Nyx growled low. “Something smells wrong.” I slowed slightly. “What do you mean?” “Wolfsbane.” My eyes narrowed instantly. “Damn it.” Wolfsbane weakened wolves dramatically if inhaled or injected. Slowed healing. Suppressed strength. Too much exposure could stop a wolf from shifting entirely. Which meant this attack had planning behind it.

Thane let out an evil laugh. “Oh, I’m going to do more than touch her.” Gabriel shifted so fast I didn’t even see him do it. He launched himself at Thane, clashing his claws to the side of his face before being tackled from the side by another wolf. That must be Thane's beta. They circled each other growling and snarling at each other. Another wolf snuck up on Gabriel from behind snapping his back leg before Gabriel turned and attacked the wolf who had just bit him. They rolled on the ground fighting, snapping, and growling. They finally broke apart and the wolf came at Gabe again. I said, giving him a cocky grin. As expected, the words made him mad and he launched at me. I evaded his blow again. I quickly grabbed his arm - the one I injured before - and twisted it backward again. This time, the bone snapped, and I knew I just dislocated his arm from his shoulder. The guards I stationed came in at that exact moment. Together, we subdued the man with the help of the wolfsbane. "Let's take him," I told the guards. Nathaniel began to struggle. I knew he wanted to release himself, but there was nothing much he could do since the wolfsbane was an enemy to any werewolf out there.

Chapter 13. Callista-Before the arrival of His Majesty Alpha King Theon Valenti Rexellen, first of his name. Wolfsbane was one of the most potent drugs known to were-kind, able to knock off a full-grown wolf for days if administered in the right amount. I knew Farris had only given me a little, as I had woken up in less than four hours. But the after-effects were the same. As I sit in the living room, waiting for my fate to arrive, I can’t move my body or talk. My head hurt like I had been beaten senseless, and my whole body felt as if someone had tied me to a boulder and kicked it underwater. Gravity is dragging my body under, and I'm trying my hardest to fight.

I thought back to what Xee told me and grabbed the book from under the pile of notes. Skimming the index, I laid my finger on what I was searching for and skipped to that page number. At the top of the page, there was a big, bold headline of Wolfsbane. Completely fascinated by the herb and its poisonous effects on the wolves, I read till the end of the page. Hastily, I jerked the page around and then screeched when my finger ended up having a paper cut. I raised my finger to my eye level and winced at the droplets of blood leaking out.

A rustle of snow. A shadow moved. Then— A lone wolf stepped out of the darkness. Massive. Black fur. Eyes glowing silver. Rylan stiffened instantly. “Not possible.” Kade swore. “That can’t be—” Lyra’s heartbeat tripped. The wolf lowered its head… in a bow. “What is that?” she whispered. Rylan’s voice was barely human. “A sentinel.” Lyra’s breath caught. Sentinels were ancient wolves said to serve only one bloodline—one house. A house believed extinct.

Benson's eyes were beginning to turn black because I was denying him and his wolf their mate, but I didn't care. Bryan immediately stood in front of me, protecting me from Benson.
