Bagian 1

“…you said she wouldn’t come.”

Lin Yue stopped.

“I did,” Zhao Ming replied.

His voice was calm and unbothered.

Another voice followed, soft, almost amused.

“You’re getting careless.”

Lin Yue’s chest tightened.

She knew that voice.

She knew it, but her mind refused to accept it.

She took another step forward.

The corridor was quiet. The door ahead wasn’t fully closed, just slightly open, a thin line of light cutting through the dim hallway.

“…it doesn’t matter,” Zhao Ming said. “She won’t make a scene.”

A quiet laugh followed.

“She never does.”

Lin Yue’s fingers curled slowly at her side.

Her heartbeat wasn’t just fast, it was heavy.

Each beat landed deeper than the last.

Her mind wasn’t racing.

It was resisting.

Refusing to connect what she was hearing to what it meant.

But her body kept moving closer and closer

Until she stood right in front of the door.

For a second she didn’t touch it.

Didn’t breathe.

Her hand hovered in the air, just inches away.

Then she pushed it open.

The world didn’t stop, It shifted.

Zhao Ming stood too close.

And in front of him was Lin Xue.

Neither of them moved immediately.

As if they didn’t expect her.

As if they thought she really wouldn’t come.

Lin Yue didn’t speak.

Didn’t react.

Didn’t even step back.

Her gaze moved slowly from Zhao Ming to Lin Xue then back again.

She was just looking, not for answers but for something, anything that would make this make sense.

There was none.

Lin Xue recovered first.

Of course she did.

She straightened slightly, smoothing down her clothes like nothing had happened, like this was just another moment she had already prepared for.

Then she smiled.

“Well,” she said softly, “this is awkward.”

Zhao Ming didn’t deny it.

Didn’t explain.

He just looked at Lin Yue.

There was something unreadable in his eyes.

It was not guilt, not panic, something colder.

Lin Yue finally spoke.

“…how long?”

Her voice was quiet.

Like if she spoke any louder something inside her would break.

No one answered.

The silence was uncomfortable but not for them.

Lin Xue tilted her head slightly. “Does it matter?”

That statement hit her.

Lin Yue’s fingers tightened slightly.

Her nails pressed into her palm.

Zhao Ming finally moved.

“Lin Yue,” he said, his tone lower now. “This isn’t the place.”

“The place?”

Lin Yue let out a soft breath, it was almost a laugh but it was not.

“Then where?” she asked.

Zhao Ming didn’t respond immediately.

And that was enough.

Lin Yue nodded slowly.

Something inside her settled, like she realized that it was their decision without her knowing.

She looked at Lin Xue again.

This time longer, she didn't look at her in an angry way, she looked at her with a face of disappointment.

Then she turned and walked out.

She didn't shout or cry immediately, she held her tears back.

After she left Lin Xue let out a small laugh.

“See?” she said lightly. “I told you.”

Zhao Ming didn’t respond.

Lin Yue didn’t stop walking even when her vision blurred slightly.

Not even when her vision blurred slightly.

But this time people noticed.

A staff member standing by the wall glanced at her.

Then quickly looked away.

Another paused mid-step.

Two guests whispered quietly as she passed.

The door she had walked through was still open.

The light from inside spilled into the hallway. It was too bright.

Lin Yue kept walking, her steps didn’t change. Her expression didn’t change.

But something was wrong.

By the time she reached the end of the hallway, her hands felt cold.

By the time she stepped into the elevator, she couldn’t feel them at all.

The doors closed and there was no one watching.

Her reflection stared back at her. It was calm and the same but her eyes were not.

The elevator moved down slowly.

Her phone vibrated.

She didn’t react immediately.

It vibrated again.

And again.

Finally, she looked down.

The message was still there.

From Zhao Ming.

“Come to the hotel. I have something for you.”

Lin Yue stared at it.

Her fingers tightened slowly around the phone.

Because now, she understood that message was never meant for her.
