I woke up on the hospital bed, the sterilized smell of the medicines and beeping sound of machines reached into my ears and I tried to move.
A dull pain aches in my whole body, especially my lower abdomen and as soon as I recalled how I ran after my husband to explain to him that I was innocent, I fell and hit my stomach. I tried telling him about the pregnancy but he ignored my pleas and attended Amelia first.
“Luna, easy. You are still weak and need proper rest.”
I heard Ellie’s soft voice and I turned my head to see my friend. She had a gentle smile on her face.
“My baby?” I dared to ask her with a sinking heart because there’s no way my baby wouldn’t be hurt. I felt the pain.
“You didn’t miscarry, Luna. It’s an alpha’s baby so it survived the fatal blow.” She broke the most relieving news to me.
My eyes moistened.
“But the baby is very weak and it might not survive for long unless Alpha comes here and the baby observes his alpha father’s wolf’s energy since you are wolfless. You have to call the alpha here now. I tried but he said he doesn’t want to be disturbed as-” She paused as she hesitated to complete her sentence.
“It’s okay. For him Amelia is more important. He doesn’t care even if I die.” I smiled weakly and placed my hand on my belly.
“I was afraid when I saw the blood but I don’t understand what really happened to Amelia? She looks fine to me.” Ellie frowned with disappointment.
I remained silent and replayed the incident in my mind. Amelia was cunning and if she found out about my pregnancy, I fear what she might do. I had to protect my baby at any cost.
She was a vicious woman who had played a wicked game. She loved to see me in pain for her sick pleasure.
“Call the alpha, Luna. Baby’s heartbeats are low.” Ellie said and I panicked.
I wasted no time in dialling his number and he picked after a few rings.
“Dominic, please…can you come over here in the emergency ward? I am admitted here.” I said in a low voice.
I heard him exhale deeply. He does it when he’s frustrated.
“Listen, Cassandra. I don’t know what you are trying to prove or do. I really don’t care. I want you to come here and apologize to Amelia for hurting her unnecessarily. She is in pain.” He said coldly.
My heart constricted like someone had stabbed me brutally.
Tears streamed down from my eyes.
“Do you really think I would hurt her? Don’t you want to know what happened to me?” I asked in a cracked tone.
“Listen, Cassandra. I don’t have time for your tantrums. Everyone said that you have been complaining about Amelia being an imposter and only trying to gain my attention. As your alpha, I want you to come here and apologize to her for everything. I think I had made a big mistake when I chose you as my Luna. An insecure person isn’t worthy of the title.” He said in a blank tone and hung up.
I felt my heart sinking to my stomach but I felt a strong urge to go and yell at him and tell him that I had changed myself for him. I did everything in my power to serve as a good Luna even without having a wolf.
“What did he say? Is he coming?” Ellie asked.
It was the last strand of my patience. I broke down and Ellie was quick enough to embrace me.
“I didn’t hurt her but he believed her white lies just because she’s a fated mate. For two tears, he never questioned me or my actions and always said that I would do only good for his pack. She changed everything.” I sobbed.
I had realized how one-sided love hurts when the one you love with everything in you, turns their back and behaves you don’t even exist.
“Calm down, Luna. I will go and find some medicines to help the baby. Please, rest and try talking to him once his anger cools down. I am sure he’ll come to see you. We have seen him. He isn’t bad at heart.” She tried to fill my hopes in me.
I wiped my tears and laid down on the bed. She left the ward to bring medicines for my unborn baby.
It had not been even 24 hours and Amelia succeeded in making my life difficult. I almost lost my baby, my most precious treasure.
Closing my eyes, I thought about the day when Dominic declared that he’d marry me against the wishes of our families and packs. He chose me as his arranged mate and strictly ordered his pack to treat me as Luna must be treated.
He was always kind to me. Everyone accused me and labelled me as a murderer but not him. He never doubted me but today, he easily believed that I spilled some hot water on Amelia.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps outside my ward, they were nurses.
