Dragged to the hunt

Nyx

It's been two days since I got slammed against the wall, but the students won't stop laughing and whispering as I walk to my locker. It doesn't matter if I'm the Beta's daughter or human. Teenagers can be assholes, especially werewolves who believe strength is everything.

"Hey girl." Mira waves at me with a wide smile. Well, at least not all teenagers are cruel.

"Hey Mira," I say, closing my locker.

She links her arm through mine and drags me excitedly into an empty classroom, not caring about the girls staring daggers at us as we walk past.

"How's your preparation for the Crimson Hunt coming? I really hope to find my mate that day. What if he's a Lycan?" Excitement beams in her eyes.

"You know I can't go. I'm not even a she-wolf," I said, sitting on an empty desk.

"Uh, so what? You're the Beta's daughter."

I roll my eyes. A butler's daughter has more rights than me. Besides, I never understood why she-wolves fight each other to be claimed by monsters. I've seen a Lycan's beast form, and that doesn't look like something any normal girl should be fighting for. So what if the Lycan population is thinning? They should find other ways instead of sit and watch females struggle for positions they barely get.

I pull out the sandwich I stole from the kitchen this morning and bite into it while Mira continues.

"I wasn't able to find my mate last year on my seventeenth birthday, but I have a very strong feeling I'll meet him at the hunt. Plus I'm turning eighteen two days from now." She sits beside me. "You know, I heard the Lycan prince is extremely handsome and he'll be claiming his mate this year."

Her face twists into a fake pout. "But he's reserved for Alpha females or strong Beta females. Like Vesper."

Yeah, Vesper is one strong she-wolf. Her father, Alpha Gerald, treats her like a trophy. She's mean, but even I can't help but admire her. She's everything I could never be.

I nod along, half listening to Mira's never-ending tale about her dream mate. Something about his height and the feel of him. All Alphas with unmated daughters have the opportunity to be connected to the Lycan family, to expand their political power. That's why Alpha females train as hard as males. Not me. I can't walk two blocks without gasping for air.

The school bell rang and we headed to our separate classes. I love Mira, but my ears were beginning to ache from all her talks.

I didn't see her again for the rest of the day. Maybe she already left to prepare for the hunt. I guess I'm on my own for the next two weeks. At least her sister and her minions won't be around for a while. That leaves me with the less mean girls.

When the final bell rang I didn't waste a second getting to my bike. The wind brushes through my hair as I ride home. My phone beeps inside my backpack but I decided not to check it yet. Probably another rejection from Crescent University. Who would blame them, it's an elite school and maybe they've figured out how much of a nobody I am. But deep down I hope I'm wrong. A scholarship is my only way out of this hell.

The pack house comes into view and my shoulders drop with exhaustion. I park my bike in the cramped shed I generously call a garage and head inside. The servants are busier than usual, hauling boxes and bags through the hallways. I walk past them to my room, too tired to care.

I toss my backpack onto the nearest surface and step into the bathroom. The cracked mirror reflects a pale stranger with green eyes that have seen too many sleepless nights. My red hair could be richer. Before showering I double-check the door lock. I wouldn't want my stepbrother "accidentally" wandering into my room.

I shower quickly and change into a tank top, denim shorts and an oversized shirt thrown over it. I pick up my phone to check my notifications when a loud bang on my door stops me.

Perfect. Nothing says "welcome back" like someone hammering on your door. I just wanted five minutes before making dinner. Apparently that's too much to ask. I open the door and my heart sinks.

Cullen's gaze rakes over me like I'm something to eat. His gray eyes linger on my chest. I thought he already left for the hunt.

"Get ready. We're leaving." He said.

Before I can process that, my stepmother's voice carries from down the hall. "Why take her? She'll be completely useless there."

I look at Cullen. He's already impatient.

"What?" I say, completely lost.

"Did I stutter?" He drags a hand through his hair. "Calix and the others are already waiting. You have two minutes. And if you're not out by then, you'll get punished."

I swallow hard, knowing exactly what kind of punishment he means. He turns and walks away, leaving me standing in the doorway with confusion written all over my face. Two minutes. Calix and the others. Did he mean Vesper, Sera, and Cald?

Oh no. The Crimson Hunt.

I sigh as my fears come to life. I've never been to Quicksilver pack. I've never been to any other pack.

Before I can pull myself together Cullen came back, his expression darker this time. He doesn't let me speak before grabbing my arm and dragging me with him. I struggle against his grip knowing it's useless. My father and stepmother are standing beside the car in silence, their distant expressions telling me they're mind-linking. They both turn to Cullen when we reach the car. Not that I was expecting a warm welcome.

"Why take her? She'll only be a burden," my stepmother says.

"I need a personal assistant," Cullen says flatly.

I huff. Personal assistant. Is that what we're calling servants now?

"I really don't mind staying back." I looked at my father. He doesn't spare me a glance. Maybe he doesn't want me to see the guilt in his eyes. If he feels any.

I stand there watching the happy family exchange hugs and kisses. How sweet.

Cullen opens the car door and shoves me inside before going around to the driver's side. My phone presses into my back pocket. I pull it out just as he starts the engine.

"Cullen, you don't have to take me with you," I said.

"Why?" He glances over at me. "So you can sleep with every guy in school while I'm gone?"

My stepmother is a crazy lady but I feel safer with her than her psychopathic son.

We barely pass through the iron gates before his hand shut out and grabbed my hair, yanking me toward him.

