Chapter 1

Escaping cruelty

Joanna's POV;

I had only decided to take a rest in the forest under the trees when I heard them once again, my pursuers. My feet were soiled with the soil, battered and stained with my blood. It's been two months but this race was never ending.

Sighing repeatedly, I stared up at the sky which was starting to turn dark. Time? I no longer had a connection with time as everyday was a race that had no ending. The streams of tears that had stained and dried on my cheeks weren't to be recounted. My body ached,my feet ached, my bones were weak and even my wolf had closed herself away from me. I had missed the voices of humans as it had been two treacherous months been alone in a forest, running away from my pursuers while protecting the tiny bump in my stomach.

I closed my eyes, hoping to get few minutes of sleep but the slight creak among the forest sounds jolted me awake.

Without further ado, I picked up my duffel bag and began running as fast as my leg could carry me.

The pounding behind me further invograted my fighting spirit. I wanted to live again. If not for me but then for my baby. I was never going back to the place that haunted me.

"Get her! She isn't far from us!" I heard one of them yell. I couldn't increase my pace as my feet were very sore. Changing into my wolf form wasn't an option as my wolf itself hadn't appeared in two months ever since I ran away from our destined one, our mate to be precisely.

With my throat in my mouth, I kept on running, hoping once again that I'd be left alone. Despite knowing it was a fruitless hope, I couldn't help but wish it'd happen for once.

The sky had grown darker and my breathing erratic. It was getting hard to see in the dark and I knew it would only be a matter of time before I was caught. No! I didn't want to go back there again. It was hell for me! Being tortured and used by your mate was something I wasn't willing to experience again.

"Stop!" I heard them yell.

"Would you have stopped if you were me?" I couldn't resist shouting back at them. Although, it was stupid of me but I was beyond pissed, tired and hungry.

I tried stopping the tears that were threatening to spill out of my eyes. I couldn't afford to cry now when my pursuers were just behind me.

For the first time in months, I felt luck was on my side when I saw a huge tree ahead me. The tree had a hole at the side that was large enough to contain me.

Not waiting a second longer, I immediately held onto the tree and hid in it for my dear life. I held my breath and immediately drank a sip of liquid from the tiny bottle in my hand. This bottle was my life saver because without it, I'd have long been captured back to hell again.

The liquid was used in masking my scent, making it unable for anyone to tell where I was.

I heard their voices close to me and immediately closed my eyes, tightly holding on to my bag for my dear life.

"Where is she?! She was just here seconds ago!" I heard one of them yell, making me flinch as I covered my mouth. I badly wanted to scream and curse out loud. As I turned, I realized my white long wavy hair had managed to slip out of the tree hole, directly calling out to my pursuers that 'here I am!'.

Damn this hair! Cutting it was never an option ever since I noticed the more I cut it, the longer it grew. The color of my hair had been a major source of my problem. I was called 'weird' by everyone who I came across. No one was willing to come near me because they deemed me unfit and unworthy of their attention.

It all became worse after my 'choosing' day. It was the day where females were to be splitted and tested to know which category in the pack they belonged to. I had never had the best life or care but I had hoped to be one of the chefs in the pack house. The heavens seemed to have mocked me that day when it all ended up worse.

"She's here!" I heard one of them yell making my eyes widen in horror. Once again, I cursed my hair as I immediately sprung out of the tree, running for my dear life.

Judging by the continuous pounding behind me, I knew they were not far from me and I cursed my hair again. It had been a pain in the ass. Packing it into a bun wasn't an option as my hair seemed to have a life of its own. It refused to be cut and packed together. I had grown tired of doing these things and had let it be.

Breathing raggedly, I kept on running, staring up ahead me and praying a trace of light be seen. That for sure would give me hope.

My feet had stopped running, it was tired but my soul wasn't. I stared up ahead and immediately caught a glimpse of a shiny light ahead. All hope which seemed to have been lost was immediately regained.

My feet seemed to have gotten back its energy as it began running faster than before. That shiny light ahead was my only source of hope. The more I ran, the more it seemed nearer and the more I gained hope.

