STORY 1- Pucking My Stepbrother

last update Veröffentlichungsdatum: 04.06.2026 17:46:52

Blurb:

I wasn’t supposed to want him.

Kai Mercer is the golden boy of the university hockey team, disciplined, untouchable, and completely off-limits. He’s also my stepbrother. For years, we’ve lived under the same roof, pretending the tension between us doesn’t exist. I’ve spent too many nights forcing myself to look away, to ignore the way my pulse stutters when he’s near.

But pretending only works for so long.

After my boyfriend betrays me, something inside me finally snaps. I stop holding back. I stop being the quiet, easy girl everyone expects me to be. And once I let myself want Kai, there’s no going back.

He keeps telling me we can’t. That it’s wrong. That our parents can never know. But every time he pulls away, I see the truth in his eyes … he wants me just as badly. And the more he fights it, the harder it becomes to stay away.

I’m done being the good girl.

And I’m done pretending I don’t want my stepbrother to ruin me.

Prologue

POV Isla Bennett Mercer

I used to be good at pretending.

It was something I got good at after my dad died. I learned how to smile when I didn’t feel like it, how to say “I’m fine” even when I wasn’t, and how to shrink myself so I wouldn’t make things harder for anyone else.

After Mom remarried, I got even better at it.

I became the quiet stepdaughter who didn’t cause problems, the girl who kept her head down and didn’t ask for too much.

Living with Kai only made it harder.

He wasn’t loud or arrogant like most of the hockey guys on campus. He was steady. Responsible. The kind of person who remembered to change the lightbulb in the hallway without being asked and who always made sure I got home safe when I stayed out late.

People at school called him the golden boy, the captain who never missed practice, never got in trouble, and somehow still managed to keep his grades up.

But none of them knew what it was like to live with him.

They didn’t know how it felt to sit across from him at dinner every night, pretending I didn’t notice the way his jaw tightened when our eyes met for too long. They didn’t know how many times I had to look away when he walked around the house shirtless after practice, or how often I caught myself wondering what his voice would sound like if he ever stopped being so careful around me.

I told myself it was nothing. A stupid crush. A phase. Something I would eventually grow out of.

But then there were the nights.

The nights when the house was quiet and I couldn’t sleep. The nights when I would lie in bed and think about the way he looked at me sometimes like he was fighting something he didn’t want to name. Those nights were the worst. Because on those nights, pretending stopped working.

I would close my eyes and imagine what it would be like if he ever stopped fighting it. If he ever let himself want me the way I secretly wanted him. If he ever stopped being the perfect stepbrother and just… let go.

I hated myself for thinking about it.

Kai had always been good to me. Protective. Patient. He never crossed the line, never gave me any real reason to believe he felt the same way.

And still, I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t stop wondering. Couldn’t stop hoping. Couldn’t stop feeling like there was something burning quietly between us that neither of us was brave enough to touch.

So I kept pretending.

I smiled at family dinners. I made small talk in the hallways. I acted like my heart didn’t race every time he said my name. I told myself that wanting him was wrong, that it would pass, that I just needed to try harder.

But some things don’t pass.

Some things only get stronger the longer you try to bury them.

And I was starting to realize that no matter how good I was at pretending… I was running out of time.

Because the truth was getting harder to ignore.

And one day soon, I wasn’t going to be able to pretend anymore.

I threw the blanket off, yanked on the first clean clothes I could find—black jeans, a soft pink t-shirt that still smelled a little like rain—and shoved my feet into sneakers. My pixie hair was a mess, sticking up in every direction, but there was no time to fix it. I grabbed my bag, phone, and jacket then bolted downstairs.Kai was already in the kitchen. He stood at the counter in a black t-shirt and sweatpants, hair still damp from a shower, making coffee like nothing had happened last night. The second he saw me, his eyes softened… then darkened when they landed on the faint mark on my neck that the t-shirt didn’t quite cover.“You’re late,” he said quietly.“I know.” I didn’t look at him. “Sarah’s already texted three times. Exam’s in twenty minutes.”He set the coffee mug down. “I’ll drive you.”I hesitated.Part of me wanted to decline his invitation. I could have taken the bus, walked, called Sarah, or done anything that wouldn’t leave me alone in a car with him after last