"Where did you run off to two days ago?"

  • Rejected and Marked by the Lycan Prince    Alpha twins

Nyx For a moment, neither of us moved. He stood by his car, gray eyes fixed on me, and for one foolish second I let myself believe he was happy to see me. I started to move towards him, but then his expression shuttered, and whatever warmth I'd imagined disappeared like it was never there. Still, against every nerve in my system, I didn't stop until I was a few feet from him. "Dad." The word felt strange in my mouth, like I was learning a new language. He didn't answer, instead doing a terrible job of trying to control his facial expression, which shifted from shock to anger. If I didn't know better, I would have thought he was nervous. "How are you doing, Dad?" My voice cracked. I held the file tighter, hoping it wouldn't rip while I waited for his answer. When he did, disappointment hit me more than I expected. "What are you doing here?" His voice was as I remembered, cold. I tried not to let it bother me. "I go here now. Well, I will, if I get everything sorted." I couldn't st

  • Rejected and Marked by the Lycan Prince    Gray eyes

Nyx The room felt too small, like a ribcage closing in. It was as if the oxygen was being sucked out of the room, and all I could feel was the heat radiating from Kyrell's body. I quickly moved away from him, putting enough distance between us. I stared at him, disgusted with myself. "You're disgusting." I spat, folding my arms on my chest. Slowly, he turned to face me. "Says the one responding to my touch." There was a hint of amusement in his voice, that infuriated me more. I could make out the slight smirk on his features despite the dimly lit room. "Oh yeah? I wasn't the one seeking validation to prove I'm a good kisser." I probably sounded childish, but I didn't care about that now. Kyrell stood there for some time, his expression back to stone before walking towards the door. "My driver would take you to Crescent in the morning." He twisted the door handle and halted his movement. "I don't need your help." I gritted before he could step outside. I refused to let him b

  • Rejected and Marked by the Lycan Prince    Was it terrible?

NyxI guess my life wasn't so shitty after all. The scholarship was the only good thing to come out of this whole mess, even if the messenger was my brother.Cullen must have seen the war on my face because he added, "Admission ends in two days." He said gleefully. Two days? At least I had enough time to prepare myself. I still didn't know what I needed preparations for. This was my only chance of actually getting the hell out of here."No." The word came out steadier than I felt. "I'm not going anywhere with you."His smirk faltered, just for a second, and I savored it more than I should have. I turned and walked out of the garden before he could recover enough to argue, my legs carrying me faster than my mind could keep up.I had a bond I still needed to sever, and I didn't know how to go about it. Maybe rejecting his offer would make him give up. Who was I kidding? Cullen never knew when to give up. At least I got the information, time to put it to good use.I'd be a fool to follow

  • Rejected and Marked by the Lycan Prince    Make a choice

NyxIt took me faster than I expected to understand what Vesper just said. However, before I could reply to her, she spun on her heel and walked towards the stairs, leaving me to deal with the impending weight of Alpha Gerald's rage. After a moment I snapped out of it. I needed to get my life back together by actually getting the fuck out of here. That meant finding a way to sever this bond. However impossible that might be. And what better place to search for impossible knowledge if not a library?I started walking, searching for any room with books in it. After walking for about ten minutes, I still couldn't find the library. Did the packhouse even have one? The feeling of frustration burned the soles of my feet as I traced my steps back downstairs.I was about to go to the kitchen and ask the nice omegas for directions when a strong pull tugged me towards the back door. Like an ancient yearning that felt oddly familiar.I didn't know where it led, but I found myself moving towards

  • Rejected and Marked by the Lycan Prince    His amusement

Third personKyrell's hand tightened around Cullen's throat, and all he could think of was finishing it. To feel the exact second life left the body dangling from his fist. The bastard before him had the guts to lay his hands on her. Ignoring the way his mind was currently being invaded by both his luna and beta, he focused on the task at hand. After crossing his border in search of Nyx he ordered his warriors to keep an eye out for him. He knew Cullen would definitely be back to finish what he started, but he didn't expect it to be this soon.Cullen's eyes locked onto his, and behind the fake struggle there was something else. Something Kyrell recognized immediately. Amusement.Cullen knew that the Lycan alpha regretted not killing him when he had the chance. He knew the killing intent he was doing a good job of controlling was all because of his little sister. He'd known the moment Kyrell descended those stairs that this was how it would end. How he wanted it to go. Due to his beta

  • Rejected and Marked by the Lycan Prince    Time's up

NyxCullen?I released a sigh I never realized hung in my chest. Mira ran towards him and held his face with both hands. The warriors didn't stop her, they just let go of him and turned to leave. Before he could crash on the floor, Mira held him by the waist."What happened to you?" She gasped. The pain in her eyes made my heart clench. She kept whispering words to him, and slowly, his eyes blinked open. I didn't know if I should go to her or leave her alone. Either way, tension was already bubbling in my chest."Who did this to you?" She asked. This time her voice held more weight. Cullen opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. The injuries on his body weren't from Kyrell's punches, they were fresh wounds. He was healing slowly, which is surprising for a beta."I can't believe they injected you with wolfsbane." Mira snarled. Wolfsbane? Cullen slowly lifted his head to scan the room, and when his eyes found mine, something flashed across them. Before I could tell what it was,

Kyrell Third person povKyrell stood in front of the full length mirror in his walk-in closet buttoning up his shirt. Nyx povIs there a limit to the weird things that can happen to me? Moon goddess, just give me a break already.