"Stop!"

"Never!" I yelled back as a smile played on my lips. For the first time in months, I seemed to have found hope once again and I'd do anything to cling unto it.

Soon, the light seemed so close and without further ado I ran straight towards it.

The last thing I heard before I blacked out were the screams for me to stop but I didn't!

Taken
Joanna's POV;"Ann, be strong! Be strong! No matter what it takes,be strong!" I heard someone yell."Who are you? Where are you?" I asked back. I had no idea where I was. It was void of any living thing, it seemed like I was drowned Into a dark abyss but as I stared straight ahead, there was a bright light shining. The voice seemed to be coming from there but the more I moved closer to the light, the farther it seemed."You don't need to know who I am. Be strong! It is never the end." I heard again. I couldn't tell if the voice belonged to a man or a woman but I was more concerned about what he/she meant.I felt a sharp pain on my neck making me gasp as my eyes flew open. "Wonderful!" That was the first word that came out of my mouth as I took in my surroundings. Firstly, if anyone ever told you that you'd wake up in a place where you are a stranger in after losing conciousness, you were lied to! A total lie! Here I was, once again, staring at the familiar cell I was put in the day

Heartbreak
Joanna's POV;Despite all he did to me, I couldn't help getting attracted to him! I curse the mate bond! His features were forever in my head. His black hair, black orbs, thick eyebrows, pointy nose and his sharp jawline with his well sculpted face remained etched unto my brain. I sighed for the nth time as I watched him walk out of the cell after leaving me with a threat. He didn't have to because I was planning not to leave this cell again. Two months of running barefooted had done enough to me. I lied back on the rock hard bed and closed my eyes as I rubbed my small bump. I was thankful it hadn't began to show as it would only cause more problems for me. I couldn't bear the thought of my baby getting killed. Even if he/she would also be the daughter/son of the man that used me, I don't care as far as he/she was also my blood and flesh.I internally calculated how long Sebastian would be gone for. Judging by how happy he looked, I knew it'd take long before he arrived. Twenty

Awaiting death
Joanna's POV;I had been living with Sebastian and had also learned to accept the intimacy he was having with me at night. Though, it hurt to see him being with another woman during the day but there was nothing I could do. I was just another powerless and helpless Breeder who had no one by her side. I cursed my step father for making me go through this! He had gambled with my life and future, making my hatred for him deepen further. I was in the backyard of Sebastian's exclusive house, doing menial jobs when I heard the familiar taunts behind me. "Well..well...well, if it isn't the slut!" Mitchell, Sebastian's cousin who always found joy in hurting me spoke up first. I believed I had grown immune to her insults but it would be a lie if I said her words still weren't hurting me."What do you want, Mitchelle?" I sighed, uprooting the stems of weeds. It wasn't that the pack didn't have a gardener but this was also part of my punishment."She's so weird! Looking like a slut with her in

Saving me
Joanna's POV:Waking up to sound of keys jingling and rattling together was something I found very unpleasant for the first time in years. My ears and head throbbed painfully and I felt like they were about to bleed. No one ever told me that pregnancy was this hard."SSS."The sound of someone hissing was enough to make my eyes fly open as I stared vigilantly in the dark dungeon. Thankfully, I was able to see clearly in the dark this time. Standing before me was the young man I wasn't expecting for once. "What're you doing here?" My voice was meant to come out as a whisper but sounded like I had been dipped in shit and was dehydrated for years."Shhhh," The guard, whom had been watching after me in my former cell held his finger to his lips as he stretched out his hand to me. Hesitantly, I stared at him and for once in my life, I decided to take this dangerous step.I placed my hand in his and I felt his grip tighten as he pulled me to stand."I want you to be as quiet as possible.

