Alpha Cassar Salvaterre of the Viribus Pack had graced us with his presence after all.
One could say he was decently attractive. Long legs, built chest, broad shoulders. His jaw looked like it had been chiselled from stone. I couldn't help but notice he had nice lips too. His face was the definition of 'manly'.
5 o'clock shadow graced his bronze skin. His hair was a dark grey colour, normal for shifters. He kind of looked like the bad boy version of super man.
And his eyes, they were warm, almost shining, but blacker than midnight. Staring at me and the male who was still laying on his back beside me with his head up staring at the Alpha.
Every creature in the forest seemed to have stopped breathing. Except for me, I was still laughing at the sulky Alpha who needed to learn it was just a game. I didn't care what he was, he needed to chill.
Of course, I knew who he was. The moment he set foot beside the clearing when I was making my first play I could feel his alpha presence.
He only said one word. "Mate."
My eyes shot up in surprise as my smile widened. He wasn't grumpy because we got a touchdown. He was grumpy that I was tackled. I looked behind me at the boy who seemed to be frozen on the ground staring back at the Alpha.
"Congratulations!" I cried at the new mates. Of course the Alpha wouldn't want his mate to be touching another female. He wouldn't want his mate to get hurt. Wolves were weird like that.
I didn't know it was possible, but I'm pretty sure the crowd went even quieter. Why would everyone be so quiet? This was a happy occasion. They should be cheering louder for their Alpha than they did for a touchdown. Two mates had just found each other for crying out loud.
Clearly the Alpha did not agree with me either, as another growl came from deep within his chest. I looked down at the Alphas mate beside me with a questioning look. Maybe he would know what was up with his mate.
The large young male just kept staring at the Alpha as he just shook his head back and forth. "Not me."
I slowly got to my feet, looking behind me for the Alpha's new mate. "Then who?"
No one stood out to me. I looked back at the Alpha and then the young male, hoping he would ease my confusion. He did not as he said, "You."
I whipped my head around again trying to find who he was talking to. When I realised no one was close enough for him to be speaking to, I looked at the Alpha again. It did kind of seem like the Alpha was staring at me. But it wasn't possible for us to be mates.
Then I started to laugh. "No, it's not."
I started laughing harder as the Alpha started stalking closer to us, but this time his eyes had shifted to the young male. My laugh died. The warm shine of his eyes was gone, replaced by steal and rage. His eyes seemed to be promising death.
The large male beside me started shaking. His own eyes full of panic. The weight of the Alpha's presence pushing him into submission. He didn't even bother to stand.
My own eyes started to widen realising that the Alpha was going to kill his pack member in front of all the families who were here to watch a football game. They came for a football game, not the gladiator games.
Regularly, it wouldn't bother me, but I had a job to do. A bloodbath would definitely send me back to square one. Plus, he was a nice kid, it wasn't his fault. It was just a game.
Before I could think I felt my body step in front of the quivering wolf shifter.
Easily distracting Cassar Salvaterre, he stopped walking staring at me again. I saw his eyes glancing back and forth between me and his pack member. I watched him battle eternally with himself. Trying to decide between dealing with me, or the male who had tackled me.
He seemed to have decided that the whimpering male was more important as he ground out, trying to step around me. "Move Mate."
"One," I said holding up a number one with my fingers, following his movements. "No."
The crowd watching the scene gasped at my rebellious words.
He growled again, but I ignored him. Turning my fingers from a one into a two. "And two, I'm not your mate."
I heard the crowd gasp again at my response. No one was supposed to speak to an Alpha like that. Especially when the alpha did not have full control of his body.
I didn't care. I stopped caring about the hierarchy of families a long time ago.
He looked at me as if I was stupid. "Yes, you are my mate. And yes, you will move."
Cassar Salvaterre tried to step around me again, and again I mirrored his footsteps. "There, I moved."
