Maybe it was about the pack Bernadette told me, I was right it was about the pack of wolves living in the mountains but before I could read it further I saw someone's shadow on the curtain, but it was just for a brief second. I closed the book in a hurry and hid it in the last row at the right end, it was barely visible with the big book next to it. I had to use all my strength to move the books to one side to make space for the red moon book.

I flipped the second page open and began reading. “After finding his mate and claiming her as his, the alpha moved to make it known under the crimson moon.” Though I had a foggy mind while reading the first sentence, my mind put the words together to make sense. This was a werewolf lore book just like the ones I’ve devoted myself to reading in the last week, but unlike those, this was a children’s book. I snapped it shut, got up, and hurried away from Zion’s room. I entered mine, went through the three books I had gotten from the store, and set them down on the bed.

I quickly paced down the hall so I could get to the room faster and open this book that felt like a newfound piece of treasure in my hands. As I scanned through the first few pages of the book, it was picture after picture of different drawings and versions of what a nightwolf was portrayed to look like. Some of them were detailed to be howling at the moon, whilst several illustrations had a sort of evil and rabid look to them. But there was one in particular that caught my eye, and instead of just flicking past it, I stopped, staring at how strikingly similar it was. The wolf was pure black, just like mine. I tell him, before I start running to hide, pulling Issac along with me. Issac and I find a spot behind a bush and sit down, waiting. “So, did you learn anything from this book?” I ask and he nods. “Maybe.” He pulls the book out of his back pocket and starts going through the pages. The wolf senses and light from the moon making reading in the dark, while still hard not impossible. He stops at a page and shows it to me. “Apparently, if this book knows anything real, there’s like a whole pack ran by a golden wolf. Like even now, the golden wolf is like their Alpha.” He explains and I take the book to read over it.

Their gazes lock, “It means that fire wolves are the most dangerous werewolf created, and that’s why they must remain pure.” She cracks up. “This sounds so much like a fairytale, and I’m not surprised. It’s the kindergarten book along with that one as well.” “Hey! Do not make jokes, Jac, these are the only books so far that graze over who you are. There are over a thousand books written about werewolves lore and none is written about fire wolves except these two and it was very hard finding them.” he frowned at her. “I’m sorry then for making fun of them and disregarding your effort.”

“I just had to sneak out because it’s a full moon and I didn’t want anybody to know that I didn’t have a wolf.” “Ohhh.” She muttered under her breath. “But you told me you found your true mate, right?” I nodded. “Yes.” “So he didn’t figure out that you were wolfless? How did your wolves sense each other?” She asked, lowering her voice. I blinked at her question, my throat suddenly dry. “I don’t…. I don’t know.” I replied, confusion creeping into my tone. “I just felt it. I don’t know how. But I know that he's my true mate. One can’t deny the connection.”

“You could end it, you know. Pick a winner. Let them live.” I snort. If only it were that easy. “Find me one who can last past the third sunrise, and maybe I’ll consider it.” Her presence flickers in front of me, like a whisp of smoke. “You’ve gone soft. I can smell it on you.” “Must be your imagination. The only thing soft here is the ground after the corpses hit it.” She chuckles and fades, leaving the back of my skull blessedly empty. I straighten, scanning the new arrivals. A witch crying into her hands. Two wolves are already posturing for dominance. A human, brave or stupid, probably both, trying to look like she belongs. Typical.
