His scream sends birds fleeing from nearby trees. "They—they never told me!" he sobs. "Just that... just that they needed pure souls. And now..." His breath hitches. "One of them said they only need a few more." A cold breath is uniformly sucked in around us. The implications settling over us like a shroud. That means... Whatever nightmare the witches are brewing, they're nearly ready to unleash it. "That's all I know. I swear that's all! I told you. They don't really tell me much," Thomas sobs.

Just as we were investigating how to escape, I suddenly heard an ear-splitting sound. The men guarding me all shifted back to their human form and were the first to fall to the ground, writhing in pain with their hands tightly covering their ears. Oh, no! I read about this in history. Such ear-splitting sounds are known as the cry of a witch. Whoever was doing this must be a witch. But why?

Everyone around us started smiling and nodding in agreement and Wade smiled, “I would love to. The more time I get with my girls, the better for me.” He brought drinks out for all of us, then asked, “So exactly what happened that brought all of you together?” Taylor spoke first, “My very first excuse is I was raised by humans who just found me in their back yard as a newborn. Seventeen years later, I am walking in my back yard, I touch the fence and I’m suddenly in a strange room with a woman who looks a lot like me! I had no idea I was even a witch before that moment. She put shackles on me and told me to wait for my siblings. That’s how I found out I have siblings.”

It’s like Lily's whole demeanor shifts when she hears them speak of Rayali and I. Before I even have the chance to speak, something ungodly happens. And she breaks. It’s not just a cry of grief. It’s a sound that shakes the heavens. A wail so raw and agonizing that the witches drop to their knees. Even the flames recoil, flickering as if the fire itself can’t bear her grief. The wolves whimper in pain, some falling where they stand. The Wendigos snarl, thrown off balance. She runs to Nate, crying over his broken body. Sobs wrack through her. Her voice doesn’t sound like her own. It’s the heart-wrenching cry of a woman who lost her mate. And I almost wish I hadn’t woken up.

As I watch, she tears at the fabric with trembling fingers, nearly doubling over with every step. “It can’t be!” The witch cries out. She sounds as though she’s gone bad. “After all this time, I thought… I never believed it was possible–what is this?” The witch begins to sob, a great heaving fit of weeping that has her shoulders trembling and her veil nearly soaked through after just a few seconds. Every working eye on the battlefield turns to gaze at her in horror as she throws her hands up and presses her body against the ground in a clear sign of supplication.

Katrina cried causing everyone to move to the positions we had spoken about back at her house. The Witches were up front, I was within reach of them, and my brothers were behind us in case something went wrong. The Witches all put their hands on parts of my body, and faced their free hands towards Sage. “What, what….. are you guys doing??” Sage cried, but he was ignored as the Witches started chanting. “Di immortales non moritur: mors consumet. Sed contra nervo nectitur. Si converteris colligabit consequatur.” In unison and multiple times.

They looked exhausted. She wanted to reach out her hand and touch them. She wanted to tell them that she was alright. She wanted to ask them how they were. She wanted to say a lot of things to them and was sure they wanted to do the same. "What are they saying? Why can't I hear them?" Kyra said, turning to the three witches as the green mist gradually faded away. "We do not know what they are saying. We can only see them. We cannot hear them." One of the witches replied and Kyra frowned.

"What happened dear? Did his highness do something painful?" She asked. I cried even more. My lips trembled as I was feeling so alone that I couldn't even share anything. Being a witch wasn't normal at all. You had to make sacrifices and moreover it was hell scary. All the demons you could feel around, the skulls and moreover you would feel the negative energies revolving around. She patted my shoulder softly and pulled me in a softer hug. I hugged her back and closed my eyes. "I don't know why you are crying but trust me one day everything will be fine,"

I can't see what's inside, but Silvia begins to cry. Calla helps her sister attach little metal things that pinch the skin all over Silvia's body. When Euphenia flips a switch, Silvia screams in pain as her body convulses and she vomits. I smell burning flesh and feel like I'm going to be sick. Euphenia turns off the machine, and Calla takes the clips off of Silvia, who has passed out. The two witches turn to me with evil smiles. "That was on the first setting. For you, we'll put it on the highest setting. Are you ready?"
