Chapter one
I sat at the bar, nursing my drink in my hands. It was rowdy, but I couldn't deny I needed the distraction. It had been two years since I left New York.
“Hi. Mind if I join you?” I looked up to find the most beautiful man I had ever set my eyes on.
“Sure, it's supposed to be a free world” I shrugged, trying to act non-chalant, when I was anything but that.
He sat down on the stool beside me, never taking his gaze from my body. I couldn't deny that I loved his attention on me. I felt my skin burn with intense desire for this stranger.
“I'm Elijah. You seem a little bit out of it” he said.
“I'm fine. It's just the loud noise” I responded, averting my eyes from his hypnotizing ones.
“You're at a bar. You should expect this.”
“Hmm,” was my only response.
“I didn't catch your name” he said.
“I never told you…” I hesitated, unsure of how much I should reveal to him. “Maya”
I looked at him, and just then I saw something flash in his green orbs. But it quickly went away as soon as it came.
“You look better than I imagined” he murmured, and if I hadn't been close enough and paying attention to every detail of him, I wouldn't have heard him.
“Sorry? Do you know me because I'm sure I haven't met you before”, I scowled slightly.
“No, I don't. I was talking about something else” he smiled, showing off his perfect dentition.
“What brings you here tonight?”, he asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity like I was that interesting. I wasn't…I was nothing more than a coward. Elijah didn't know this, and I should stay far away from him. But his eyes, his face, they did something to me. I could already feel the wet patches on my panties.
“I just needed to get out of my house. I needed space”, I shrugged, taking a sip of my margarita.
“Hm, I understand. Responsibilities can be suffocating” he nodded, his fingers making trails on the tequila glass. My eyes followed the trails. I wanted to be that glass, badly.
“You don't look like someone who's suffocated” I said to him.
Elijah smirked. “ You'd be surprised at the many things I'm capable of feeling” his eyes glinted, hinting at something.
I eyed him the same time I felt his eyes moving up my body in a seductive way. I knew he knew I could also feel the sexual tension between us. I hadn't had sex in more than a year, and right now my body badly craved a man. A strong and fit man like Elijah.
And then, without warning, he kissed me. I almost fell across the stool, but his large hands quickly grabbed the small of my waist. His lips were just as soft as I imagined, sending sparks across my body. So this was what he tasted like…whiskey and red signs.
I loved it.
I pushed him off me, gasping for breath I didn't know I needed a minute ago.
“What are you doing?” I continued to gasp, a glare pointed his way.
“You wanted it. You were asking for it”
“I didn't ask for anything!” I whispered loudly, if that was even possible.
“Your eyes did. Your lips called out to me” he said, grabbing my jaw softly. As one of his fingers trailed down my neck, my body shuddered.
“Tell me you don't want this…tell me you are not begging for me to be buried deep inside you because I want to” his eyes never left mine as he continued to torture me with his callous finger. I knew we were in a public place, but at that moment, Elijah was the only one I could see and feel. “You smell heavenly”. I felt the tip of his nose under my ear.
“F*ck” I swore. I can't describe what I was feeling. I hadn't craved anybody's touch as much as I did his. The walls I had spent years building were now slowly crumbling in front of me because of this stranger. “Kiss me” I whispered finally.
“I've been wanting to hear that all night” he said, not wasting a moment before his lips crashed on mine again.
Too quickly, Elijah released his lips from mine. I released a sigh of disappointment. I wanted more…
“Want to get out of here?” He asked, his pink lips glistening with saliva.
Do I? What would this mean? Of course, I wasn't ready to jump on any relationship at this point in my life. I was in a pivotal time in my life…
“It doesn't have to mean anything, Maya. Don't overthink it” he reassured, his hands moved up my dress, rubbing my inner thighs.
“Sure, let's get out of here”. I grabbed my bag off the table.

Elijah's condo was large, it screamed luxury.
“Do you care for anything” he asked after removing his suit jacket. I noticed the bulge of his muscles, threatening to escape the flimsy material of the white shirt.
“No_no…I'm fine” I stuttered. I felt my legs going weak.
Can we just skip to the good parts now, I thought to myself.
And just as he read my mind, he came towards me, pressing his lips on my neck. He continued to trail his wet tongue down my neck until he reached the crevice of my breast. I felt I would orgasm at that point, but I couldn't spoil the fun. It was just too early.
I could feel his hard length on my thighs.
With a squeal, I felt myself being carried like I had no mass. He continued to carry me until he opened the door to a large room. He dropped me on the bed, his eyes taking in my half naked body. I hadn't even noticed my dress was no longer on my body.
“You're breathtaking” he whispered as I felt his hand at my entrance.
“F*ck Elijah”, I rolled my eyes to the back of my head as he thrust his fingers into me. “I'm so close” I cried.
“No princessa. You don't cum until I say you do, understood?” he commanded. I could feel his audacity from the way his gaze never left mine and, like the naughty girl I was, I obeyed.
“Yes sir”
The next morning I woke up with a horrible headache. Elijah's hand pressed on my stomach, preventing me from moving. I wondered how much he weighed.
Slowly the events of last night crashed in my mind. The euphoria I felt. I smiled at how many times he had begged for my body and how I never denied him once. Elijah was a beast in bed, a beast that made me almost obsessed with the idea of waking up to his mouth on me every morning.
But that obsession quickly vanished when I remembered he hadn't used any form of protection.
