“Dr. Cody Nickelson?” Naisha exclaimed aloud in shock, moving her head between us, her eyes widened like a soccer ball.
“Luna. Thanks for being the witness of our happy union.” Cody thanked her formally, with no sincerity in his voice as he was looking down at her.
“H… h… how can you marry her? Sh… she is an omega.” Cody shrieked so loud that the impact of her voice rattled whatever ornaments the bureau had hanging here and there.
“Did you bring the medicine?” I asked her coldly, not bothered by her outburst.
“This is not going to happen. You can’t marry her, Dr. Nickelson.” She continued shrieking in anger and disbelief.
“Whom I am going to marry is my business, Luna Naisha. I don’t need your advice. Let’s finish this so that I can take my wife and mother-in-law out of this pack.” I was surprised by Cody’s tone.
He had always been gentle towards me, but I knew that he was an alpha blood.
He suppressed it like me, but an alpha can’t suppress his aura completely.
But this was the first time that I heard him speaking so rudely to anyone, let alone to the Luna of a pack.
“Did you bring the medicine or not, Luna Naisha?” I asked her impatiently, masking my surprise immediately as we were running out of time.
Both I and Cody brought our cars, and Mom was now lying in the back seat of Cody’s SUV. That car was more spacious than my Chevrolet. The front was still broken because of the accident last night.
“To hell with that medicine, sl*t. How can you be so lucky th… that you are marrying an alpha now?” Naisha continued screaming like a banshee, stomping her feet like a child of 5 to 7 years throwing a tantrum, her facial features twisting weirdly because of the anger.
“That’s none of your business, Naisha. You want to be gone, and I am here. Just give me the medicine and the papers, sign as the witness, and I will give you back the pack-severance papers with no way back here.” I replied to her sternly, almost on the verge of bursting at any time.
“F**k that. You will sign the papers and get out of the pack.” She screamed, and my face went cold immediately.
I took a step forward in her direction. We were standing at the main entrance steps of the bureau. People were coming in and out, glancing in our direction with different expressions on their faces.
“I am sure that you have already seen what happened in the bar, Luna. If….. If you refuse to give me the medicine, I assure you that you will be the Luna in power, but Keith will only be mine.”
I didn’t mean to threaten her, but I can’t let her play with my mother’s life at any cost.
She growled aloud at me, ready to scratch my face with her claws, but Cody growled back, putting his hand on my shoulder protectively.
“Do what you promised her, Naisha. Keith is still sleeping. Escalate this, and then we will wait for him to wake up.” Cody threatened her coldly this time.
Xyla snarled aloud at the back of my mind too but calmed down under Cody’s domineering presence.
Naisha stumbled backward, almost losing her footing, but Ruby caught her from behind.
“Let’s finish this, Luna. He is about to wake up at any time.” Ruby whispered to Naisha in her ear, but I heard her clearly.
I really didn’t understand why Naisha was angry.
She was already marked by Keith, and it’s not like they didn’t have s*x together. They already had.
Don’t tell me that she also had her eyes on Cody?
Please…. I don’t want to think a single bad thing about my best friend.
Naisha was now breathing heavily; her chest was rising and falling rapidly.
If looks could kill, I would have been buried ten feet under the ground.
Cody pulled me closer to him, showing his protectiveness towards me.
It was his status as an alpha that Naisha didn’t touch him when he let my mother stay in his room in the hospital or give her some basic medicines and treatment free of cost.
I felt safe in his embrace.
I tilted my head a little, staring at Naisha coldly, challenging her in the process of testing my patience.
I endured everything because I didn’t want to be in the limelight.
I didn’t mean that I would endure everything endlessly.
“Fine.” She snarled, ragging badly.
I smirked sarcastically and looked at Cody.
To my surprise, he was also staring at her with a cold gaze.
“Let’s go.” I whispered to him, putting my hand on his chest to calm him down.
