AURORA

My wolf scoffed, “We’d be better off with him dead.”

Her words tore through me like a knife. Wolves were the last to give up on their mates, but Jess had. Rowan had pushed her, pushed us, too far. The pain, the humiliation, the rejection… it had finally broken even the bond between souls.

Still, I needed to know what had happened to him. I wanted to leave knowing I had done my part — that I wasn’t walking away as the heartless one.

“Doctor?” I called softly when I entered the infirmary.

He looked up at me coldly. No one respected me as Luna anymore. Why would they? Their Alpha didn’t, they merely followed his lead.

“The Alpha requires four hundred ccs of blood,” the doctor said flatly.

I froze. That was a dangerous amount. He must have been gravely injured.

My stomach twisted again, nausea rising, it had been happening a lot lately, and I could barely find the strength to get through the day. I hadn’t had time to see a doctor. And now, Rowan needed me. I had to be strong. I would give him my blood.

“I’ll do it,” I said quietly. “Take as much as he needs.”

Even if I had given up on us, I couldn’t turn my back when he was hurt.

Afterwards, I felt faint, my vision swimming. Beta Jayson thanked me warmly, his expression kind.

“Our Luna is so devoted to Alpha Rowan. You’ve taken care of him with such loyalty. The Alpha is lucky to have you.”

Lucky? I almost laughed. Still, I managed a smile. “He’s, my mate. I would do anything for him.”

Jayson’s gaze faltered, discomfort flashing in his eyes. That should’ve been my first warning.

“Can I see him?” I asked hopefully.

Both he and Gamma exchanged a look. “Hmm, no,” Jayson scratched the back of his neck. “The doctor says he’s still unconscious. He needs to stabilize.”

I nodded, relieved he wasn’t dying, but disappointed. My body was trembling from blood loss as I turned to leave.

And then I heard it.

Rowan’s voice.

It came from the next ward, low but unmistakable. I froze. My heart raced. He’s awake?

I reached for the door, ready to run to him, but another voice stopped me cold.

“You really did it,” said by Jayson, “One word from you, and that woman gave away four hundred ccs of blood without hesitation. Aren’t you afraid she’ll know the truth?”

My breath hitched.

Rowan’s mocking laugh followed.

“She’ll never leave me. Aurora would give me anything I ask for. She’s bound to me, whether I want her or not. I win the bet!”

My hand fell from the door handle. My entire body went numb.

Each word was a blade, twisting deep into my chest.

A Bet?

I had nearly fainted giving him that blood. I had done it out of love, or what remained of it. And all the while, he had been laughing about my devotion like it was some pathetic joke.

You were being foolish to think he’d ever change, Jess whispered bitterly. Now do you see? It’s time to leave.

I stood there until my legs could no longer hold me. Something inside me, something that had held on for far too long, cracked.

When I walked out of that hospital, I wasn’t the same woman who had walked in.

That night, when Rowan came home, I no longer looked at him with longing. I didn’t cook him dinner with care or add healing herbs to his food. I told an omega to feed him and threw away the meal I’d made earlier.

“Where’s my dinner?” he looked well for someone who was hospitalized a few hours ago.

I looked at him remembering the cruel things he had said about me at the hospital. For the first time, my gaze wasn’t warm and loving. Instead of cooking for him myself, as I always did, carefully adding herbs to aid his recovery, I ordered an omega to prepare his meal. I took the food I kept for him and threw it in the trash.

Rowan having noticed my indifference, he frowned.

He frowned. “Don’t be petty. I was sick because it’s Vivian’s death anniversary. You know how I get that day.”

I bit back a laugh. So that was his excuse. Always Vivian. The ghost between us.

He would never stop loving her. And I — I would no longer waste my tears on him.

Rumor had it he was searching for a way to bring her back. They said that with the Wolf Mother’s bone and the heart’s blood of a she-wolf, one could resurrect the dead. I had overheard his beta and gamma whispering about it, their voices heavy with unease.

The thought made my skin crawl.

Rowan caught the faint scoff that escaped me. His eyes darkened.

“What kind of expression is that?” he snapped, crossing the room in two strides. “Are you daring to disrespect Vivian?”

Before I could speak, his hand wrapped around my throat, slamming me against the wall.

The breath fled my lungs. My vision darkened.

“Rowan…” I choked out, my voice barely a whisper. “Please… stop.”

I had not been well these past days. Since donating blood, my body had been weak and exhausted. Suddenly, the world spun around me.

My vision blurred and I collapsed to the ground, gasping.

Rowan sneered.

“Still pretending? You’ll do anything for attention.”

I reached out my trembling hand.

 “No…Rowan, help me…”

He shoved his hands in his packets glaring at me. Just then, his phone rang. He fished it out of his pocket and answered. Listened for a moment, then said briskly:

“What? The Wolf Mother’s bone has been found? I’ll be right there.”

He grabbed his coat, his silhouette blurring before my eyes.

“You can drop the act now,” he said with a cruel chuckle, then walked out.

The door slammed shut.

The last thing I saw before the darkness took me was the faint red smear of blood on my fingertips.

******

When I woke, the sterile scent of disinfectant filled my lungs. The world was bright white and painfully quiet. I blinked until the blur sharpened into shapes — a hospital room.

Dr. Marlene entered, clipboard in hand, her expression strangely gentle. “Luna,” she said softly, “congratulations.”

