Bad day

Vanessa's POV

The trees sang a dirge the moment I gave birth to twins. The wind seemed to pat my face. I lost energy and laid on the ground like a dead body. The pack were shocked.

Alpha Ray bolted forward. His jaw dropped and his mouth widened in awe. “What are you still doing there? Get the physician right away!” He barked at the soldiers watching with shock.

My clothes were soaked with blood and Alpha Ray came down to my level, trying to lift my head. “You weren't lying after all.” He murmured, looking at my tired face.

Just as he was carried away for a moment… Lena let out a loud cry, desperate to get the attention I was getting. Alpha Ray, looked back with deep concern on his face. He let go of my head and rushed to meet with Lena.

Just the moment I thought I would be seen, the moment I thought he would care for me, the moment I thought he would leave his deep concern for Lena… it all dawned on me as a reality that I was never loved. Lena was the priority from the onset.

‘Now… Now…’ Tears swirled down my eyes. I hated my decision to ever love him. I wouldn't have been in this mess if I had just let him be.

Minutes later, nurses were carrying my babies, cleaning them up. The physicians had to rush me to the pack's hospital. I was injected twice.

A few minutes later, everything became blurred. Then, it became dark.

Hours later. I breathed out and opened my eyes from a very long sleep. My head ached a little. Everywhere wasn't all that clear at first. “Where are my babies?” First thing that came to my mind. I didn't feel weak… infact, there was a surge of energy throughout my body.

My eyes became clearer and I could only see myself in the room. Even though I realized Alpha Ray didn't love me, I still expected him to be here. But then… I took a deep sigh. Stayed on the bed until after a minute, the physician walked inside.

“You are awake.” He said with a smile on his face immediately he saw me.

I nodded. “Where are my babies?”

“Your baby is in the baby court. How are you feeling now?” He asked me.

“Very good. Can I carry them?” He nodded… “There is something you must know.” He said.

“What's that?” I asked with a bit of concern.

“Alpha Ray took one child. So, you are only left with one.” He broke the news.

I didn't know if I should feel sad or happy. I had mixed feelings about it. Even though I would have loved to raise both of them myself but since he is the father, there is no problem in taking custody.

“Okay. Can I have the one he left behind?”

The physician nodded. “Sit up.” He helped me sit up and then carried the child from the baby court. He handed the baby over to me.

The baby’s face was elegant, bright and hopeful. Touching his light cheek, I could only smile. At that moment, the baby was my source of happiness.

“One more thing you would like to know… your father is here.” The physician announced, “Should I let him in?”

I raised my head in shock… ‘My father?’ I retorted in disbelief. Actually, I was raised alone by my mother. She told me my father was dead. She abandoned me the moment she succeeded in giving my hands in marriage to Alpha Sabastian Ray.

‘How can a dead father be here now? Could it be that my mother has been lying to me all along?” My face was overwhelmed with concern.

“Yes.” I responded quickly, eager to see this man that claimed to be my father.

A few minutes later. Someone old with pale skin and had a big coat on walked right inside the hospital. As he came closer, memories set in. That face, I have seen it before.

When I was younger, I always had a locket around my neck. In it was his picture but, younger one.

It was undeniable that he's my father. “What are you doing here?” I was happy. He abandoned me all my life. What does he want now?

Right before me, he went on his knees with tears on his face. “Vanessa, forgive me. I failed to be part of your life as a father. Please, give me the chance to be part of your life now.”

I looked down on him, dropped my baby beside me… “You abandoned me my whole life… What do you want now? I don't need a father anymore. Just go away.” I said with tears gathering up in my eyes.

“I know you do not need me anymore. But then, I heard about what happened and I am here to help you get out of this pack for good.”

“Why do you care?” I asked outrightly. Taking his pleas for a crocodile tears.

He lifted his face… “I have always cared about you. Your mother shut me out of your life completely after we divorced. She said, "I have nothing to contribute to your life.”

I grunted silently. The pack is toxic anyway and there was no need to hang around anymore. “How do I get out of this pack?” I asked him.

“Whenever you are ready, daughter. We go together.” He informed me happily.

“Do not call me your daughter. My father is dead.” My words were rude and mean. And I could see how broken he was. But then, he smiled happily, accepting my decision without complaint.

“Tonight, I will be ready to leave.” After I informed him. He stood on his feet… “Meet me at the old wood Cabin.”

I nodded. He walked out of the hospital. I picked up my baby and laid directly on the bed. The doctor helped me place the baby in the court.

The time ticked and I felt I needed to see my other child… to know how he was faring. It's already 6:00 PM.

So, “Hello, doc.” I called on the physician. He rushed forward.

“Discharge me. I need to see how my other child is faring.”

“Okay.” He replied and removed the drip from my hand.

I stood on my feet and walked out of the hospital, headed for the house.

As soon as I got to the mansion which once belonged to me and Alpha Ray… I met Lena barking orders to one of the maids.

As soon as she saw me, she came to meet me. “Are you here to take up your duty as the maid already?” She asked with pride on her face.

“I am here to see my child.” I responded. But she burst into laughter that lasted for a moment.

“What's the laughter for? I just asked about my child.” My face was as cold as the stone.

She shot a deadly glance at me from head to toe… “Well, your child is no more.”

“What?” It was as if I didn't hear her well. “That's impossible.” Confusion sat on my face like a crown. I chose not to understand, not to believe what she just said.

“Alpha Ray killed the baby with his hands. I saw him do it.”

My heart ceased beating for a moment. The world seemed to stop and I couldn't help the tears that flowed down my eyes.

“You brought this upon yourself anyways. Pushing too hard on a man that doesn't want you. You are just a slut.” She smiled triumphantly letting out that word.

But then, I raised my head, swallowed up in rage, beholding the smile on her face. I couldn't help it… raised my hand for the first time and slapped her across the face.

“Enough of the insult! You can have him all to yourself.” I barked.

“How dare you!” She raised her voice, wanting to retaliate.

I caught her hand mid-air, “You've done enough already! And I won't have you walk over me again. But I promise you one thing, you and Ray are going to regret it.” Forced the hand down and walked away.

She stood, frozen in shock.
