AURORA

It was past midnight, and I was still waiting for Rowan in my room. He’d told me to come to him tonight, but it was already one in the morning, and he still hadn’t returned.

I gazed out the window, the woods were dark and silent, yet they whispered of freedom — freedom from the insults, the pain, the hollow ache of loving a man who couldn’t love me back.

If I could only find the courage to cross that border, I would be free.

The door burst open, making me jump. Rowan stumbled in, the scent of alcohol heavy around him.

“You’re still awake,” he muttered, collapsing on my bed without a glance in my direction.

I turned off the lamp and lay beside him, pretending to sleep. It had always been this way — he only reached for me when drunk, and every morning he left before sunrise, leaving me emptier than before.

Then I felt movement behind me. His hand brushed my waist, tentative at first, then firmer, drawing me close. My heart betrayed me, beating faster under his touch.

“You smell so good,” he murmured, his breath warm against my neck.

The mate bond pulsed through me — cruel, relentless.

He pressed closer, his voice low and broken. “Viv…”

My heart froze. He thinks I’m her.

I wanted to push him away, but my body wouldn’t obey. The heat of his skin, the desperate weight of his loneliness, made me falter.

He cupped my face, his thumb trembling as it traced my jaw. For the first time in years, there was something almost human in his eyes — confusion, pain, need.

When his lips brushed mine, the world fell away. The kiss was rough, searching, but beneath it I felt a flicker of something I hadn’t felt in a long time — tenderness.

He whispered against my lips, “Don’t move… please.”

I didn’t. I couldn’t.

“Goddess, you are so beautiful!” my heart warmed. Before I knew it, his warm lips connected with mine, kissing me passionately. He was so gentle, his touch burned, and my privates throbbed even more, itching with desire.

Rowan made me feel like a woman that night, every part of my body he touched awakened, my body bent to his will, responded to his every touch. He made love to me until early hours of the morning, when he gentle pulled me into his arms whispering. “You must be tired now, my love. I am sorry for tiring you out like this.”

A smile formed on my lips as I closed my eyes relaxing on his chest. Enveloped by his scent and feeling safe in his arms. It wasn’t hard to fall asleep.

*****

I woke to a splash of icy water, gasping as Laura stood over me, bucket in hand. “You call yourself a Luna? Sleeping until noon while the pack starves?”

“Mom…”

“Mom?” she sneered. “Do I look like your mother?”

I glanced at the empty space beside me, Rowan was gone. Sunlight streamed through the window. Despite the ache in my body, a smile tugged at my lips. He had held me, whispered to me.

Nothing could ruin that. Not even her.

I showered, humming softly. Jess, my wolf, scoffed.

“He called you Vivian, Aurora. Wake up. Leave him.”

“Not now, Jess,” I whispered. I didn’t want the truth, not yet.

I got done and went into the kitchen and made food for my mother-in-law. She sat quietly on the kitchen counter watching me. that was a first for her, she always found fault in everything I did. but I appreciated the silence.

When I got done, I placed everything in front of her. she didn’t say anything and started eating. I made myself a cup of coffee and suddenly she spoke. “Aurora.” Her tone was oddly calm.

“Mom?” I asked cautiously.

“Do you know how long he showered this morning, the look of disgust when he got out of your room?” she shook her head.

I gripped the counter, refusing to meet her eyes.

“It’s because he hates you,” she said softly, almost with pity. “He showered for nearly an hour this morning. Said you make him sick. Even the Goddess hasn’t given you a child, she knows you don’t belong here.”

My throat burned. I forced myself to breathe.

Jess’s voice was steady in my mind. “Breathe, Aurora. Don’t break for them.”

I closed my eyes breathing in and out as she instructed. When I felt better, I opened my eyes only to find my mother-in-law looking at me. she shook her head. “Your family’s event is coming up,” she said coldly. “I won’t go. I won’t sit there listening to gossip about how pathetic our Luna is.”

She left, and I gathered the dishes quietly.

*****

A month had passed, and Rowan still hadn’t spoken to me.

He must have known it was me that night — at first he’d called me by her name, but once the haze of drink had faded, he knew.

He just hated himself for giving in, and I told myself his anger wasn’t at me, but at his own weakness.

Still, his silence cut deeper than ever. I stayed, caring for him, finding meaning in his recovery even as his heart remained frozen.

After returning to the pack at eighteen, I fell for Rowan at first sight. It wasn’t for any other reason—just that when everyone laughed at me as a wild country girl, he stood up and spoke to me. He even taught me some fighting techniques.

I knew he was more suited for Vivian, yet I couldn’t help the feelings that grew in my heart. That’s why, when Rowan was injured, I threw myself into healing him with everything I had ever learned, without hesitation.

Those rare nights he came to me kept the smallest spark of hope alive. I told myself that maybe, someday, he’d soften.

But would that day ever come? I wasn’t sure anymore.

My phone rang, snapping me out of my thoughts. It was Beta Jayson.

“Luna,” his voice was tight, urgent. “Alpha Rowan’s been injured. He needs a blood transfusion, urgently.”

The phone slipped from my hand. My heart stopped. What could have happened? He just left!

Rowan’s body had only just recovered this year — I couldn’t stand by and watch him get hurt again.

I snapped out of it, “Rowan…” I stood, grabbed my bag and my phone on the floor.

