INTERNAL GRIEF

When we arrive at the hospital my heart is beating like it wants to escape from my chest.

Seeing my wife on the hospital beat void of her usual warmth is difficult. I thought I wouldn't have to see her on a hospital bed again like when I did in our past life. I know the situation is different but my brain is refusing to acknowledge it.

The doctor said that nothing serious happened to her brain but she was reacting to something that triggered her to claw at her neck. Her mind decided to shut down the moment she heard my voice but her body didn't quit responding.

Nothing like this ever happened in our past life. She never had any response to anything like this.

Taking out a phone I call one of the few people who owe me favours.

" Christopher, what can I do for you?"

" Robert. Remember the favour you owe me? I need to cash it now."

" Done. What do you need?"

" I need you to kidnap Killian and torture him... preferably breaking one of his arms."

" May I know what your brother did?"

" He strangled my wife and caused her to have a traumatic reaction."

Silence followed next

" You know what you don't need to cash in your favour for me to this for you. He touched sister and for that he shall feel how it felt. Keep your favour. Consider this a welcome to the family gift to sister. And may she get well soon."

The line goes dead.

Robert Black is the founder of the Raging Fire Motorcycle club. He is four years older than me and we met when I was still a teenager. He was trying to rob me of my watch when I asked him if robbing someone younger than him was something to be proud of. He didn't like being called out and as you can imagine he tried fighting me. I made him a deal, I give him the means to leave the streets and he stops robbing people. And as usual with stubborn people he refused until he said that he'd rather owe me a favor for whenever I needed something.

We don't keep In touch that much but I head he runs a tight ship and since that day he has called me his brother. He is actually the one I worked with in my past life to make Killian's live a living hell.

Taking Kim's hand in mine I send a prayer to Nyx to help give me strength for everything going to be thrown our way.

My head is resting on top of our hands when I hear murmurs come from Kim. I thought she was already awake but she looks like she's dreaming still.

Soothing her hair I whisper that she's okay. She quiets for a moment before a heartbreaking sentence leaves her mouth.

" Why did you hate me so much?"

I thought she was thinking I hate her when she continued.

" You were with him behind my back but that wasn't enough for you wasn't it, you had to make me your unknowing surrogate. As if that wasn't cruel enough you gloat to me on my death bed."

Tears are sliding down her face as she whispers the words that shatter and reinforce my world.

She is describing what happened to her in our past life, that means she is also reborn but also that of all the things that happened to her in her past life, the betrayal that came from Vivian crushed her the most.

She had unconsciously not let go of her relationship with Vivian and now whatever happened in her office made her finally let go and she is grieving what could have been.

I take off my coat and shoes and climb into bed with her.

She immediately curls her body towards me and continues to silently cry. After a while she wakes up hiccuping.

" You are okay sweetheart. I promise." she nods.

" Have I been crying in my sleep?" I nod.

" I think you were woken up by your hiccups, but its normal to cry in your sleep if you were strangled or dreamt of bad things and by bad things I mean sad things. No one is going to judge you especially not me sweetheart."

She gives me a tiny smile.

" Killian stole one of my designs. The ruby bracelet I wanted to give to you after telling me I owe him my life."

If I wasn't so focused on her I wouldn't have caught what she said. She designed her creation with me in mind and that it was stolen by my brother.

*Don't worry about him. He is going to get what is coming to him. And your design will be reported as stolen so that mom and dad know."

She nods and her breathe evens out in a while as she dozes off. I understand her. Emotional exhaustion is too much.
