Dr. Samantha Lopez, on the other hand, is a grounding force in Damon’s world a character I hold very close to my heart. She is intelligent, principled, and unyielding. Samantha refuses to bow to authority just because it’s dangerous or powerful, and it is precisely this unwavering spirit that draws Damon’s attention and fuels the story’s tension. She is not a passive character swept along by events; she is active, strong, and fully aware of the risks she faces.

In writing Samantha, I wanted to challenge the traditional “damsel in distress” trope that sometimes appears in dark romances, and instead create a heroine whose courage and independence are her defining traits, even when faced with overwhelming danger.

This story is firmly in the dark romance and mafia romance genres, so I want to give you a gentle heads-up: the themes here include obsession, power dynamics, and situations where the line between protection and possession is blurred. Damon’s desire is not gentle. His obsession is consuming.

Samantha does not initially return his feelings she actively resists him. The tension, the push-and-pull, and the psychological intensity of their relationship are central to the story.