“Did you see how our Alpha rushed his future Luna to the hospital and how he scolded that lying runt. It was worth seeing.” One of them ridiculed me.
It wasn’t new but their next conversation caught my attention.
“Alpha decided to marry her on the next full moon. The wedding will be the grandest. I can’t wait to see our true Luna and Alpha reuniting. Finally, this pack will have a powerful and most beautiful Luna.”
Rest of their words fell deaf ears.
Dominic decided to marry her in the next one week.
It was time for me to take my respectful exit before he’d throw me out.
The door opened and Ellie walked in with the medicine.
“Here, let me inject you and it might help the baby to recover but he’ll still need his father.” She said and injected me.
I closed my eyes and felt the stinging pain.
“Ellie, can you do one last job for me? I want it to be done today before the evening.”
“Yes, Luna.” She agreed.
I took a deep breath and then faced her.
“Ask your lawyer to draw divorce agreement. I am leaving alpha to his fated mate. Please, do it today because I don’t want my baby to suffer another fatal accident. Please, Ellie. I have to do this.”
She looked at me with pain and sympathy but then agreed.
“Give me only two hours and it will be ready but where will you go, Luna?’ She asked with worry.
“I don’t know. I just don’t want to stay here.” I swallowed the lump in my throat.
Later in the evening, I was discharged from the hospital. Dominic didn’t come and I knew he’d never come.
I packed the most necessary stuff, took some cash and my educational certificates. I had trained to be a doctor.
I signed the divorce papers with nothing but emptiness and placed my wedding ring on the top of the folded documents on Dominic’s office desk.
“Goodbye, Dominic. I wish you can finally be reunited with your true love and have a happily ever after.” I said, staring at his portrait.
It was taken during his alpha oath ceremony.
Wiping my tears, I left the packhouse. Nobody noticed or even questioned me because I never really mattered to them.
Once I was out of the pack’s borders, I felt the faint connection disappear.
I was a free woman with a baby growing inside me.
[ Dominic ]“Alpha, the security is intact. I am personally supervising all the units. No one will leave the pack until the next morning after the party and after six in the evening tomorrow, no will enter the pack.” Dustin said.“Good, I think our plan is also in motion. Lucian will be trapped. No matter what he has in his mind.” I nodded my head in satisfaction.“Your suit is ready and it will be delivered by four in the evening, Alpha.” He said and after a nervous pause, he added, “And also the gown you have commissioned for Dr. Miller.”“Thank you, Dustin. I don’t have to worry much because you know your duties well.” I felt quite light-hearted after the breakfast incident at my parents’ residence two days ago.“Alpha, may I ask why you ordered a dress for Dr. Miller? She doesn’t seem to like you very much and Ms. Croft, she won’t be much pleased if she learns that you gifted a dress for Dr. Miller.”I smiled at his query.“The annual Lunar festival isn’t some random party, Dustin
[ Cassandra ]“I don’t talk much because there’s no one who can truly understand this old woman. Only Cassandra had that kindness in her. I wish she comes back. I can’t see my grandson living a robotic life for the sake of his pack.” She continued.According to her, Dominic still misses me?It sounded foreign but she said it with certainty.“I hope she’s fine wherever she’s living.” I looked down at my folded hands.“Dr. Miller, can you please stay until the full moon? I insist because I have grown to like you as a friend who can listen to me.” She requested.I couldn’t dare to look into her eyes because I had no courage to say no to her.“Okay, I’ll stay for your birthday, Madam.” I forced a smile because it seemed the meeting had no meaning. She didn’t spill anything.“Maybe something good happen in these last days and you won’t be disappointed anymore.” She smiled widely.“I can be optimistic. Please, allow me to go now. I have to fresh up and go to the hospital. The medicine I hav
