Cole advised. As we stepped into the room, you felt the magic of years of tradition contained within the walls of the room. Cole went to the section that said gifted wolves. He scrolled through the book titles until he came across what he was looking for. He moved to the table in the middle of the room, put the book on the table and then pulled me into his arms. I was sitting in his lap as he opened the cover. Inside were pictures of past white wolves. They were stunning and I could not believe that I was blessed to be one of them.

Like someone had placed it there for me to find. My fingers curled around the book. I lifted it slowly, carefully opening the cover. There was no title. Just brittle pages covered in faded script and lunar markings. Symbols I didn’t recognise. In the middle of the book, tucked between a page of symbols and another of warnings, I saw it. A story of a wolf with a soul that refused to leave the world of the living. It told of a warrior who died in battle, his body cold, his mate devastated. But she didn’t let go.

He informed me as he held it out for me to take. I delicately took it from him when I saw how old and fragile it looked, with the binding of it covered in dust. I stared at the cover which was a dark blue, and an engraved Golding band around the edge with a sketch of a black wolf in the middle. Just above the wolf it said, ‘The sacred wolves of the night’. “Are there any books on the other breeds of wolves?”. I asked him curiously. “No, just that one, and if you give it a read, you’ll soon find out why”.

Jace got home and sprinted straight to his research room, he needed to know the exact thing he’d seen earlier, the kind of wolf she was and the fact that he knew she was a wolf already was what was thrilling to him. Going through the bookshelf, Jace finally got to the one with the history of wolves, skimming through it, he got to the one that had an exact image of what he’d seen earlier.
