RAVENA A few days later... It was just over a week before I turned eighteen, and with that, Marina and I would finally leave that backwater, never to return. My God! I couldn't believe it was so close, that the dream we had fought for our whole lives would finally come true.

I vaguely remembered that the code to the door was my birthday date, but now, it wouldn't open no matter what I did. I texted Nathan and asked, "I need to pack. Can you tell me the code?" Why can’t you just buy her a goddamn car?” “Cameron, we are planning to get it for her next birthday.” His sister defended herself. “You said the same thing last time.” He rolled his eyes.
