She is the one

Ashair POV

When I heard her mention Athens, I was jealous of him for a few moments because I wanted it to be me. I should be the one to call the human, not one of my brothers, who no one had seen for years.

"I am so glad that I summoned her. That means she should have been my mate instead," Athens boasted. I chose to ignore him, but Alaric replied on my behalf.

"The only reason why is because of Ashair and not you." I liked how Alaric was always quick to come to my rescue each time Athens, and I had an argument.

"But I summoned her, and you didn’t do anything about it!" Athens retorted.

"Enough!" Lady Jollie tapped on the table.

‘’forgive our bad manners, lady Jollie,’’ Athens apologized and started eating from his plates. Seeing as no one was arguing, I used that moment to start eating.

"Does the issue of having the same mate have to do with the fact that my brothers and I are connected?"

Lady Jollie nodded her head, just as I had expected. "She is the one that will help you all break the curse."

"How?" I asked her. "You said Athens was the one who brought her to the Lycan world, so what does that mean?"

Lady Jollie drank from her goblet and pointed to the lamb in front of me. "You haven't eaten anything, your highness," she said to my brothers, eating from their plates like they had been starved for a long time.

I looked down at the food and frowned. Even though I was starving at that moment, I refused to eat and instead focused on finding out about the strange human that had arrived in our world.

"You may eat," I said to Devin, who had not touched his food because he was waiting for me to start eating before he started eating.

What a loyal servant, I thought as I gave him a nod to start eating.

"Yes, your highness," Devin replied, nodding as he picked up his spoon and started eating from his plate.

"Jollie," I called, turning to face her, anticipating the answers to the questions I had asked her. "I need to know what's happening right now," I reminded her, and she nodded in response.

"Athens," she called my brother’s name. "I don’t know how it happened, but when the portal between both worlds opened, your brother reached out for her help because she is not an ordinary human," Jollie explained.

I stared at her with confusion written clearly on my face and heaved a deep sigh. "I have no idea what you mean by that. If she wasn’t just an ordinary human, then why can’t I see through her?"

"Stop acting selfish because this human is our only hope of getting out of this mess we all are in! " Athens said. "Instead of asking questions about her, why don't you figure out how to get out of this mess?" he yelled at me.

"Stop giving me orders and tell her yourself!" I retorted.

Athens scoffed. "Stop acting like you own the world, dear brother, because you know I can’t look at her eyes."

"Raise your head and face me," Lady Jollie ordered him.

"Doing this might affect you, Lady Jollie," I tried to warn her, but she only chuckled and tapped her fingers on the table.

Athens followed her request and raised his head to face her until they both stared at each other. "You have beautiful green eyes. It signifies great powers.

"Great powers," laughed Athens. "If I was born to be powerful, why did the soul stealers attack me by making me feel this way? It is their fault that I am like this!" he shouted. "Why am I still interested in this? I need to know why I can’t be what I want to be and instead have to deal with all of this! They made my first mate die! It's all because of them."

Jollie chuckled and placed her hand on Athens' hand that was on the table. "Destiny has its way, so you don't have to blame it," she said as she gently rubbed his hand.

"Lady Mayfair!" Athen shouted her name. "Since I am the one who summoned her, I need to know if she is my mate," he inquired, sounding impatient like he usually does.

Lady Jollie drank from her goblet again and heaved a deep sigh. "She is your mate," she said, referring to the three of us. "You all have been together for years, so, normally, you have the same mate."

Athens hissed angrily. "I can't believe I would have to share my mate with him," Athens stated, pointing towards me.

"Whether you want it or not, Athens, that human is your mate and the only one who will break the curse affecting you all," lady Jollie informed us. "If you all don’t keep that human close to you, then I must tell you that your plans will fall through, and you won’t be able to break the curse, resulting in all your souls perishing!"

I frowned when I heard that. "My brothers are the ones affected by the curse, not me," I had to remind Lady Jollie in case she had forgotten. I am unlike my brothers, who go on a rampage by attacking Lycans every full moon.

I had control over my body, unlike them, whose soul stealers controlled.

Lady Jollie laughed briefly before rising from her chair. "I know the curse didn’t control you, but I want you to know that it chose to be that way because it was your destiny, my dear. "Whether you like it or not, if the curse is not broken before the blood moon, you all will go crazy and will be destroyed by the moon," she announced to us and stood up from where she sat, heading to where the candles were.

"Is there anything else I should know?"

"I think that is all you need to know for now!" She replied and turned her back on us.

