Two rounds one hit his vest, the man cried out as it struck him and the other missed. Shit, he thought and ducked back down. Three more shots rang out. They barely missed him, one grazed his cheek. Zane used the mirror again, only he held it out to the left this time. The man hadn’t moved much at all; he was holding his ground. Zame stood up again and the man’s rifle was pointing to the left this time. Zane fired three more rounds, one hit his vest another his neck and the last one went through his left temple. He crumpled to the ground, dead.

As the pain became too much to hold in, Tyr let out a loud dreadful cry in his wolf’s howl which everyone in Moon Stone heard. Zane had to knock his chest a couple of times, trying to ease the pain in his chest. He was so heartbroken to know the truth just as much as Tyr’s. He didn’t expect this to be too much. He just learned about his parents and their deaths, but here’s another bomb being thrown at him all at once. When he was about to enter their place, Zane’s nose twitched at the potent smell coming from the alpha and luna. That was when he saw the couple approaching him when he turned around.

The breeze stopped blowing after about two minutes, and Jayden looked inside the casket. He was fascinated by how fresh the bloody body of a woman was staring back at him. The others all took a step back, terrified by what they saw. Jayden told the people who had gotten closer after realizing it was just a dead body and they had nothing to fear from it, "Guys, I think she just died and was just buried." All of them were now focusing on the recently deceased body. One of the girls, Vivian, sat down to touch the body and said, "I think so too."

“No. I just wanted to see how she’s doing. I’ll be around for Thanksgiving. I decided to come a little early.” Gabe studied him carefully. Zane was the kind of man who kept everything to himself and didn’t give away secrets. He probably didn’t know that Gabe already knew about Chloe’s miscarriage and her history with James, so he was trying to be careful. “You think she’s dead?” Gabe asked bluntly. Zane shrugged his broad shoulders. He was wearing a warm sweater, jeans, and hiking boots. Gabe thought he looked exactly like what he was—a science geek—and he liked that about him.

And weirdly, everyone there looked like they were dressed for something big. It wasn't until Edmond and Philip followed the van—our bodies inside, heading to the crematorium—that it hit me. Just more banging, like someone was trying to break the door down. I ran to it, fumbled with the lock, yanked it open. Zane stood there. His eyes were red-rimmed, wide, shocked. He looked like he'd run the whole way. Like he'd seen something that broke him. "Zane?" My voice came out thin. "What—" He grabbed my shoulders, his fingers digging in hard enough to bruise. "Alpha Kael," he gasped, his voice cracking. "Elena—Alpha Kael is dead."

Something he didn't want to talk about. “Zane," I pulled my hand from his grip. “Tell me. What's happening? We don't even have what we came for yet." “It doesn't matter," he brushed it off casually. “You want to be alpha. You want to stop running, right?" I nodded. "Zed dies today. Just hope he’d be part of the team that comes to pick us up. I’d return to the village with his head,” he strode forward again. “Zane," I hurried after him. The look in his eyes was making me scared. "Why? What're you planning?”

Her heart began to race as she sensed something familiar—something painfully wrong. Ahead, she saw Zane. He was on his knees, cradling something in his arms. As Cana walked closer, her legs trembling beneath her, the horrifying realization dawned on her. Zane was holding her lifeless body. The sight of her own pale, motionless form shook her to the core. Her bloodless lips, her vacant eyes—it felt like she was seeing a nightmare made real. Zane’s expression was one of unimaginable grief, tears streaming down his face as he rocked her lifeless form gently.