[ Cassandra ]Roseline Woodford stared at me for a several seconds before she parted her lips to speak.“It’s terrible to hear how a small child is suffering from this kind of pain. How is he doing?” She asked me, her tone held worry for the boy she never met.I fidgeted with my fingers. It was hard to talk about Cassius’ health. His pale, sick face flashed in my mind and it took me every ounce of self-control to hold back my tears.“I have been studying hard, went to many places and did countless trials to find a cure but the decease has no roots to discovered and verified decease in human world.” I told her the truth. If she knew about a cure then I have to crack her first. It was the only way to unlock the secret that she had been carrying for years.“So, you accepted my grandson’s request to treat Amelia because their symptoms are the same and you thought perhaps your answers lie in here?” She asked.I nodded my head affirmatively.“My son has been in immeasurable pain. I can trea
[ Dominic ]I slammed my fists on the wall as soon as the door closed behind Dr. Miller. Her outburst and her resolution to leave my pack had left me speechless. She was adamant to leave the pack and it became very challenging for me to keep her close.I didn’t hate her as she thought but I was more curious now. Her outburst felt more defending. She was nervous. I could see clouds of panic in those hazel brown eyes. There was definitely a connection between her and Cassandra. The way she reacted fiercely, it solidified my doubts. She was protecting Cassius, the boy who always made me want to collect him in my arms. I felt his pain whenever I was close to him.I had only a few days to discover the truth. I strongly feel like she’s my wife. This kind of spark that I had been feeling around a human, her striking resemblance with Cassandra. It made sense to me.“Alpha, please, calm down.” Dustin barged inside when he heard the smashing sound.I broke the window glass to unleash my anger a
[ Cassandra ]“He isn’t yours, Alpha. How many times do I have to repeat this? Please, stop making our lives complicated.” I somehow gathered my wanning patience with him.His eyes were making it hard for me to stand on my grounds. There was firmness and the determination made me realize that the day isn’t far when he’d find out the truth.“Okay, then prove it to me. My wolf and I aren’t wrong every time he’s near me. Even Cassius feel the connection. Tell me, what should I call it?”“I don’t care what you think or assume, Alpha. My son has been without a father figure ever since he was born. Maybe he’s trying to find one in you. Please, spare him because a false hope will break his innocent heart.”Tears brimmed in my eyes. When I found out about my pregnancy, I never thought one day I had to lie to my baby’s father boldly. I had to do it with perfection but Dominic didn’t deserve to be his father. He stepped closer.“Then tell me who’s his father. I won’t go after him but if you wan
[ Cassandra ]“What do you want to say, Alpha?”I broke the excruciating silence that prevailed inside the room. I could see his intense stare on me which made it even more hard for me to act normally.“You met Lucian in the evening.”So, it was about Lucian again. How did it not cross my mind before?“Yes, I met him today. It wasn’t a secret place.” I told him.“May I know the reason why you met the pack’s enemy? I told you to stay away from him, didn’t I, Doctor?” His tone reflected his anger but I was least bothered. The man had lost every right to feel this way.“I don’t think I have to report you about my day to day life events, Alpha. I am not conspiring against you. That’s all you need to know.” I kept my answer firm.He snorted and ran his fingers thorough his hairs. He always did it whenever he feels angry.“I know you aren’t but I don’t trust Lucian. He isn’t a friend. Why can’t you understand this simple thing?” He raised his voice a little. It was the end of my patience wi

[ Dominic ]I felt an uneasy feeling settling in my chest. My wolf, Rex, was anxious, pacing and howling around in my mind.I snapped at Cassandra when she called me. She wanted to tell me something but I said harsh words to her in my anger. Amelia had been crying and I couldn’t see her state after
[ Cassandra ]“There’s only one woman in my heart and that’s you, Amy. I have only loved you because you’re irreplaceable in my life.”Dominic’s confession crushed the last flicker of hope inside me. I felt a part of me dying, the part he saved and revived two years ago.“Oh, Dominic, I don’t doubt
[ Cassandra ]“Luna, you’re two weeks pregnant!”My mind went numb, eyes unable to believe what my doctor showed me on the monitor screen.