His eyes seemed to get even darker. He started to shake, he was very close to losing control. I smirked. He growled again. "Move out of my way, so I can deal with this mutt."
"Okay, you need to relax." I rolled my eyes.
"He attacked you." The Alpha snarled. Taking a big step towards me and the male. I mirrored him again taking a big step behind me. Hitting the guy in the leg. The Alpha caught the contact, glaring at where our feet touched. The male quickly moved his legs away. Stupid territorial wolves.
"No, he tackled me. Big difference." I spoke slowly to the Alpha as if he were a child. Forcing his attention back on me. I needed to keep his attention off of the male. The best way I knew how to do that was through annoyance. Either that or start stripping, but I didn't feel like giving a bunch of creepy wolves that good of a show.
"There is no difference." He was grinding his teeth.
"Ummm yes there is. Considering we are playing football. Where tackling is apart of the game."
"He should not have touched you." He spit out.
"Okay dumbo, how do you propose we play football without any contact? You want flag football? Like a bunch of wusses?" I flung my arms up in the air in frustration.
He growled again, glaring at my gesturing arms. Apparently, he didn't like sudden movements.
"No."
"See," I made the 'see all' gesture with my right hand. "then we need to tackle each other to play." "No. As in, he should not have touched you." He glared at the male again. His fists clenching. I threw my head back, staring at the blue sky, not a cloud in sight. Pinching the bridge of my nose to calm down. "Then what do you want us to do?" I made a lot more gestures than I needed to, hoping to once and for all distract him from the male. His eyes snapped to mine. "Don't call me dumbo." I gave a hard laugh, then asked. "Are you dense or something?" For the hundredth time, he growled at me, baring his teeth. I raised a brow questioning his sanity. "That's it," I exclaimed jumping up, a wide grin replacing my frustrated scowl. "You are dense. That's why you think I'm your mate." The only thing this guy seemed to know how to do was growl. "You are my mate." I took one large step closer to the alpha so we were only a couple of feet apart. He gave me his full undivided attention.
An hour later he didn't once get distracted. He didn't get distracted when a group of young wolves ran onto our path. It took one icy look from the female wolf for the kids to turn on their heels and run like they saw a bloody ghost. He also didn't get distracted when a squirrel almost ran over our feet. Which made me really disappointed because I thought dogs loved squirrels. And he was clearly a dog.The four of us walked at a slow pace through dark trees for over an hour. We passed rivers, walked over creaks. Climbed up hills. The sun was just starting to set, the four of us barely speaking. Cassar's eyes lightened to a natural dark brown colour.Once in awhile Cassar would look at me. Open his mouth like he was about to say something, but quickly snap it shut when he saw my glare. Good. I didn't want to speak to him anyways.Every step we took he seemed to calm down more and more. Every step I took I became more and more anxious. I was running out of time to make my getaway.I mad
"Here we go again. He did not attack me, he tackled me." Every word I gritted out became louder than the last.He growled, but before he could say anything else Gage let out a cough. Alpha Cassar gave him a look, but he stood up straight not falling for my trick. He put his arm around my shoulder pushing me toward the car, making me squirm out of his touch."Just get in the car." He struggled with the word. "Please.""No." I said again, slamming my feet into the ground."What do you want?" He asked me."What?" I gave him a confused look. What does he mean what do I want?"What do I have to do to get you in the car?" He looked serious, like he was actually contemplating making a deal."Let me go." I put my hands on my hips looking up at him."Other than that." He sighed. He was serious. He was actually willing to bargain with me. Too bad he didn't know I was was called the Queen of Tricks. I stood there for a moment thinking."I want a meeting with Alpha Soren." I finally decided. I wa
