First, I needed to know who they were. Xavier stood, planting his hands on his desk. “5th Circle is an underground organization of dark witches. Their mission is to preserve the purity of the five supernatural types—witches, werewolves, Fae, vampires, and the catch-all category of beast shifters for the various animal shifter types. While I believe they’ve been around for centuries, their activity took an upswing after the demise of the Tromara.”

"I know this scent." Three women stepped out of the shadows. They were dressed in long, tattered robes made of owl feathers and dried moss. Their skin was as white as bone, and their eyes were completely black—no whites, no pupils, just endless voids. These were the Moon-Witches, the ancient guardians of the Crescent Moon’s secrets who had disappeared centuries ago. "The World-Alpha has a heavy heart," the middle witch said. Her voice sounded like dry leaves skittering across a grave. "You have the blood, child, but you do not have the Eclipse."

They lifted and spun clockwise with the witches. Emerial, who had been standing off to the side watching all of this, joined Aria and Raul. He stood behind Raul, Raul put his hands up to the sky and Aria and Emerial joined hands around him. When their hands met a surge of energy burst out and through all of us. It gained power with each circle it passed through. It lingered with the final circle until the witches stopped chanting, then it burst out again like a shockwave. “Stay connected! When Emerial and I let go you can too.” Aria commanded.

“But... but that doesn’t make sense. Isn’t the eclipse just a special event for witches?” Silvia shook her head, the fear in her eyes deepening. “No, Caroline. I’m talking about *solar* eclipses. Not lunar ones. Lunar eclipses are a good sign for the coven—times when our powers can grow stronger, when the energies of the moon are aligned with us. But solar eclipses? It’s different. With the sun shielded from view, only dark witches can access their magic fully.”

Cyrene and the witches in the Circle also would send additional witches to the Pack and so will the four vampires kings and Alphas of every Pack. It was few hours to twilight when we concluded the meeting. We had no clue how time flew. I was saying goodbye to some of the Circle members when there was a sudden crashing sound. I turned to where the sound had came from. It was Cyrene. She had dropped the black crystal stone she had been holding. I rushed to her, and so did everyone. She was standing right next to Rhona and my mate, Davina.

Just as we were about to charge into the field we saw some other emerge from the darkness and start placing objects around inside the circle. That’s when I noticed that they were creating different barriers. Several different circles within the large circle. They bought in one teenage werewolf girl who was screaming and crying and they threw her in one of the circles and the black witch sealed it so she couldn’t get out. They then brought in a vampire and threw her in one of the other circles and sealed it.

The air fills with smells of herbs and smoke as she lays out her supplies in a circle. Like my mother used to do, the witch arranges candles, draws lines on the ground, and sprinkles herbs. She knees at the edge of the circle before looking directly at me and Erie. “Please, sit,” she says firmly. “Your wolf soul on the left, and you on the right.” I hesitate, unsure if it’s safe to enter the glowing circle. I mean, she did send that golem after us. She notices my hesitation and speaks again, “If you’re both willing, and your connection is true, the reunification will not have any problems.”

Just as I step forward a hand reaches out to grab me and I instinctively take a swing. “F*ck! I guess I deserved that, but seriously that f*cking hurt.” Robbie is holding his ear. He reaches out for me again as I move to step around him. “Don’t step in the circle. It’s the witch’s wheel. That totem is what is keeping us hidden and our scent blocked. Once you step through it you become a part of the spell. It is energized by each person that crosses into it and it’s permanently binding.” He gives me a pained look.

I can’t shake the feeling that more than just our immediate concerns are at play here. “Alright, let’s start the procedure,” Elysia commands, her tone leaving no room for delay. The other two witches move closer, their focus sharp. Bertha places an onyx crystal in the center of the room, its dark surface gleaming with latent power. They join hands, forming a circle, and their faces are set with determination.

“If you could all sit, we can start. Just make sure all of your body parts are within the circle.” She taps her staff against a small circle of crystal inlaid to mark the very center of town in a scattered rhythm. It glows, and then gives way, creating a hole just large enough for the staff to fit. The blue crystal nestled within the cage flashes, and a net of blue lightning forms in a large, overhead dome. “Everyone move towards me,” she offers. “Unless you want to lose a wing.” Before anyone could question why, the earth shook. And the circle began to rotate, twisting downward like a screw.