He just nodded once; his gaze was still locked on Naisha.
I didn’t know the whole situation between Cody and his family, and I never asked him before.
But now I know that I need to know everything about him.
If it’s only about me, then I don't need to pay much attention until I need to remove the pendant.
But my mother was me.
I can’t put her life in danger.
“Here.” Ruby spoke to me coldly. I looked at her coldly and saw her holding a package out.
Cody took the package from her before I could even raise my hand.
I simply pulled my hand back, trusting Cody completely.
He checked the package and looked at me. He gave me a curt nod.
I was so relieved that I staggered a little, but he held my hand and intertwined our fingers.
“Sign these papers now.” Ruby demanded coldly while taking an envelope out.
Naisha was still throwing daggers at me through her eyes.
“I am a woman of my word, Ruby. Once you and Luna Naisha (I added a hint of sarcasm in my tone) sign as the witnesses of our marriage.” I replied to her indifferently, keeping my face expressionless.
She glared hard at me, anger and hatred evident in her gaze, but I just passed a fake and flat smile before looking at Cody.
We both moved towards the entrance of the office where we needed to register our marriage.
"I am not a part of this farce, Hazel. I understand that this is the easiest way to get treatment for our mother, but don't expect more than that from me. Cody is a good friend, but I still believe that the goddess will give us a second chance." Xyla cleared her stance in this matter coldly.
She was still heartbroken over my rejection, but she didn't blame me. After going through my memories, she learned what he did to us and what he wanted to do.
So, she was heartbroken, but just like me, she had no regret in that matter.
"I know, Xyla, and trust me. Cody is a good friend to me too. Nothing more than that," I assured her while walking towards the office.
For the next half hour, we calmly filled the form, provided our credentials, and finished the whole process of registering the marriage.
Bitterness crept into my heart when the registrar announced us husband and wife.
But as I said earlier, I had no regret about this decision if it meant keeping my mother alive and in peace.
I took the envelope from Ruby after we got our marriage certificate.
To my relief, Naisha and Ruby were calm and silent all the time, giving me a weird sense of peace.
That was welcoming.
"Now, get out of the pack, and don't ever come back." Naisha barked while snatching the papers from me.
"Trust me, Naisha. I never want to come anywhere near this pack, let alone cross the border. Just keep your mate (against sarcasm) away from me.... as far as possible." I didn't hide my disdain and hatred towards them and this pack.
"Let's go." Cody spoke to me, taking my arm.
I smile flatly at Naisha. "Goodbye, Naisha." I gave my head a jerk while throwing a mocking gaze at her and walked towards my car.
Hazel’s P.O.V. (Continued)I told Mom everything that happened in the hospital. She was I deep sleep and couldn’t hear a thing. So, I didn’t hide anything and even told her about my injuries. It felt good after speaking everything.“It really hurt, Mom. Yuna said that ba*tard hurt my bone. I am angry, but it’s not his fault. He is sick.” I mumbled to him while rubbing my mother's palm on my cheek.I didn’t want to leave the job, not because this was my first full-time job, but because I actually wanted patients like Jeff to recuperate quickly and go back to their loved ones. Not all of them are monsters. Most of them are victims of circumstances like Jeff.I looked at the door when it opened and Cody entered cautiously.“She is still sleeping.” I told him while putting mom’s hand on the bed.“So, vent everything out already?” he asked me teasingly, and I glared at him.He chuckled while taking the chair. I was still sitting at the edge of the bed.“I discussed the treatment plan that
Hazel’s P.O.V. (Continued)“Why are you here?” Alexander asked her angrily before she could enter the room completely. I pursed my lips into a thin line and glanced at Cody.He had an expressionless face now, but he slowly lowered his head. She didn’t answer him immediately, nor did she seem offended by his questioning. She slowly closed the door and walked towards me, holding her head as an alpha’s daughter should do.“Your father wants us to cultivate our relationship. How do we do that if we don’t meet and spend time together?” She questioned calmly, stopping in front of Alexander on our side of the table.I tightened my grip on my hands and lowered my eyes. She was his chosen mate, a perfect marriage partner chosen by Alpha Henry.Suddenly, I felt like running out of this room.“Hey, Hazel. I heard that you were attacked this morning. Are you okay?” I looked at Janet and smiled tightly.“I am fine, Ms. Wilson. Thanks for asking.” I answered politely, but she smiled sweetly.I didn
