Chapter Sixty Nine

Rose was surprised that Christopher would call her. She collected the phone and looked at the screen. What she saw was 'heartbeat' she was very surprised because she doesn't remember taking down his number talk more of saving it. How then did his phone number get into her phone? She took the phone from Princess and said, "hello?"

"Hey! I was calling to check on you two and to let you know that I am fine!" Christopher said from the other end.

"Thank God you are okay! Where are you now!?" Rose asked.

"I'll be home very soon! I want you to put your mind at ease. Okay!?" Christopher said.

"Now that I know you are fine, my mind is at ease. Do you know what we were being followed?" Rose asked. Although she was still confused about how Christopher's phone number got into her phone, she was relieved that he is fine and he took the initiative to call her. While they were on call, she had walked to her room and Princess had gone back into her own room.

"Don't worry, I will tell you everything when I get back. Just relax and wait for me. Okay?" Christopher said to her.

"Ok! I have heard you.!" She answered.

"Where are you and what are you doing," Christopher asked her. He didn't want to end the call so, he was looking for anything that they could be talking about.

"Well, I just got to the bedroom. I want to take a bath before going back downstairs." Rose answered.

"Hmmm, take a bath...." Christopher said.

"What!? Why is sounding strange from your mouth?" Rose asked with a smile.

"Nothing ooo! Can't I just repeat what you said?" He asked her.

"Well, it depends on how you repeat it. Oh, before I forget! How did you get my number and how did yours get on my phone?" Rose asked.

"That shouldn't surprise you na!! You should have guessed that it was my doing. Most times, you are always without your phone so, I took the initiative to save my number on your phone.!" Christopher explained.

"Hmm, you should have told me. I was so worried and I wanted to call you but then, I remembered that I don't have your number. I even asked Mrs. Rita and she refused.!" Rose complained.

"That's your fault tho... You have a phone but you hardly check it. If only you had checked, you would have seen it because I added it to your favorites and emergency contact.!" Christopher explained.

"Thank you! Anyways, I need to freshen up right now. We'll see each other when you get home!" Rose said.

"Ok, but before you hang up, I'd like you to consider something!" Christopher said.

"Okay... What's that?" Rose asked him.

"I think it's time we get Princess a phone. She needs it now more than ever. I know we have agreed on something but, let's give her a phone and then when she starts working you can tell her there is no pay.!" Christopher suggested.

"But, ..."

"Just look at it in this way, what if she is the only one in the car today or what if she is in school and is walking with her friends and something strange happens? How will she call for help? Won't you feel better if she had a way to communicate with you? I know she would always be followed by more than 10 guards but we need to make sure it's easy for her to call for help!" Christopher said to Rose before she would disagree.

"That's true! You are right. With that phone, she will be able to call us at any time. Okay! Get her one on your way home but, make sure you don't get her a phone that is too flashy! She is still a child." Rose said after hearing Christopher's opinion.

"I knew you would understand!! She will be so happy when we give it to her! I can't wait to get home and see her expression when I hand it over to her!" Christopher said with excitement.

Rose couldn't help the smile that spread across her face at his excitement. "With the way you are sounding eh!! It's like you have gotten the phone already!" She said.

Christopher laughed when she said that. "No, I haven't gotten the phone but, I am on my way to get it. I called Bolu your assistant and asked her to bring me one from the mall. I will meet her on the way and bring it home... I just did it with the belief that you will accept!" He said with a smile.

"Ok, that's good! We'll give it to her as a surprise after dinner. Make sure she doesn't see it when you get back!" Rose said. She was already buying into the excitement. She was even trying to picture what Princess's expression will look like when they hand the phone to her. "She would be so surprised and happy!" Rose added.

"Yes! She might even think we are trying to play a trick on her. Oh, let me call you back, please! Uzo is calling me right now!" Christopher said.

"Okay, no problem!" Rose said and ended the call before he could respond.

Christopher took his working phone and answered Uzo's call. "Hey bro, what's up!"

"Things are hard here ooo... It's like the person who was asking about Rose has disappeared off the face of this earth! I have not been able to find any clue since I got here!" Uzo said.

"That's strange. If the person had disappeared then it means we are dealing with someone who knows what they are doing! What kind of question was the person asking?" Christopher asked Uzo.

"Well, it's strange. The person asked them the same question and it's not something bad. He asked them what kind of a person Rose was as a boss!" Uzo said. "Doesn't it sound strange? He asked them questions like if they were allowed to choose a new boss, would they choose Rose?" Uzo said.

"Hmmm, that's really strange! Why would somebody be going about asking such questions?" Christopher thought out loud.

"That's why I said it's strange! The questions that were asked were like the person was trying to know the kind of person Rose is as a person, a boss, and a mother! Who could be asking for such a thing!?" Uzo explained.

"That's very strange. Why would someone be looking for her all of a sudden? It's strange how someone will be going about asking about her now! Why now?" Christopher wondered.

"I will still try my best to get some clues. I think this is the time we need Ray the most. When will he get to Nigeria?" Uzo asked

"He should be here before the week runs out. Once he arrives, we will hand this issue to him. If there is anybody who can trace this unknown man, it's him.!" Christopher said. "That aside, can you believe my father tried to have me killed?"

"What!!? He seriously made a move?? That man is wicked oooo! How can a father try to kill his son because of property?" Uzo exclaimed.

"That's the type of father that I was unluckily given to. I was attacked today.! On my way home with Rose and Princess!" Christopher said with a little bit of regret. He was thinking his father would change his mind about having him killed but, who would have thought that he would still do it.

"Kai!!! That man is evil!! What do you plan to do now!?" Uzo asked.

"I will pay him a visit but, with a gift. I wanted to let him be but he has stepped on my tail. My father will see what I can do very soon! I will show him that, I am my father's son as well as my mother's. He will regret the decision he made!" Christopher said.

"Hmmm, meself don dey fear like this! I would never pray to be in your bad book in this life oooh!" Uzo said. "Anyways, I watched what happened this morning at the mall and I swear!! I too like that your wife! She is very quiet but she knows how to put people where they belong!" He added excitedly.

"Who do you like? My wife? E be like say you dey mad!! What about your crush!!? See... If you don't have anything better to say or do then, go and try to woo the girl you like! " Christopher fired at him. "Infact eh, get off my phone!! You like my wife ko, you like my wife ni!!" He said. Before he could hand up the call, he heard Uzo's laughter from the other end.