"But," I said as I stood up and sighed deeply. "I am not the one affected by the curse. I am….."

"Believe me when I say that your destinies are intertwined, and no matter how you try to avoid it, you can’t." Lady Jollie responded, humming. As she breathed in and out, her hair turned black, and the candles moved to the beat of her breathing.

"I still need to know what I am supposed to do," I shouted and took a step toward her, but one of the servants who had entered the room stopped me from moving toward her.

"Lady Jollie is no longer with us because she has traveled far beyond," the servant said as she stood in front of me, her arms spread wide. "If there is anything you would like to know, then you can tell me."

I moved backward and sat on the chair again. I grabbed a cup filled with water from the table, drank it in one gulp, and then closed my eyes. My hands were balled into fists as I tried hard to control the burning anger I felt inside me. Athens, on the other hand, looked unconcerned as he continued drinking from his cup.

"We have to make sure that the human stays by our side so we can break the curse," Alaric stated after a moment of silence between us. "I hoped that we could work together as brothers and..."

"As brothers!" I yelled at him and slammed my hands on the table, making Devin jump to his feet and look worriedly at me. "You have no idea what I must sacrifice all these years because I have you both as my brothers!" I shouted at them.

"Really?" Athens scoffed. "You should be grateful that the curse didn’t affect you because we all fought in the battle, but you are the lucky one because you were not affected by the curse!" Athens yelled back at me and got up from his chair. "You are lucky to be the king, and the Lycans wouldn’t have to fear you!"

‘’Athens!’’ I shouted at him. "This is all your fault," I said, pointing the finger at him.

Athens laughed and slapped my finger away. "Point your finger at me again, and I will cut it away."

"Guys!" Alaric yelled and grabbed my hand, pulling me away from Athens. This is not the time to argue or fight!

I pushed his hands away and turned to face Devin. "Where are we all sleeping?"

"The servant will lead us to our rooms now," he answered.

I nodded in response and stood up, following the servant, who led us down another hallway until we reached the front of four doors. "This is for your beta, and this is for your highnesses," she said, pointing to the three other rooms. "If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know." I entered the first room and shut the door in her face before she could finish talking.

The room was dark except for the candle that was lit in the corner of the room. I found my way to the bed and lay on top of it, staring at the shadow of the candle in the ceiling. I had wanted to turn on the switch, but I was too mad at that moment to even turn on the light. I was fuming with anger about everything.

"Avoiding us is not going to solve this issue because our mate is the only way forward, and we can’t pretend that we are not in this together," Athens knocked on the door, trying to reason with me, but I was in no mood to even speak to him. But he didn’t give up and continued talking.

"The full moon is almost upon us, meaning we might go wild. I'll take advantage of that opportunity to see the human and devise a way for us to break the curse," he stated.

"Athens is correct," Alaric agreed. "We can make it that way, and even if we don’t find answers yet, we have to keep our mate by our side."

‘’mate!’’ I finally responded to them. "Maybe I don’t want to share a mate with both of you!" I replied from inside the room.

"You have no choice," Athens retorted. "I know you might probably tell me that I am responsible for what happened to us, but you need to know that no matter what happens, at the end of it all, we are still brothers!"

He was right, and that was one of the reasons why I was searching for a means to ensure that my brothers were freed from the curse. If we were not brothers, I might have ordered that they be killed a long time ago.

"As Lady Jollie said, I don't want to die," Alaric said, deep sighing. "I want to get to know our mate and..."

Athens cut him off and expressed how he was feeling."I want to hold her, kiss her, and make her feel my body."

I didn’t say a word and just let them say what was on their mind, even though I wanted our mate all to myself.

"What do you think we will do to ensure the humans stay?" Athens asked.

I yawned and shut my eyes. "The human has to stay no matter what, and even if I have to lock her up, I will do it," I suggested.

"Great!" Alaric laughed and hit the door, earning a growl from me. ‘’I am sorry. "I am just excited to see her again," he said.

Athens expressed his happiness by growling and scratching his claws on the door. "I summoned her here so that I could be the first to hold her in my arms,"

"If you both are done talking, then leave my room!" I shouted at them.

"What an attitude!" Alaric commented and laughed.

"We're leaving the tower the next day!" I informed them, and that ended the conversation. I heard their footsteps as they walked into their rooms, followed by the slamming of the doors.

I closed my eyes and heaved a deep sigh as I tried to keep the hazel eyes of our mate off my head, and even when I slept for a moment, her eyes were all I could see.