Hormones
Joanna's POV:Remember when I said waking up to the rattling and jingling of keys was something I found unpleasant, well, I think I preferred it to being poked by sticks and fingers.I had never felt so much pain in my entire life than I currently did. It felt like I had been run over by a large truck.....My thoughts suddenly trailed off when I remembered the last thing that happened to me.Was I back in the Red moon pack? Where was I?"Do you think she's awake?" I heard an unfamiliar make voice and for a moment I wondered if I was in heaven. Had my soul flown out if me? Definitely not because I could feel the pains in my body, telling me that this wasn't a dream."Shut it, Rob! This fine specimen has been unconscious for hours after getting rammed into by our car. It's a miracle she's still alive,"Another male grumbled out and I had the urge to open my mouth and laugh out loud. I suddenly registered his words, 'fine specimen'. Was he talking about me? There was no way it wasn't me

My mate!
Sebastian's POV:My mate, she was my mate! This was the only thought I had ever since I surveyed the area within the border after the white haired lady I believed was supposed to be my sex slave left. The drop of her blood on the floor within the area was enough to give me this understanding. I was confused, tired and frustrated which I had never felt in my entire life. I had been brought up by my father to be able to earn the name I was called. I had always been thinking of different scenarios where I'd get to meet my mate but I didn't expect her to be gone just as fast as she came and I had no idea about it. If Joanna was my mate, then, who was Chloe, the woman who had claimed to be my mate? At that moment, I knew I had been fooled by her because I had been too blind to overlook the lack of sparks anytime our body touched. With Joanna, the only thing I felt was a tingling sensation which did things to me but I had never felt the sparks. Despite this, I was sure she was my ma

Hiding the truth
Joanna's POV:When would it ever stop? Time and time again, I had been waking up by the worse possible means ever but each time, it gets worse than me."Haaaa," Screaming out my lungs, I jumped off the bed I laid on as I held my chest in pain. The pain shooting all over my body was a pain I never believed was possible. The pain shot from my chest to my whole body and I felt like I was being crushed.I didn't realize when three people burst into the ward until I felt their hands on me, shaking me to reality."Hey, hey, what's wrong with you? Doctor! Do something!" In my hazy state, I heard his panicky voice. I badly wanted to comfort him but from my state, I knew that was impossible. I didn't know for how long the pain lasted but I knew the doctors were unable to do anything to stop it. "Something is wrong with her? This isn't normal. We need to call the pack's doctor, Ian," I heard one of them say."Is anything about her normal? Does her appearance look normal to you?" Listening to

Unknown voices
Joanna's POV: Tears streamed down my face as I thought about Sebastian sleeping with someone else. What more was I expecting? I sighed, trying to blink back my tears but all to no avail.I heard receding footsteps and tye sound of the door opening as the men walked out of the room, leaving me all alone. I knew it was safe to cry despite telling them I didn't know who my mate was. No werewolf would take the story of their mate sleeping with someone else lightly even when they were yet to interact."You'll be fine. I give you the permission to stay in my pack till you are ready to leave. Your baby would not be separated from you even after birth. Welcome to Blue moon pack," His cold breath hit my ear as he whispered into it. My body went stiff momentarily as my eyes widened in shock. I didn't hear him walk out of the room as I was lost in thought. The Blue Moon pack? The number one rival of Red moon pack? The enemy of the man who used me? Wow!! I couldn't help but jump in joy, thank

The past
Unknown POV:Upon listening to what the white haired lady said, Alasdair, Micah and Mark all exchanged glances, their eyes widening in surprise.Of course, they knew whom that voice belonged to but they didn't just expect the lady they had saved to hear it. There had been some hidden secrets in their pack which never got out. Among them all, Alasdair was the most surprised one. As the Alpha of the second largest pack in the country, he also didn't see that coming."Who are you?" The question slipped out of his mouth before he could stop it.The soft gasps of Micah and Mark could be heard but Alasdair paid them no heed as he was more concerned about the white haired lady who caught his attention. Joanna pretended not to hear his question. She seemed to have figured out that she wasn't supposed to hear that voice and now, she was going to be tagged as a weird person once again."Don't worry, it's fine. Take a warm shower and go to sleep. Tomorrow morning, I'll be introducing you to t
