered rhythm. It glows, and then gives way, creating a hole just large enough for the staff to fit. The blue crystal nestled within the cage flashes, and a net of blue lightning forms in a large, overhead dome. “Everyone move towards me,” she offers. “Unless you want to lose a wing.” Before anyone could question why, the earth shook. And the circle began to rotate, twisting downward like a screw.

“We already know. They’re witches—rejected mates. They began as a healing circle, but bitterness consumed them. They turned to black magic. Most have lost their souls entirely.” A chill ran through me. “And they’ll attack again?” “Not often,” Saoirse soothed. “Their power relies on rare moons and planetary alignments. Channelling spells weren't easy to come by, in fact my mother used to tell me that no living witch in other parts of the world could perform that. My mother had taught me time and time again that witchcraft mostly revolved around four elements. Water, fire, air and soil. Looking at the image, the candle represented fire, the tin of water was pretty direct. The pots of plant represented soil, from which they grew with the bird clearly standing in for air. What I didn't understand was the ring of fire, what did it represent? A slight headache was beginning to form, my mind overworking to try and break the hidden meaning. Where was the written spell to go along with the depiction?

It had been somewhat similar to what the witches are doing now I think. Is this the difference between the Primarch and other witches? The sheer complexity of what these light witches are doing makes me appreciate Eleanor and Emerlad’s raw power in a whole new way. As the hours pass, the witches continue their meticulous work. The magic circle grows larger and more complex, spreading across the ground in an intricate web of symbols and patterns. Some of the runes are as small as my palm, others stretch several feet across. They're all connected by flowing lines that seem to pulse with energy, creating one massive, unified design.

The Circle was an organization that our parents told us about as bedtime stories. The Circle was an organization of witch slayers that helped the Alpha to hunt down all witches. “Yeah. Why bring them up when the organization doesn’t exist anymore?” Lucas asked. “Who says they don’t? Vivian’s Ex-mate found out that Vivian is a witch and has told The Circle about it. He doesn't want Zander and Vivian to be together. The Circle is coming for Vivian,” Selene said.

I flipped back to the last page, where I saw a little paragraph titled “The Crimson Circle.” “The Crimson Circle are a group of Dark Witches who are involved in sorcery. They involve themselves in all manner of dark magic, and use a tight system and formation to keep themselves hidden.” I stopped. Could the Crimson Circle be the one in charge of what’s going on all along?

"I don't get it. Why falling in love helps us?" She slowly turned and pulled on a weak smile as she grabbed my hand. "My dear, sweet Alice. The person you are bound by has the other half of your soul. After a witch is born, their souls are cut in half and sent to our destiny. Once you find that destiny, your life is complete. You will become the most powerful witch." Her words still ring in my head after she died that day. Still confused and a bit skeptical about this ordeal. Daniel was the love of my life, but after hearing about half-souls from Octavia, I never had those solid feelings for Daniel.
