"I'll get them." Her head tilted slightly, satisfied, before she sank a little deeper into the water until only her face remained visible, bubbles shifting around her. For a moment, nothing else was said. Just the soft sound of water moving. Her breathing. His. Then— A sniffle. Soft. Barely there. But he heard it. Of course he did. Kane pushed off the counter slowly, stepping closer before crouching beside the tub. The bubbles brushed against his forearms as he leaned in slightly.

His eyes search mine for an answer. I’m breathing heavily, my mind fogged by the heat of the moment, the unexplainable passion between us. I nod my head. “I’m ready.” He smiles at me, but then I remember the water. I can’t make the same mistake again. This time, I won’t hesitate. “But… aren’t you thirsty?” I ask, trying to stay calm and keep my head in the game. Zane chuckles softly. “For what I’m about to do to you, I’ll need that water.”

Upon Aurora's entrance into the Strider family's living room, she found Zane, who was furiously venting his anger. "A coward, am I? What have I perpetrated? Why must I conceal myself?" Zane, in a fit of rage, hurled a water cup to the floor, shattering it. Aurora nimbly sidestepped and remarked, "It appears you're coping quite adequately, still capable of smashing objects." Zane glowered at her, "Did you not pledge to manage this matter? Why does the situation deteriorate? Now the entire nation perceives me as a psychopath!"

Seemed like chivalry wasn’t all that dead. The sound of the bathroom door opening drew my attention away from the empty chair. I glanced in the direction of the bathroom and got my first shock of the day. Zane stepped out, wearing nothing but grey joggers and a hand towel placed around his neck. His hair was still damp and clung to his face. The scent of his bath mist mixed with the subtle scent of his pheromone, smelt heavenly. If I didn’t know my place in this situation, I would have drooled like a mad dog.

Thankfully, Zane didn’t tease me and just nodded at me before walking off towards the bathroom. I sat on the couch, lost in my thoughts, and didn’t know how much time passed before I was startled by the sound of the door opening. I looked up to see Zane standing there, wearing just a towel, hanging low on his hips. My cheeks heated up faster than I could blink. I knew that I should turn away, but I couldn’t pry my eyes away from the glorious body even if my life depended on it. Water droplets fell down his hair and my eyes followed their track as they trailed down his lips and I suddenly wanted to kiss those droplets right from his mouth. I watched riveted as the water trailed down his bare

He looked tired, but in one piece. “Hi,” Ava said and smiled at Zane. She saw him looking over her body. She was almost completely submerged in the water, only the top of her breasts was showing. “Hi,” he said. “Why don’t you join me?” she asked, holding out her hand to him. “The water is still warm and I can offer you a cookie,” she added. Zane gave her a tired smile and walked over to her and crunched down, taking her hand and placing a kiss on it.

Dawn POV I close the door behind me, put my empty water bottle in the recycling bin and head for my room. The whole while I’m brushing my teeth and washing my face, I’m replaying the events of the day in my head. By the time I’m crawling under the cover I think I have processed everything so that I understand it. The only part that is making rounds in my brain is the incident in the back yard with Zane. About that I’m still really confused. I never noticed how his eyes are the same colour as caramel. Or even though I have seen him without a shirt on like today at the beach, I would never have thought that the muscles of his chest would feel... oh like that. I think I may be in some trouble.

The impact shattered his shoulder-plate, sending shards of obsidian flying into the void. He let out a roar of pure, biological agony—a sound that shouldn't exist in a world of code. "I’ve spent my whole life being a 'Weight'!" Zane screamed, his eyes glowing with a desperate, amber fire. "Today, I’m the Anchor!"

Trying to clear my voice a little, I was surprised to realize that it came out more like those animalistic growls that Zane made than just me clearing my throat… Zane reached out for something and, to my relief, he held up a glass of water for me. Greedily I took it and I had to force myself to only take small gulps at a time. “You’re. Not. Dead,” Zane grumbled, sounding a little too enraged than a little joke like that should have riled out of him. Hell, he was clutching the rails of the bed so hard they were bending beneath his strength. But before I could open my mouth to ask about it, another voice cut into the conversation.

Her reflexes are unmatched. Zane looks shocked but not as shocked as he does when I snap his neck. His pale blue eyes hold only hate and then emptiness. I would have wanted him to live. He is my baby cousin, only 20, unmated. I didn’t want to, but he left me no choice.
