~Jacqueline’s POV~

Daisy held the glass in her hand and swirled the juice in it. She slowly drank it until it finished. I watched her while holding my glass. I raised the glass to my mouth and took a sip out of it. The boys had finished theirs as well as the biscuits they were given.

Unlike my drink and every others’, Daisy had added a shot of tequila to hers. She didn’t want to create a bad impression for her sons. The twins sat tiredly on the chair, swinging their legs back and forth. I traced the mouth of the glass idly with my finger.

“Jackie!”

I raised my head and glanced at Daisy. I smiled faintly.

“How many children do you and Rex want to have?” She asked playfully.

Children? For him? I can’t see myself letting him kiss me not to talk of carrying his child.

“Well, we—.” I mumbled, avoiding eye contact.

“Uncle Rex.” Michael said happily.

I turned to the side and saw him. He had his eyes on his phone. He had two boutique bags in the other hand. He looked away from the screen and glanced at everyone. He hummed and had his gaze on me.

“You’re back early.” Daisy said jovially.

“I had nothing useful to do at the company today.” He replied plainly, still looking at me.

Our eyes met and I looked away immediately. I stood up without making eye contact.

“I will-will go and keep—.” I mumbled.

“The maids will do that.” He said flatly.

I flashed a glance at him. Phew! He wasn’t looking at me anymore.

“Shouldn’t you guys be on your way? Alex will be back soon and wouldn’t like it you drive late.” He noted.

“You’ve a point. I don’t want him to get upset.” She said as she stood on her feet.

“But we’ve been waiting for Uncle Rex to come back. Can’t we stay a little longer?” Evans asked childishly.

“Can we, Mum?” Michael supported.

Daisy shook her head. The twins sighed and wore a sad look.

“But you will pay us a visit. Won’t you, Jackie?” She suggested.

Me? How did I get drag into this? I looked at Rex, seeing his approval. He acted as if he didn’t hear a thing.

“Jackie?” She called my attention.

I bit my lips and stayed mute.

“It’s under probability.” He replied coolly.

“Okay.” She said calmly,

“It was nice to meet you, Jackie.”

I reciprocated in a nod. The twins waved goodbye at him and purposely ignored me. Was I actually that invisible? One of the bodyguards held the door open for them and closed when they left completely.

Rex heaved and looked at me. I glanced at the bags he was holding.

“These are for you.” He said plainly, holding them out.

I glanced at him and the bags he held out.

“What is in it?” I asked curiously.

“Why don’t you see for yourself and stop asking me dumb questions?” He replied sarcastically.

“You still haven’t answered my question.” I said firmly, unsure if I was intimidated or tired of this drama.

Rex groaned annoyingly and dropped the bag angrily on the floor. It was obvious he was pissed off.

“I didn’t waste most of my time trying to get your clothes and some things you would need.” He retorted, raising his voice at me.

“I didn’t ask you to get me anything. All I want is to go back to my flat and live my life the way it has always been—away from you.” I shot back.

Rex’s facial expression became colder. He raked his fingers through his hair and said nothing. Now, I was beginning to regret the outburst.

“If you don’t like, you can return them to the boutique yourself. Let me see how that works out without you leaving the house.” He said icily.

Without leaving the house? Was I being held captive?

“I’m not your prisoner. I can leave whenever I want and there is nothing you can do.” I dared him.

He sniggered at me.

“Good luck with that. I would love to see how that turns out.” He scoffed.

Rex signalled Cameron, who stood at the end of the room. They both left the living room and walked towards the corridor underneath the staircase. I had my eyes on them until they were out of sight. I looked at the bags on the floor and pondered on what he had said.

~Rex’s POV~

Ungrateful, self-centered, who does she think she is? I regret why I had to marry her. If it wasn’t for this stupid inheritance, I wouldn’t think twice and just stayed single.

Cameron had walked in front of me and stopped once he got to the door leading to the basement. He pulled it open and let me walk through first. He closed the door behind and walked behind me. The sobbing soothed mood. Torture, never sounded better.

My bodyguards had tied the maid that bullied Cupcake earlier to a chair. She was gagged. I walked towards her and crouched down in front of the chair.

“Untie her but leave the gag on.” I instructed Peter, the closest to the chair.

He replied in a nod and did as I had instructed. The maid quivered in fear when she saw me. She mumbled as tears ran down her cheeks.

“You thought I wouldn’t know?” I said, wearing a smug smile.

She quickly shook her head. I stretched my hands and used my finger to partially wipe off the tear on her face.

“You knew the rules yet you chose to go against it.” I said calmly. My hand held her jaw.

“You shouldn’t have cross the line.”

She muffled again. I turned a deaf ear and stood on my feet. I turned to the side and saw the steel drum. Jason, one of my bodyguards, poured a bag of ice in it. I could see the cubes floating on the water from where I stood.

“Take her to the drum.” I said.

She muffled even louder. I grinned gleefully as I watched her struggle to break from their grip. I undid my cuffs and adjusted the sleeves of my shirt.

“Stop!”

Cameron and Peter let go of her. She stood in front of the drum. I stood beside her, held her head and put her face into the cold water. I let her stay there for a minute and raised her head. The gag had loosened and hung loosely on her neck. She gasped for air and panted.

“Feels refreshing, doesn’t it?” I taunted her, seeing the fear in her eyes.

She shook her head frighteningly.

“I want words not gestures.”

