Why am I not enough?” “You are.” She reaches for me again, and I slap her hand away. “No, I’m not. You keep showing me that I’m not. Nothing I do is good enough for you.”

Not exactly. But it's something. And for now, that's enough.

Nothing she needed to escape. She woke with a deep sense of calm that didn’t fade with daylight. Before bed, she opened her notebook one last time that evening and wrote: Enough is not a stopping point. It’s a way of standing. She closed it gently. Outside, the city breathed.
