Another Rumor

The next day, I woke up with morning sickness...again. I sat on the bathroom’s floor after vomiting. I am tired of this shit every single morning...but what can I do? There’s a human being growing inside my belly.

I gently massage my belly while starring at it.

“Don’t give too much pain to me. I’m dealing with this alone, so I expect you to cooperate.”

What am I even doing? I’m talking to my belly. I can’t still process everything completely but I know that I have to face reality because I have a fetus inside of me. Honestly, abortion came to my mind but thinking of killing an innocent child inside of me is killing me already.

I stood up and looked myself in the mirror. Damn! I look horrible! I am a mess! I barely slept last night. I lifted my shirt and looked at my belly through the mirror and realized that in a few months it will start growing forming a bump. How long can I hide this pregnancy?

A knock on my door got my attention. I pulled down my shirt before opening the door.

“Mom? Why are you here so early?”

“You’re awake early too.” I fully opened the door and let her inside my room. I closed it after she entered. “Are you okay? Why didn’t you tell me about the break up? You’ve been secretive towards me for the past months. I thought we’re allies?”

“Mom, I’m...” I thought of telling her about the pregnancy. After all, she’s the only one I could depend and trust in this situation. However, I know that’s she’s having a hard time too and I don’t want to burden her. “I’m fine. Everything is fine.” I lied. How long can I lie?

“It’s good to know you’re fine. I’m glad you ended things with Brian, because I never liked him anyway.” We both laughed. It became silent after.

“Mom, can I ask you a question?”

“Sure. Is something bothering you?”

“You are the president of SH holdings, but why do you let grandpa and dad push you back and pull you down? Did you never think of leaving dad after he cheated on you?”

Mom sat on my bed and pulled me beside her. She holds my hand as she answers.

“If letting them drag me down is the only way to secure your safety and place in this family, then I will gladly let them do it. I don’t want you to blame yourself on what I’m about to say, but everything I do is for you. Once you become a mother, nothing is about you anymore because it will always be about your kids. Every decision a mother does, it will affect her child. A mother’s priority is not about herself anymore, it’s about her child’s.”

I am speechless. Soon, I will become a mother. I grew up acting like a spoiled brat, rebelling and being reckless. Will I become a good mother? How can I protect my child when I can barely protect myself? I’m selfish but I have to be selfless. A bitch becoming a mother? How can that be possible?

I said nothing and just pulled mom for a hug. I feel so confused, empty, overwhelmed and worried.

--

A week later, I have to attend another event with my family. It’s a business ball and every business tycoon here in Casterdale will attend. Basically, it’s an event full of tension, pretensions and flowery words to make ‘good’ impressions. In easier words, it’s an event full of fake persons.

I went down on the living room after dressing up. My brothers are all there waiting. We started heading out the mansion when grandpa came. Before I could enter the van, dad approached me.

“Better behave yourself there, Savannah. The Wright’s will be there, apologize to Brian and get back with him.”

“Behaving myself is already a favor I’m doing for you. Asking me to get back with Brian is crossing the line, dad.” I walked away and went to my car. “I’ll be using my own car. I can’t stand being in the same car as you.”

“Get back here! People have to see us arriving all together!”

“Protect your image of a perfect family all you want, but I had enough of that bullshit. I’m just going to say that I had another schedule before the event, so don’t worry about people gossiping about our relationship.”

I was about to enter the driver’s seat but Cameron entered first.

“I’ll drive you there, miss.”

Why does he keep crossing the line?! Can’t he just leave me alone even just for once?

I took a deep breath and sighed in defeat before entering the backseat. I slammed the car door in anger but Cameron said nothing.

“This is the last time I’ll let you cross the line. Stop doing things I didn’t ask you to do. I’m sick of it.”

We left the mansion and proceed to the event’s place. The yearly business ball will be held in one of Z&H Empire’s hotel, the biggest company in Casterdale. Yearly, the hosts for the ball are different, we hosted it last year and now it’s Z&H’s turn.

Half an hour and we finally arrived at the venue. We have to walk down the red-carpet and pose for the press before entering the hotel. Cameron opened the car’s door and I stepped out. The rest of my family started stepping out of the van too. We walked all together on the red-carpet smiling for the media.

“Savannah, are the rumors true that you cheated on Brian Wright?”

“How true it is that you had an affair with someone while you were in a relationship with the Wright heir?”

The fucking what?! I had an affair? Where the hell are this news coming from?! Oh, is Brian or Bria behind this? I’m really not in the right situation to deal with these shits right now.

“I’m sorry but that is absolutely not true. If there’s someone who cheated it’s—” I’m busy dropping the facts but my dad interrupted me.

“There’s clearly a misunderstanding about the situation. My daughter might be at fault in their relationship but there is no cheating involved. That’s the farthest information we can give.”

I scoffed after hearing that. I was at fault? What does he even know?! Oh, right, he doesn’t care about me at all. He’s probably afraid that Wright’s would cut ties with us if I push a bad image on the heir.

We exit the red carpet and I smirked as I turn to my father.

“I thought you already reached the maximum amount of being a jerk, but I guess there’s more. I was at fault? Bullshit. But right, a jackass will side with a jackass.”

“Savannah! Watch your words! We are in a public place.”

“Suite yourself.” I walked away leaving them behind.