I put her head back in the water and raised it out again. Her face was slightly turning blue.

“You don’t want to talk, don’t you?” I threatened.

I held her head, stalling for sometime. I was about to put it back there again when she cried.

“I’m sorry.”

I smiled triumphantly. I let go of her. She looked at me frighteningly.

“I-I didn’t mean to pour the bucket of water on her.” She confessed. She hung her head, too scared to look at me.

As much as I dislike Jacqueline, nobody bullies her except me. I walked towards her. My fingers caressed her face. I raised her chin, forcing her to look at me.

“You really shouldn’t make me angry. I can be sweet and also dangerous. Don’t think you’re above her. Whatever that night between us was just nothing. I was just bored and wanted to have a little fun. Try not to go pass your boundary again.” I said as I patted her cheek.

The maid replied in a nod. I walked away from her, towards the door. I slid my hand into my pocket and searched for my pack. F**k! I had left it in the office. I guess I’ll have to drink wine without it.

  • Jacqueline’s Dilemma: Chosen By The Tycoon   Chapter 9

~Jacqueline’s POV~I clutched on to the seatbelt as Rex drove into the compound. He parked his car at the entrance of the garage. My blood suddenly turned cold as the engine stopped. Goose pimples were visible on my arms. I swallowed. Hell; I had returned there with more complications than when I had first arrived. He flashed a glance at me as he unfastened his seatbelt. He looked away and opened the driver’s door. He got out of the car and banged the door. The bang made my heart race. He was angry, I could tell. I watched him through the windscreen as he walked over to the other side. He pulled my door open.“Come out.” He said icily, holding the door open.I unfastened my seatbelt. I glanced at him. Our eyes met and he looked away immediately. I let out a sigh and got out of the car. I banged the door and locked the car. He walked ahead of me while I followed at a distance. He rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. The door opened.“Boss,—.” Cameron said as he opened t

8~Rex’s POV~I made a right turn and drove straight. I drove into the police station and pulled over at the car park. I turned off the ignition and unstrapped the seatbelt. I opened the door and got out to the car. I looked at the building opposite the car park.My phone bleeped. I put my hand in the pocket of my trousers and took it out. The time-out deactivated and saw a notification on the lock screen. It was a text from my lawyer.[I’m inside with the Inspector and your wife. Where are you?]I read it through the notification bar and left it as unread. I discarded my phone back into my pocket and let out a sigh. I walked towards the station. I pulled the door open and almost bumped into an officer.“Watch where you going!” He said coolly. He held an offender by the arm and pulled him. I had gaze at the two for awhile and got the distracted. Then it hit. I went inside. I scanned the reception. Officers on their feet, some in uniform while some in their casual. Some offenders sat

  • Jacqueline’s Dilemma: Chosen By The Tycoon   Chapter 7

Jacqueline’s POVIt has been a week since I got married and nothing has happened. No calls, no posters of a missing person, nothing. It almost feels like I have been easily forgotten. To top it all, I don’t remember where my phone is. How can I call for help?I am certain Bianca would be worried about me and probably be looking for me. She is the only I count on. I walked towards the window and looked through it. His bodyguards were outside, two though. Argh. I have to get out of here somehow. I left the window and paced up and down beside the bed. I caught a glimpse of the handle turning and stood still. It pulled open and that maid came in. She hung her head and avoided eye contact.“Good morning, Mrs. Northman.”Huh? That was strange. Usually, I would have been greeted with rudeness or a sarcastic remark but I didn’t get either of those. “Breakfast is ready. Would you like to be served in your room or downstairs at the table?” She asked, raising her head.I furrowed my brow surp

Rex’s POVI had sat down in my office, with my phone in my hand. It would’ve been easier to watch them closely but my brother chose the wrong to call for an urgent meeting at the company. The video bluffed. Ugh! This too? How else am I supposed to listen to their conversation now? I flashed a glance at the door and noticed the handle turning. I activated my phone’s time-out and left it on my desk. I leant my back against chair and turn the chair side by side at intervals. The door pulled open. The last person I wanted to see, my brother. He scanned the office from the door before he walked in.“For moment, I thought I would see a lady doing the buttons of her shirt like I always do meet them.” He said ironically as he partially closed the door behind him. He walked towards the desk.“You guessed wrong, Alex.” I muttered.Alex hummed and had his hands in his pockets. He gazed at my desk. I furrowed my brow confusingly. What was he up to?“Mum told me you got married.” He said, after s

  • Jacqueline’s Dilemma: Chosen By The Tycoon   Chapter 4

Jacqueline’s POVSplash!I jerked up from the bed. I gasped for air. What was that—? I heard laughter and looked forward. The maid had a bucket in her hand and smiled at me smugly. “Good morning, Ma’am!” She said mockingly.I glanced at the empty bucket and my drenched clothes. I removed the duvet and let out a sigh. I stood on my feet and tried to wrinkle some of the water out of my top. “Breakfast is ready.” She said as she walked towards the door. She pulled it open and stopped.“You know, it would be best if you skipped breakfast this morning. You might even gain more weight.” She sniggered and left the room. She closed the door behind her. Great! That was one way to ruin the day. I scanned the room and had my eyes on the window. I walked towards it and opened the one of the panes. Behind the house was a swimming pool, close to an outdoor bar. The water rippled as the breeze blew and glinted as the rays of the sun reflected on it. The compound looked much bigger from here than
