LOGINMISSY POV I sigh again before picking up my phone and calling the vet. I need to stop worrying about why Boyd hasn't called me and focus on work. I schedule the vet's visit and leave my small office. It isn't much of an office just a desk in a clean storage closet in the barn. It was originally intended to be an extra-small tack room, but every foreman Davidson has had has used it as an office. I look around and see no one, but I know I am not alone. Hank and a few others should be finishing their morning chores. "He says he will be out in a few hours," I call out into the quiet barn, knowing wherever Hank is, he can probably hear me. Two male pack members come out of the big tack room when they hear me and send me a wave before leaving the barn through the back door. Their chores for the morning must be done and their breakfast is waiting for them in the pack house. Hanging out with the grouchy foreman until the vet arrives probably doesn't sound as appealing as breakfast.
BOYD POV "Wait so you plan on taking the big accomplished bull to Gray Ranch? Why does Davidson get the young bull that hasn't proven himself? What if he throws huge calves? Is this what partnership means to you?" Missy demands to know with her hands on her hips, and the stupid dick in my pants twitches to life. Her easy-to-ignite temper is turning me on, and we don't have time for distractions. The sale lasted for a while and the yards are clearing out. Most trucks have already left with their loads. This moment is already tense for us because we are parting ways for who knows how long and all I want to do is pull her into my arms. Humans aren't like shifters. They don't pair for life. She might like me today, but she might not in two weeks. I am absolutely terrified that I have fallen for someone who won't want a lasting commitment. The bulls and where they should be going aren't important to me at all. "You want me to take the younger bull back to Wyoming, I will. Just tell me
MISSY POV "I need coffee, I need clothes... Well, we need a ride," Larry mutters, and I roll my eyes at his pissiness. "I forgot I had the truck, okay. Geez," I mumble and Hank laughs. "Boyd, is that distracting, huh?" he says, and I blush red as the memories of last night fill my mind. "Shut up," I say, and Hank only laughs louder. Larry joins in after a few seconds and I know I am forgiven. Larry can't hold back from laughter for too long. He is just too happy a guy to hold a grudge. I smile at him in the mirror and then my mind jumps back to the sale. My stress about today's prices has consumed me since I woke up cradled against Boyd's chest. I want everything to go perfectly. I want the best steer for the lowest price and I want our partnership with Gray Ranch sealed. I want Boyd to respect me as a woman and as a business partner.... Shit! I forgot to take my medication. Spending the night in the truck and then rushing back to the hotel to get ready really screwed up my
BOYD POV I smile as I look down at the blonde sleeping in my arms. Last night, after making her scream my name again, I put the horses back into the round pen, and we had crawled into the backseat of her truck to talk. She had explained her insecurities about not feeling like she was enough growing up and I had given her all the details about my failed mating. I honestly don't remember which one of us fell asleep first, but I hope it wasn't me. I don't want her to think she bored me. I had been captivated by every word, but the exhaustion from sex and stress hit me hard. "Hey Cowgirl, the sale starts soon," I say as I attempt to brush her wild hair back away from her face. Her eyes slowly crack open and I smile when she realizes she is on top of me. "Morning... Sorry. I drooled on you," she says as she gets off me and wipes her mouth. I shake my head so she knows I don't care about the drool on my bare chest. I love knowing she felt comfortable sleeping on me. "I am g
MIKE POV My phone chimes again and I stop bouncing my son just long enough to slide the annoying piece of technology out of my pocket. I need to silence it because Parker just drifted off to sleep ten minutes ago and I refuse to spend another three hours standing here bouncing him.For some reason, my son only falls asleep fast when his mother puts him to bed, but with me, it takes hours. I unlock the home screen so I can silence my phone only to get distracted by what made it chime in the first place.Stan- You might want to check on Boyd.Stan- Something is up with him.. He said he is coming home and his phone is going to voicemail.Stan- Mike, Boyd might be in trouble. I smirk as I read the last text.Boyd's in trouble all right, but it isn't the kind of trouble we have come to expect.Mike- Relax. He is having lady problems that's all. Now stop texting me, because if you wake up Parker I am kicking your human ass. I send the text, mute my phone, and throw it in the rockin
MISSY POV"Go after him," Hank says in a low voice as I stare open-mouthed at the door that Boyd just stomped through. "What? Why did he leave like that? Is he mad," I ask before it dawns on me that I just said I would be staying in Davidson no matter what. Boyd and I didn't declare ourselves to each other last night, but I felt the connection. I felt his walls come down. He gave a part of himself to me, and then I undersold what happened between us to calm Larry down. "Shit, yeah okay," I say before I snatch the truck keys out of Larry's hand. I grab my boots and run from the room.I don't know how our relationship will unfold, but I do know I don't want it to end after one night. Maybe we could make a long-distance thing work for a while. We could see if we are actually good together, past just the physical, then I could talk to him about joining Davidson. I know a wolf's allegiance is rarely broken and I am not his mate. His inner animal will feel more connected to his home than
