So far, everything was going exactly how I wanted.

Thanks to the pack doctor, my plan had been flawless. I paid him handsomely to tell Liam I was having complications with the pregnancy. I knew he had a heart — no matter how angry or distant he was, he would never allow a child to die. Especially not his.

Each visit he made was proof of that. The way his eyes softened when he looked at my stomach… I knew guilt was eating him alive.

This morning, he showed up again, holding a small bag of fruits and baby things. I smiled sweetly, acting fragile.

“Liam… you didn’t have to come,” I whispered, lowering my gaze. “You’ve done more than enough already.”

He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’m just making sure you’re okay. The doctor said you needed rest, and the baby—”