I blinked at her, confused. “For what?”

Her smile deepened. “You’re pregnant.”

My breath caught.

 Pregnant?!

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 10

AURORA A faint smile covered my lips, at long last. She had returned. The smile then turn into a painful whimper. If they had looked at me, they would have seen her my face and the blood at the corner of my mouth. Not only that, but they had also seen me vomiting blood and yet, no one cared. No one cared to call the doctor, they only heard that their beloved Vivian was back and to hell with me and rushed out to welcome her. To hell with the daughter who was dying on the living room floor. My resentment for them grew. I stared at the main door, they had their backs on me, I could hear my mother’s cries. “My darling daughter, where have you been, what happened to you. Screw that, you are back and safe. Oh, my darling Vivian.”My father cooing softly on the side. “My love, don’t cry now, she is back, and she is safe. No need to cry anymore.” I wanted to laugh but I was too weak. “Sis… oh, how I missed you. Nothing was the same after you were gone.” That was my brother Grayson. What shoc

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 9

AURORAWhen I woke up, I was alone in the packhouse. Well, not completely alone but Rowan and his mother had gone to my family home for the family dinner. I was shocked when the omega told me that. Rowan had never bothered to go to my family dinner since we got married. In fact, the man had never set foot in my home since Vivian disappeared. Now, you can imagine how shocked I was to hear that he actually went. I thought he was just playing with me when he told me to ready so we could go together.I was happy he went though, this year, he could be the one to answer their questions, to tell them why we didn’t have an heir yet. But who was I fooling? My parents would never ask him questions, in their eyes, their alpha was perfect, and I was the problem. When I saw it was getting late, I made myself food and ate then went back to bed. “Aurora, this poison is dangerous, why don’t we go to the forest to get the herb. We won’t survive long if we don’t get it.” I wished I could, but I knew we

ROWANI caught her before she fell on the ground, I didn’t know what was wrong with her and concerned me greatly. I looked at her feet and there was dried blood. I inspected her, but she was not injured anywhere. Was she really vomiting blood? My own blood ran cold in my veins, what was wrong with her. “Call the doctor, tell her to come to Aurora’s room, now!” I ordered, scooping her up and rushing out of the dungeon with her going to the packhouse.I was taking the stairs two at a time rushing to get to her room quicker. Just as I laid her on the bed Dr Marting walked in. “Check on her, she vomited blood, something is wrong.” He didn’t say a word and just started checking on her.He started by checking her blood pressure. “I am not happy with her blood pressure; it is too high.” But she didn’t look like she had a fever. Even if she did, that wouldn’t cause her to vomit blood. The doctor was about to undress her when she suddenly woke up.“What the hell are you doing?” she said glarin

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 7

AURORAIt had been three days since Rowan locked me up. He hadn’t come to see me once. He’d heard that I wasn’t well, yet he didn’t bother to check on me. He must have thought I was pretending again — as usual.I didn’t even know when Rowan had started believing I was a liar. What was I saying? Of course, it was because of her — Vivian. That damned woman ruined my life; I couldn’t wait for the day Rowan found out that she was alive. That she left him.Maybe then my name would be cleared but I didn’t know what would become of my baby then. I suddenly felt lightheaded, black dots started dancing in my vision and before I knew it, I was coughing up blood.I couldn’t stop it. It just kept coming. “Oh, dear Goddess! Call the alpha!” I could hear one of the warriors guarding me panicking and yelling at the other one. This whole thing started with me feeling my body growing heavier and heavier. I thought it was because she was pregnant. “This is bad. The poison inside you has erupted!”M

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 6

ROWAN’s POVI didn’t know what to do for that woman to stop what she has been doing. Years had passed since Vivian disappeared, since she killed her. She had me marry her, she was my wife. Why couldn’t she just stay quietly by my side and not cause trouble? Was she that jealous and threatened by Vivian that even in her death she still couldn’t change? Aurora was not always like that. She was good when she came back, we got close, and we were friends. She was after all, Vivians’s sister. They might have not been biological sisters, but Vivian loved her like she was. I loved her too as her sister. But then she did something to Vivian which I still didn’t understand why she could do something like that. She didn’t deserve to be my wife, but father forced me to marry her so she could heal me. I had imprisoned her after Vivian disappeared. When father forced me to marry her, I went to the dungeon, only for my wolf to go crazy claiming she was our mate. I couldn’t believe how the Moon God

  • I Died as His Luna, He Went Mad   CHAPTER 5

AURORAYes, I had always known that Vivian wasn’t dead at all! I had learned this truth years ago, during one of Vivian’s death anniversaries. I had been crying all night, she might have been cruel to me but she was still the one who kept my parents’ company while I was kidnapped and later lost my memory. Her death saddened me and broke my parent’s hearts. That was when Jess, my wolf told me. “Vivian is not dead.” had frozen for a moment. Wiped my tears and like a stupid human I asked. “What did you say?” Jess had repeated calmly, “Vivian is alive.” I shook my head in denial “That’s impossible! Even if she were alive, how would you know?” Jess refused to tell me. Still stubborn, I didn’t want to just let it go and it was hard to believe. So, I demanded, “How do you know this?”But my wolf only replied, “Some truths cannot be spoken. The threads of fate must remain hidden.”But my instincts told me she was right. My wolf, Jessie, never makes mistakes — everything she predict