Kai jolted like I’d just shocked him with electricity straight to his chest.“Isla… I… I…”I bit my lip, watching him stumble over his words. Here he went again with that stupid hesitation that always left me feeling confused and embarrassed. The rain was still pouring outside, but the storm inside the car felt even louder.“Stop embarrassing yourself, Kai,” I snapped, my voice cracking. “If you don’t mean it, don’t even start!”I unbuckled my seatbelt in one quick motion and rushed out of the car, rain soaking me instantly. I didn’t care. The cold droplets mixed with the hot tears stinging my eyes as I ran toward the house.“Isla, wait!”I heard Kai screaming behind me, but I didn’t stop. My feet pounded up the stairs, straight to my room. I slammed the door shut and locked it, leaning against the wood, breathing hard. This silliness had to end here. This heartbreaking, foolish wanting for my stepbrother… it had to stop, whatever it took!I slid down to the floor, hugging my knees t

"Kai, please pick me up."The words slipped out before I could stop them. I didn't reply to Kai's messages with another text. Instead, I called him, clearly out of my mind. I didn't even know why I asked him that. Maybe because he was the only one who had ever really been there for me, even when things were messy. Or maybe... because deep down, no matter how angry I was, Kai still felt like home. My only rescuer right now.The line went quiet for a second."I'm coming," he said, voice rough but immediate. "Stay where you are. I'll be there in ten."I hung up and stood outside Asher's building, the cool night air hitting my skin. My legs felt shaky. The hickey on my neck throbbed like a reminder of how close I'd come to making a huge mistake. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to hold it together. Then the sky opened up.Rain poured down suddenly, heavy and cold, soaking me in seconds. The streetlights blurred through the downpour, turning everything gloomy and gray.Perfect. Jus

Asher stopped immediately, but his hands stayed on my waist with thumbs stroking my skin like he couldn't quite let go. His eyes were dark and his lips swollen from kissing me. For a second he looked disappointed, but then he gave me that charming smile, the one that probably got him into a lot of beds."Hey, no rush," he said with a husky voice. "We can take it slow. I'm not going anywhere." I knew I should pull away, but my body was betraying me. I rocked against him slowly, feeling how hard he was already. "Asher..."He groaned, hands moving higher, thumbs brushing the underside of my breasts. "That's it. Just like that. You're so fucking sexy, Isla. I've wanted this since I first saw you with the new hair."He pulled me back into his lap anyway, hands sliding down onto my thighs. I felt the heat pool between my legs as his fingers brushed my bare skin near my clit."Fuck, you feel good," he murmured while moving his hands straight to my core. I jolted, my toes curling. This was

  • Steamy Ice Cold Hockey Romance (Compilation)   STORY 1- HEAT

I really didn't want to go home, but I had no other place to go. Sarah, my bestie, was on vacation with her parents in Paris. And she was the only one I had right now."Hey, you okay?" Asher asked, glancing at me while driving. We were in his car. From the moment we left campus, Asher had taken me driving around the city to clear my head. I couldn't agree more."Yeah, I'm good but just... um... not wanting to go home," I admitted.Asher smirked. Somehow, that smirk was creeping me out in the best way possible."Wanna come to my place? I live nearby." He offered. We were at 8th Ricky Road. Close enough to my home anyway, but I really didn't want to go back and get the silent treatment again from Kai."You okay with that?" I asked."Totally." We then went to his apartment. It was just a few blocks away, and we arrived quickly. Asher's apartment was on the top floor of a modern building with big windows overlooking the city. It smelled like fresh laundry and something spicy, probably h

  • Steamy Ice Cold Hockey Romance (Compilation)   STORY 1- MY CHOICE

Kai took another dangerous step forward, his voice dropping to a low, threatening growl. "This isn't a game, Asher. She's off limits. You know that." Asher's smirk only grew, slow and cocky, the kind of grin that probably scored him goals and girls off the ice. He didn't remove his arm from my shoulder. Instead, he drew me closer with a smooth tug, his strong hand sliding down to rest at the small of my back, fingers pressing lightly against my skin in a touch that felt both protective and deliciously possessive. "Oh, I know the rules, Captain. But rules are made to be broken when the prize looks this good. And from where I'm standing, Isla doesn't look like she wants to be off limits right now." Kai's expression turned thunderous, fists tightening at his sides. "You're pushing it, winger." Asher chuckled, low and unbothered, like he was enjoying every second of winding up his captain. "Am I? Or are you just mad that she's smiling with me instead of running back to you?" The riva
