But instead of old stories from my grandmother’s life, the pages were scrawled with strange symbols and sketches—shorthand in her handwriting explaining the purpose of different runes and sigils. Flipping through the pages, there were sketches of wolves, and the last page that she’d written in had a detailed rendition of a nightmarish wolf-beast that made my blood run cold at the sight of it, it’s eyes smudged over with charcoal in the shape of a protective rune. My heart raced when I realized what I was holding. This was no ordinary journal, it was a spell book.

He lays down on my bed and sighs. I start by looking up Byron’s profile on Mybook. He used it like his own personal diary. I began to read through the 1000’s of posts he made, barely anyone paid him any attention because he posted so much ridiculous stuff. S**t even I had to block his posts from showing up on my feed. “This could be something?” I gesture to Jordan to come over and he gets up. Standing behind me he reads over my shoulder. “The balance of wolves will never be aligned with the rare. We cannot allow them to take control. The rare are the villains not the heroes. We cannot blindly follow them any longer?” I read out loud. “What the crap is that all about?”

I looked over at Lucas who nodded at me. There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Professor Black responded, his tone alert. "Of course, Shana. What's on your mind?" "We found a book," I explained, exchanging a glance with Lucas. "It's... special. And we think it might have some connection to the Ethereal Palace." A hint of surprise colored Professor Black's voice. "A book?" "It's a locked book that is all about the White Wolf," Lucas continued. "It was hidden in a secret room in the palace. We wanted to open it to see if it could give us any clues."

Dean’s POV continued- The cells are usually kept pretty dark. Since the wolves have better night vision it’s not a problem for them, but when we turn the bright spot lights on it sure makes it a lot worse for them too. We keep the observation area dark so the rogue can’t see everyone in the room. I decided not to tell Alec and Zander because, well, I still wanted to have a little fun. We got to the interrogation area and I held up a hand so they knew to hold back a bit, then I gave the signal for the lights. The flinching and barely audibly cursing coming from the wolves? Worth it. It took a second for them to recover and I tried my best to hide my smirk as Alec looked at me.

I try again to mind link him with no answer. I hear footsteps down the hall coming towards my door. I quickly stand as tall as possible, which is hard because I am so tired and my legs barely hold me up anymore. I have to though; I refuse to show him any sign of weakness. The door opens and in walks Shane, his signature smirk and a rose.