Hazel’s P.O.V.The second incident in the hospital..Once again, a level 3 patient lost control and seriously injured a nurse…By finishing the round with Cody and experiencing the violent behavior of Jeff, I had accepted the fact that it would be the common occurrence here, and it will be better for me if I accept this as soon as possible. So, I wasn’t surprised or scared when I heard about the second attack. What shocked me the most was Alexander’s presence and his behaviour when he called my name before seeing that nurse. Then he hugged me.His body was shaking badly, and his heartbeat was running a marathon.I could feel that. I could feel his emotions perfectly.Blame the mate bond for that, but I instinctively hugged him lightly, only to comfort him and his wolf. His wolf, Velan, was also scared."Thank Goddess, you are safe." he mumbled repeatedly while holding me tightly. His voice was still shaking. I felt safe in his embrace.I felt overwhelmed by his worry and fear for me a
Alexander’s P.O.V.Only I knew what it took me to keep myself calm all the way to the hospital. The person who mind-linked me earlier reported me every two minutes, but those two minutes were like hell. And the time that we took to reach the hospital was like an eternity.“You should have marked her that night. This way, we could have sensed the changes in her emotions at any time.” Velan continued grumbling the same thing restlessly during the whole ride.I wanted to yell at him, but he wasn’t wrong.I hated her for not waiting for me and choosing Cody. But I also loved her deeply, goddess!!!!!That hurt like hell.I was on pins and needles all the time until we reached the hospital.I jumped out of the running car and dashed towards the entrance without thinking much. All I could think about was her.Is she the one who was attacked? Is she okay? Is she badly injured? Why the hell do they let her go to difficult wards? My breath hitched, and I stopped in my tracks abruptly when a ver
Hazel's P.O.V.After a routine check for four patients in the same room, Cody and I went to a single room. Most of them were in a stable condition and took their medicines obediently, cooperating during the check-up.It was a good relief for me, though.Working here is not that bad. I went through a few patients' files with Cody and understood that most of them were victims of circumstances.Still, I was cautious. After what happened earlier, I didn’t want to put my life in danger at any cost.“This is our last patient. Your shift will end, and you can go to meet your mom." Cody spoke to me casually while going towards the last room.“What about you?” I asked him in a concerned tone.“I still have a few cases to discuss with the doctor’s panel, and after that, I need to go to the hospital for two surgeries. But don’t worry. I will join you and Mom for dinner.” He explained his schedule in the same manner.I nodded in understanding. Being a doctor is not that easy.I opened the door fo
Hazel’s P.O.V. (Continued)I felt as if the air in my lungs had been knocked out by the force of the collision and the weight of the person who fell on me, sandwiching me between the floor and her body.I couldn’t even breathe for a few seconds. She snarled angrily, but most of the people around us screamed in fear.I heard an angry growl and heavy and unsteady footsteps coming towards us.I felt something dripping on my neck. The sticky feeling made me shudder, but I acted quickly, ignoring the pain in my body.I wrapped my hand around her body and flipped our bodies, rolling on the ground to get away from that mad man.“I kill you.” He roared while coming towards us.“Run, Hazel. Don’t be reckless.” Yuna moaned painfully while rolling with me.“You are hurt.” I whispered and tried to take her away, but we weren’t fast enough. My eyes widened in horror when I saw him extending his claws while lunging towards us.“Yuna.” I screamed in horror and immediately pushed Yuna away from me wi
