Chapter Sixty

Upon placing the parcel on the countertop, she proceeded to dial Lucas's number, tapping her thumb impatiently as she eagerly awaited his response. After the third ring, he finally picked up.

"Looks like you've received my package," his usual cheery tone resonated through the conversation.

"Yes, what's inside?" Emma's curiosity was greatly aroused as she gazed at the parcel on the counter.

"Go ahead and open it, I can attest that it's not a bomb," he laughed, causing Emma to join in with a relieved chuckle. She was grateful to know that the sender was someone familiar and not a stranger with mysterious intentions.

"You love me too much to kill me, I'm aware," she playfully teased back, a smile lighting up her face as she placed her phone down and proceeded to open the package.

"I won't deny that, but I know you can't bear to be without me as well," he retorted, causing Emma to break into another laugh.
