04. FROM FRYING PAN TO FIRE (1)

"Is she going to wake up any time soon?"

"How am I supposed to know? She doesn't look like us nor does she smell like us - she smells foreign or should I say distance?"

When Jane couldn't bear these voices in her head anymore, she shook her head and opened her eyes forcefully. When she suddenly saw two people bent over her, she screamed but got muffled quickly by the pain that followed that cry. Just close to her heart was a bandage then she remembered what had happened. She was carried away by these creatures to somewhere far and unexplainable - somewhere like the top of a mount and placed there. She was so weak and had to calculate with her head how long they had flown.

Their appearances scared her. What type of beasts were these? Where did they come from? They didn't even look the closest to humans to all. They looked like all these creatures created by movie makers in thriller action movies - only if they knew that these creatures they used CGI to create were real.

As the creatures slowly approached her, she crawled backward in a weak state.

"We are going to kill you first and then eat you, you look yummy." One of them said. His voice was ugly to listen and if he had to sing, Jane was sure that the dead would rise to stone him to death.

"Please... please...let me... please." She begged weakly. Her legs were pulled suddenly with her back scratching the rocks and tiny stones there. She yelped and cried as these creatures gathered around her like they did to that body. That was all she knew after her hand was grabbed, for the remaining part, she was unconscious again. The man in front of her snapped his fingers, bringing her back to life.

"Huh?"

She was helped to sit up and she squeezed her face because of the pain that she was feeling. A wooden cup was used to give her water which she accepted gratefully and drank. Her clothes were already changed into another type that looked archaic to her.

"You don't have to worry about who changed your clothes, it was neither of us. My sister did it." The men assured her.

"Oh...thank you." She mumbled.

"Who are you?"

"Rather what are you? How did you fall into the hands of those monsters? You were caught in the forest, who the hell goes there? Everton knows how dangerous that part can be especially during the red moon period." They scolded her.

Jane just continued staring. How was she supposed to tell them that she had no idea where she was or what a red moon period was? How was she supposed to tell them that she came from a place far from here through a tunnel? They wouldn't trust her, would they?

At this point, she really missed her family and started crying, a habit that confused the two men.

"But why are you crying? What happened?"

"What have you two done to her?" An older woman entered carrying a bowl and a napkin slung around her shoulder. She looked like she just finished bathing. She looked at the two men suspiciously for an answer.

"I swear that we didn't touch her. But it seems as if she has loss of memories - she couldn't say a word and she doesn't remember where she came from." They answered. The woman looked at Jane who was trying hard to control her tears. She then signaled to her brothers to excuse them both. They left.

The woman picked a shirt and wore it. She randomly reached out for her pants which she wore quickly before heading to her side.

"Your current behavior reminds me of the time my brothers and I were lost due to a war that broke out between our Kingdoms." She started and sat beside Jane who finally dared to look at her.

The woman introduced herself as Emily and so did Jane. Emily looked at the terrified young lady. There was something off about her which was strange as well.

"Jane, where are you from? And how did you get into all this mess?" She asked and Jane swallowed.

"It's clear that you are not from any of these kingdoms that exist here so where are you from exactly? If you can speak the truth, I might be able to help you." She added and Jane burst into tears.

"But brother, on a more serious note, why are you here? You didn't tell me you would be coming so soon so what's the problem?" Hezekiah said as he folded his legs and sat up on his brother's bed, watching Allen dress up to sleep for the night.

"I also wasn't expecting myself to be here but here I am." He answered.

"That was not the answer I was looking for."

"Then continue searching," Allen told him but Hezekiah refused to give up.

"Are the rest also coming too?"

Allen approached him and carried him off his bed. He pushed him outside his room and glared at him,

"Go and sleep." He ordered and made a sign that Hezekiah should keep his mouth closed regarding anything someone might want to inquire through him before shutting the door against his face.

"Damn, I hate you. You're disgusting." He shouted and angrily left the spot, not noticing someone's curious gaze on him.

Alex walked to the window and stared at the red moon. He sighed and shook his head.

"Where are you, Jane?" He mumbled.

This period was supposedly the most dangerous moment ever and he didn't know which part of this world Jane could be in. Hopefully, no harm would come to her and it wouldn't be too late before they meet. Also, he needed to be secretive about his reason for being here so that his plans wouldn't be forfeited. He couldn't make any mistakes at this point - not even now at all.
