Chapter Fifty

When Mr. Allen left Christopher's house, he was feeling angry and bloodthirsty at the same time. He didn't want to resort to being cruel. Here he was feeling bad about the way he had treated his son but who knew his son wasn't as ignorant as he pretended to be. If he had known this would happen, he could have just ended him when he had the chance. He drove out of his son's house and after driving for a while, he asked his driver to get out, and he drove off leaving him behind. While he was driving, his mind was running in circles. He was thinking of what and how or who helped Christopher that he was able to find things that he had buried. Things that was impossible to be found out. He had made sure to cover his tracks. He had to park his car by the side of the road and shut his eyes. As he sat there with his eyes closed, memories began to flood in. Memories of how it all began.

Years ago...

Allen was in his early twenties and was hustling like every Nigerian youth. On this particular Friday, he decided to go clubbing with a few of his guys from the hood. They decided to rock a club in the Lekki area of Lagos state and if they get lucky, they could meet some rich babes there and probably hit the jackpot. He and his friends got to the club and took a table for themselves. They had not been there for long when this beautiful girl and her friends walked in. From their hair down to their feet, one would know that they have been doused In wealth. Among them were three guys. They were a group of eight people. Five ladies and three guys and they are obviously In their early twenties as well. Allen and his friends got talking instantly. "See what money is doing to us, just look at the way they are dressed. From head to toe, everything is designers!" One of his friends complained.

"You all should stop staring at everyone that walks in. I thought we are here to have fun as well." Allen said.

"We are here to have fun but, not too much. Don't forget that if we dare to overspend then, we will walk all the way to Oshodi tomorrow morning." Another of his friends added.

"Wait ooo... Does that mean we will just sit here and be looking at everybody that walks in or out of this place?" Allen asked with irritation.

"Please, Allen. Don't start with this your attitude again abeg. We will make do with the little money we have and if we are lucky one of these rich girls will smile on us." The one who hadn't spoken since they got there said.

"Ok na. You guys should sit there but as for me, I will just walk around. We'll meet here when it's 5 am." Allen said and walked away from his friends.

"What's wrong with him. This is not the first time he will abandon us like this oooo..." The first one complained as Allen walked away from their table.

Allen had just walked to the bar when someone approached him. "Hi!"

He turned to look at the person and it happened to be one of the people that walked in before he left his friends. "Hi," he answered nonchalantly.

"Can I join you?" The lady who had walked up to him asked.

"Sure," be answered with a smile. "But, what about your friends? Won't they get offended that you abandoned them?"

"I could say the same to you. You also walked away from your friends." The lady who had walked up to him said.

"I just needed a ME time that's all," Allen said.

"That means I am intruding on your ME time. Right?" She asked him with a seductive smile.

"It's ok. I could use the company of a beautiful, lady like yourself." He quickly answered.

"Ok, so my name is Bridget. Bridget Olagoke." She introduced herself.

"Oh, forgive my manners," Allen said taking the hand she offered. "I am Allen, Allen mike." He said.

"Ok, Mike," Bridget said as they shook hands. She noticed him among his friends immediately she walked into the club. She wasn't a shy person but, she didn't want to walk to him among his friends so she was very happy when she saw him walking away from them. She quickly excused herself and approached him. "What do you drink? Let me buy you a glass." She offered.

"It's ok, I can pay for my own drinks. I wouldn't want to cheat a lady." Allen answered.

"Come on Mike!! I offered to do it. You see my friends over there," she asked and pointed at the table where her friends were sitting. Allen looked over and nodded his head. "I am paying for all they will order tonight. So adding yours won't do any harm." She added.

Allen did a flip in his heart and thought to himself that he had managed to catch the big fish among them but said without a change of emotion on his face. "Are you celebrating something?" He asked.

"Truthfully, yes. I turned 20 a few days ago so I just got access to my inheritance." She explained.

'Wow!!' Allen said in his heart but what came out of his mouth was, "Is that why you are buying them drinks? That's a waste of resources you know. The money you are to spend on drinks tonight could go a long way in the life of some of us here."

"What are you talking about?" She asked with a laugh. "No matter the amount I spend tonight, it won't make a difference. You know what??" She asked and stood up.

"What?" Allen asked.

"Let's take your friends to my friends. After today, we can get to know each other better." She said and pulled Allen to his friends. "Hi, guys!" She greeted them when they got to Allen's friends.

"Hi," they all mumbled looking from Allen to the girl who pulled him to them. And they immediately recognized her as the lady who had walked in his her friends some minutes ago.

"Sorry to come this way but, I was telling your friend over here that, I want you guys to join my friends and I but he doesn't want to," Bridget said. "What do you guys think?" She asked them.

Allen's friends saw the opportunity and they all took it. She took them to her friends and they all sat down together. Among her friends was Coker and he was looking at Allen all through the night with anger. Allen noticed how Coker was looking at him and he asked Bridget why but, she brushed it off as nothing.

That night, Allen and Bridget ended up spending the night together. The next morning, before they separated. They exchanged numbers. One could say that Bridget fell in love immediately but Allen was only in for the fun and what he will stand to gain. After a few weeks, Coker visited Allen and made a deal with him. He told Allen that Bridget was worth millions of dollars and they could take out of it if he played his cards right. Allen thought about it and decided to do it. It was an opportunity out of poverty so he started to court Bridget. In less than six months, they got married but under sine conditions. He was made to sign things that would bind them together for life but he will be having access to unlimited wealth. After their marriage, Bridget gave him access to her wealth. They were married for four years and they didn't have a child which was all Allen's doing. He was with her for the money not because he loved her and wanted a family with her. He even got her drugged and made a doctor give her injections so that she wouldn't get pregnant. He was surprised when she got pregnant in their fifth year of marriage. He was careless and didn't know when she had found out what he was doing to her. All this while, he had been giving Coker money and helping him at all times. When she got pregnant, things started to change. She restricted his access to some funds and changed her will without his knowledge. They started to have fights because she found out he was having an affair with her friend. Before she gave birth, she had willed it that, when her child gets married, half her wealth be given to the partner and the other half to her child.
