He had trouble focusing, he sometimes seemed like he was going to vomit and he was sweating a lot. Brie sat, playing with her hands as she thought. What if he was turning? She stared down at the floor. She had a gut feeling that something bad would happen soon. What if it was Adam? Would she have to kill him? She sighed. If he turned into a walker, she wouldn't kill him. She needed a plan. A step forward. Maybe they could join with other survivors and work to create a cure or prevention from the virus. Brie glanced at Melissa, who got back up and crawled over to Adam.

- Liam has spent the last hour in the family room replaying everything that happened to him, and I don't think I will ever let him out of my sight again. He found some of my backpack at the edge of the forest and tried to get our father to file a missing person's report. When he denied even knowing me, he hired a guide to help him find me. He remembered Spencer coming to him and to try and erase his mind, but it only worked for a few hours. After that, he spent the last few months looking for me. Blood flooded the air, thick and metallic, pulling in more zombies. Alan's crocodiles and Bella's lion got swarmed, throats ripped open. Dylan—already dogless—went down early and got back up with the rest of them. With real horror in his face, Alan's swagger vanished. He clutched his head and ran. He thought he found a safe corner—until one of his own lackeys, already turned, sank its teeth into him. Another round of slaughter. Bella was next. Like a lamb dropped into wolves, screaming.

Their eyes were empty, unfocused, and they were both wearing a strange, hollow smile. The rescue team leader stepped forward. "Mr. Sands? Mrs. Sands?" Dad suddenly clutched the tin of spam against his chest and shrank backward, his eyes wide. "Shh. Be quiet," he whispered, his voice shaking. "There are zombies out there. Going outside means death. "This is the last of our food. We have to ration it. We have to make it last." Mom nodded along beside him, completely serious. "One less mouth to feed. You'll get to live a few more days."

" I smiled softly. Just as I was about to reply to Jessie, Curtis suddenly barged in. "Hazel Falken! What have you done to Bree?" I didn't understand what Curtis was talking about and looked at him with a clueless expression. However, that only seemed to anger Curtis even further. He roughly grabbed me by the arm and said, "Bree's having a high fever! Don't tell me that you weren't the one who infected her with the zombie virus!" I froze in shock. "What zombie virus?" "You got jealous of her because I liked her and not you, so you infected her with the zombie virus! Let me tell you this, Hazel Falken. Even if Bree turns into a zombie, I'll still marry her, not you!"
