Alpha Wyatt nods in confirmation, “We were on our morning checks.” He is a man of few words. Even in the meeting, I had with Ollie. He wasn’t this tense. I felt sad for Zander. If this was his life growing up … no one to talk to, no father figure to guide him through life … living up to the expectations of being the Alpha’s son and the perfect pact member. “Anyways, we should get going now,” Zander says, dropping his arm from my waist and tugging on my hand, leading me away from the training area back to the parking lot as Alpha Wyatt watches us.

I asked with apprehension. Dominic gave me a small look and sighed, before telling me all of it. When he was done, I was nothing short of stunned. The fact that Xander had the nerve to even think of running for the mayor of this town. Did he think that people would actually vote for him, just magically forget all the bad things he’d done in the past? And there had to be a larger goal here. The last thing Xander would do was to donate to charity out of the goodness of his heart. It was like making a deal with the devil; there was always something in it for him, and that something was much more likely to harm the other person.

He shrugged his shoulders. “I didn’t have anything better to do and Damien was going to his boxing practice. Liam was taking Kara on a date and the twins are stuck here with you. So, I decided to join you in detention.” Xander replied with a bored expression as if he was telling me that the night sky is darker than the morning sky. “You decided to join us in detention? And would you care to explain exactly how you got here?” I asked him as I crossed my arms. “It was really simple. I just told Mrs Sandy that she is a little too fat and might break her chair if she sat on it for more than a minute.” Xander shrugged as he sat on the seat beside the one that I was previously sitting in.

I win first pick and I look out to examine my options. I already know my first pick but I don’t know anybody's names. I point to the tall athletic guy with dark hair standing next to Cade. He was on my team these last two days and him and I worked well together on the court. He shoots Cade a smug look before he grins at me and walks over. “Sorry, I don’t think I know your name,” I say when he reaches me. “It’s Xander,” he replies with a smile.

“All good. Ready to get this over with.” I clap Chase on the shoulder. “You and me both,” I sigh, looking across the room to where Theo’s dad, Alpha Anders, is standing and chatting with Jax’s old man, Alpha Damian, and Chase’s father, Alpha Vaughn. I’m sure Chase is referring to the shadow pack conflict in general, but right now, I’d settle with getting this meeting over with. Council meetings are always a little painful.