My jaw was on the ground. Why I hadn't robbed this pack yet was mind blowing.I looked at the others in the car. They didn't seemed fazed at all. Only Cassar Salvaterre had a reaction, but that reaction was directed at me. He had a slight smile on his lips. Amusement in his eyes. That just made me glare at him. How dare he look at me when I wasn't paying attention."We can go inside." The Alpha said getting out of the car. Pack members started appearing out of nowhere to see who had arrived."Pardon?" I stepped out of the car, looking at him like he had three heads. He gave me a blank stare."We can" he gestured between us, "go inside." He gestured to the castle. Then he mumbled to himself. "Who's dense now?""Still you," I mumbled right back. "But why would I go inside? So you can finally kill me?"He took a deep slow breath. "I'm not going to hurt you.""I know that pup. I would like to see you try." I smirked at him. He growled at the pup comment. He probably could hurt me, but at
I knew the chances of me getting out of this were very slim. The Alpha would not be happy that I had just punched him in front of his entire pack. He would send every warrior, fighter, father, mother, child after me, just so he could seek his vengeance to rip me apart. He would do it too. He was psychotic and dense after all.I hurdled over moss-covered rocks, jumping over fallen trees. Every step I took the wolves behind me took two.I knew there was only a small chance of me getting out of here alive. I may be fast, but wolves were known for their speed and strength. I wasn't one to overestimate my abilities. Agility would only get me so far at a time like this.My talents were at their finest when no one knew I was around. When I was a spy or a thief. Or at least when I was further away and had time to set some traps. Plus, I wasn't thinking clearly. The way they were running, they would be caught up in seconds.I wouldn't even be able to shift to help me escape. If I was further a
He gave me a suspicious look, but he did let me go. I backed up a few steps, showing him a calm face. I even put my hands up in the air showing I meant no harm. One, two, three. I darted for the door again, faster this time.Just like the last time, Cassar Salvaterre's arm grabbed hold of me. I started squirming, kicking and punching him as fast and as hard as I could. Considering he was holding down my arms, and my legs were very short, I wasn't doing much damage."I can't stay here!" I screamed at him, as he threw me onto the soft bed.He stood over me with his hands on his hips. "Why?"He was honestly asking. He was so stupid. I stood up on the bed so we were eye level."Because it's not my home. I don't live here." I explained."It could be though. If you stop your damn fighting." He groaned. Then I had an idea. Not a good idea, but an idea."You know what? Your right. This is a good place. A very nice place. But unfortunately I don't have my stuff. So I'm just going to run right
She was infuriating. From the moment I saw her I knew she was going to be trouble. The way she had moved between wolves, dodging their attacks, it made my heart stop in my chest. Yet, she had avoided every single one of them with a lethal grace. It was the first football game I was attending since I had become Alpha. I was going to support my pack, but instead I was distracted by the smell of a summer breeze on a chilly fall afternoon. The smell had my wolf going crazy. Then I saw her. She was small, smaller than all the other wolves on the field. Her body was toned, muscle that was earned. Her long shaded brown hair pulled into a loose ponytail. The almost pink glow of her skin. The small button nose. Her full lips curved into a wicked little smirk with blazing blue eyes.I, and everyone else around, were mesmerised watching her play.I never wanted a mate. Mates were too much of a distraction. I couldn't afford to lose my focus on the pack. I needed to focus on healing them, not woo
"What is her name?" My eyes blinked."V." She dared to raise her eyes to me. As soon as she saw them she stared back at the ground. Gage stepped closer to our conversation sensing my irritation. He had been patiently listening a few feet over."That's it?" Gage asked from beside me.She nodded her head. She looked Gage in the eyes. This was our trick. I played bad cop, he was the good cop. It was effective."I don't know what the V stands for. If I did I would tell you." She assured us.I believed her. "What else do you know.""She's from Ontario. I don't know what pack. She was thinking of joining ours. I don't know why. Her uncle is our Beta though."My head perked up at that. "The Beta?""Yeah, but I don't know how. If it's from his blood or his mates. That's what I mean she talks a lot. Someone asked, but I don't remember her ever answering." That was information I could pocket away. I needed to remember that if I ever wanted to learn more about her."Is that all?" My voice was ca