Terrified, I rushed to the hospital, my heart pounding in my chest imagining the worst. “Please Goddess, let him be okay.”

AURORA A faint smile covered my lips, at long last. She had returned. The smile then turn into a painful whimper. If they had looked at me, they would have seen her my face and the blood at the corner of my mouth. Not only that, but they had also seen me vomiting blood and yet, no one cared. No one cared to call the doctor, they only heard that their beloved Vivian was back and to hell with me and rushed out to welcome her. To hell with the daughter who was dying on the living room floor. My resentment for them grew. I stared at the main door, they had their backs on me, I could hear my mother’s cries. “My darling daughter, where have you been, what happened to you. Screw that, you are back and safe. Oh, my darling Vivian.”My father cooing softly on the side. “My love, don’t cry now, she is back, and she is safe. No need to cry anymore.” I wanted to laugh but I was too weak. “Sis… oh, how I missed you. Nothing was the same after you were gone.” That was my brother Grayson. What shoc

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 9

AURORAWhen I woke up, I was alone in the packhouse. Well, not completely alone but Rowan and his mother had gone to my family home for the family dinner. I was shocked when the omega told me that. Rowan had never bothered to go to my family dinner since we got married. In fact, the man had never set foot in my home since Vivian disappeared. Now, you can imagine how shocked I was to hear that he actually went. I thought he was just playing with me when he told me to ready so we could go together.I was happy he went though, this year, he could be the one to answer their questions, to tell them why we didn’t have an heir yet. But who was I fooling? My parents would never ask him questions, in their eyes, their alpha was perfect, and I was the problem. When I saw it was getting late, I made myself food and ate then went back to bed. “Aurora, this poison is dangerous, why don’t we go to the forest to get the herb. We won’t survive long if we don’t get it.” I wished I could, but I knew we

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 8

ROWANI caught her before she fell on the ground, I didn’t know what was wrong with her and concerned me greatly. I looked at her feet and there was dried blood. I inspected her, but she was not injured anywhere. Was she really vomiting blood? My own blood ran cold in my veins, what was wrong with her. “Call the doctor, tell her to come to Aurora’s room, now!” I ordered, scooping her up and rushing out of the dungeon with her going to the packhouse.I was taking the stairs two at a time rushing to get to her room quicker. Just as I laid her on the bed Dr Marting walked in. “Check on her, she vomited blood, something is wrong.” He didn’t say a word and just started checking on her.He started by checking her blood pressure. “I am not happy with her blood pressure; it is too high.” But she didn’t look like she had a fever. Even if she did, that wouldn’t cause her to vomit blood. The doctor was about to undress her when she suddenly woke up.“What the hell are you doing?” she said glarin

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 7

AURORAIt had been three days since Rowan locked me up. He hadn’t come to see me once. He’d heard that I wasn’t well, yet he didn’t bother to check on me. He must have thought I was pretending again — as usual.I didn’t even know when Rowan had started believing I was a liar. What was I saying? Of course, it was because of her — Vivian. That damned woman ruined my life; I couldn’t wait for the day Rowan found out that she was alive. That she left him.Maybe then my name would be cleared but I didn’t know what would become of my baby then. I suddenly felt lightheaded, black dots started dancing in my vision and before I knew it, I was coughing up blood.I couldn’t stop it. It just kept coming. “Oh, dear Goddess! Call the alpha!” I could hear one of the warriors guarding me panicking and yelling at the other one. This whole thing started with me feeling my body growing heavier and heavier. I thought it was because she was pregnant. “This is bad. The poison inside you has erupted!”M

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 6

ROWAN’s POVI didn’t know what to do for that woman to stop what she has been doing. Years had passed since Vivian disappeared, since she killed her. She had me marry her, she was my wife. Why couldn’t she just stay quietly by my side and not cause trouble? Was she that jealous and threatened by Vivian that even in her death she still couldn’t change? Aurora was not always like that. She was good when she came back, we got close, and we were friends. She was after all, Vivians’s sister. They might have not been biological sisters, but Vivian loved her like she was. I loved her too as her sister. But then she did something to Vivian which I still didn’t understand why she could do something like that. She didn’t deserve to be my wife, but father forced me to marry her so she could heal me. I had imprisoned her after Vivian disappeared. When father forced me to marry her, I went to the dungeon, only for my wolf to go crazy claiming she was our mate. I couldn’t believe how the Moon God

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 5

AURORAYes, I had always known that Vivian wasn’t dead at all! I had learned this truth years ago, during one of Vivian’s death anniversaries. I had been crying all night, she might have been cruel to me but she was still the one who kept my parents’ company while I was kidnapped and later lost my memory. Her death saddened me and broke my parent’s hearts. That was when Jess, my wolf told me. “Vivian is not dead.” had frozen for a moment. Wiped my tears and like a stupid human I asked. “What did you say?” Jess had repeated calmly, “Vivian is alive.” I shook my head in denial “That’s impossible! Even if she were alive, how would you know?” Jess refused to tell me. Still stubborn, I didn’t want to just let it go and it was hard to believe. So, I demanded, “How do you know this?”But my wolf only replied, “Some truths cannot be spoken. The threads of fate must remain hidden.”But my instincts told me she was right. My wolf, Jessie, never makes mistakes — everything she predict