“Shit!”
Elijah's pov“Elijah, there's something you really need to see.” I hear Vikram speak into the phone, his voice tinged with a slight annoyance. My jaw twitch, wondering what next he had found about Maya.Vikram is my personal investigator who had showed me that Maya was the woman who had killed my mother three years ago, and ran away like nothing happened.I didn't just take his words for it. Her innocent face, they didn't look like someone's that would pull a trigger in someone's head, much less someone they had worked for, for over five years. And so I ordered Vikram to redo his investigation again and again, and to find more proof. And at the end of the day, all evidence pointed to her. She didn't just kill my mother, Maya stole her assets, ran away, thinking no one was watching her.I vowed to myself to make her pay for everything she did to my mum. “Come to the office,” I responded back into the phone, my voice gruff around its edges.Lizzy Volkov, was my biological mother, and t
"Why do you keep staring at me that way? You think I'll confess to a crime I didn't commit if you stare hard enough?” I asked coldly, my body launched lazily on the sofa, eyes distant. My voice feels too sore like I haven't talked for the part three months, and that's not a complete exaggeration. I've been literally mute for the past two weeks since Elijah brought me back home from the hospital.I could feel my life slipping away day by day, there was no essence for living anymore, and I hated how a night of pasion made me into this. I should have known better…trusting a man.Elijah stares at me, his expression unreadable. Gray eyes like steel with an intensity locked on me, too attentive, like he was trying to read what was running through my head. “You haven't touched your food.” He pushed the plate of pasta to me, but I turn my head away from it.“Talk to me, Maya.”That one word from his lips feels like a slap. It used to send thrills down my back, but now it only opened old wound
Light sears into my eyes, a jagged blade cutting through the dark. I’m nowhere, just a void, my body is a lead weight, and my limbs like stone. A beep stabs the silence, rhythmic, close, dragging me up from nothing. Something pinches my arm, sharp, tugging. My throat’s is suddenly ash, my head a fog of half-formed shadows. Where am I?, I ask myself. The air’s wrong—sharp, cold, like metal and bleach. A hum buzzes, low, under the beep, and I blink, slow, the world a smear of white and gray.“Mrs. Tyler?” A voice, brisk, female, slices through. “Can you hear me?” I try to focus, but my eyes are heavy, the shape of her blurring—a woman, white coat, clipboard clicking. My name—Tyler—lands like a stone, familiar but distant, like it’s someone else’s. I can’t speak, my tongue a dead thing, so I just stare, my chest tight with something I can’t name.Water…“You’re in the hospital,” she says, nurse, her face sharpening, too bright for this cold place. “You’ve been in coma, a few days. You’re
Chapter 18Rain splattered Elijah’s truck, his bare chest heaving, sweat stinging his eyes. His phone pinged, a new text: Maya’s off life support. Your signature. Done. No fucking way he’d signed that. The call’s venom—“You didn’t deserve her”—looped, a taunt he couldn’t completely shake. Maya, his wife, had to be alive. He gunned the engine, city lights blurring past him.Her face clawed at him—those beautiful hazel eyes, wild when he’d locked her in with his mother’s comatose body, monitors droning out loud noises. Lizzy’s aide, Maya had sworn she’d only heard the shot, bolted in panic. Elijah, overseas then, didn’t buy it. Her tears screamed she was guilty. He’d married her to chain her, make her bleed for her sins. When she’d doubled over, pregnant with his kid, begging for help, he’d stood there, hating her, punishing her Too late to the hospital. Mother or child, they’d requested. He’d chosen Maya—not mercy, but justice. She hadn’t paid enough.fie her crimes.Ahead, red and blue
The VIP room was a shithole- it looked liked it had been used too many times by scumbags and dirty whores. But it would be enough for this night. He just needed to let off some steam. The door slammed shut as he pushed Tasha _or whatever she had called her name to be, against the door. A moan escaped from her lip as his lips found her sensitive bud underneath her flimsy clothing.“F*ck…please don't stop,” she moaned out. Trisha grabbed his head, smashing her lips against his, as his hands found the waist band of her panties. Already soaked with her juices. She clawed at his shirt, shredding it off him like a starving animal hungry for its prey. Her dress was a scrap of cheap red silk, unlike his expensive own. It was too tight, so he yanked it up, baring her half naked body to him. His hands grabbed her tits, pressing her harder to the door. “You want this, don't you?” He growled as his hands continued to rub on her nipples, eliciting a soft moan from her. She nodded, unable to spit
Maya's POVDarkness. The world around me was filled with thick darkness. It was heavy…the kind that would sink deep into your bones and then snatch your soul.Just as I was beginning to feel dizzy, a bright light shined brightly, almost blinding me.I didn't remember how I got there, but I knew immediately, I wanted to leave. Not until I saw a familiar face.“Mum,” I called out. My mum smiled at me as she drew near.“Maya, you're finally here,” she said immediately she came closer, engulfing me into a warm hug. Then I released myself from her embrace.“Where's this, mum? Why-why are you here…you're dead.” As soon as the words left my mouth, reality struck me hard in the face.If my mum was here with me, it only meant one thing.I am not a living being anymore.“Maya, you shouldn't be here. Go back home,” my mum said as she looked at me softly. Home?I realized that as I stood in this space, there was no pain, no betrayal…no Elijah.I wanted to stay here, in this place where there wa
