18. A little eavesdropping

Kathleen's POV

"How is she doing now?"

"I don't know. She hasn't woken up yet. Do you think we should take her to another doctor?"

"I don't think so. The doctor said she was terribly tired, and her body is recuperating right now. Not to mention she took a dagger laced with wolfsbane,"

"Then should we let her sleep? It's been 3 hours already,"

"Are you going to keep sitting here, King Alvin? You might be getting uncomfortable with the tight hug,"

"That's not the case. Don't worry about it. I agree that the grip is quite tight, but it's bearable. Besides, I am responsible for her condition," I heard King Alvin's voice again, and I squinted my brows.

Who is responsible for what? Why are they talking so loudly? I groaned before laying on my back as I opened my eyes slowly.

"What the hell is going on here? Why are you guys so loud? Is sleeping a crime these days?" I asked as I flinched at the bright light.

"Kathy, do you think we are worried because you are sleeping? We are worried because you fainted, stupid," Henry said, and I rolled my eyes.

"Fainted, my ass. I am sure you are just trying to find ways to disturb my precious sleep. Now go away. I am so comfortable here," I said before turning, closing my eyes, and hugging the pillow beside me.

Touching the stiff pillow, I squinted my eyes when I felt a little bit weird.

Why does this pillow feel like it is too sturdy?

"Kathy, can you have a little shame?" Henry sighed beside me, and I opened my eyes to retort. However, what I saw in front of me, made me back away in shock.

"Ouch!" I winced, ready to accept my fate and fall from the bed as I jerked back too abruptly, but before I could land on the ground, Henry held me, saving me from embarrassment.

"Woah. What the hell do you think you are doing sleeping with me? Do you have no shame?" I asked as I looked at Henry and uncle Christian with disbelief.

"I get that he is the king, but did you guys seriously let him sleep with me because you are afraid of him? I didn't expect that from you," I said before standing properly, looking at my hand that was healed completely.

'Caris, what happened? Why did it take so long to heal? Even though we are taking small doses of wolfsbane, we should be able to heal within a few minutes. What was the reason behind the prolonged healing?' I asked Caris, and she sighed.

'Let's talk about this later. First deal with the mess here,' She said, and I sighed before looking at King Alvin.

"You were calling some Kate in your dreams. Who is she?" King Alvin asked me, and I scrunched my brows.

"Kate? That's my mom's name. Why?" I asked, and he looked at me, confused, before evening his expression.

"Oh, anyway. I did my duty of taking your care by letting you hug me for three long hours. Now don't go around saying I am ungrateful," King Alvin said, and I scoffed.

"Responsibility, my ass. I am sure you were just taking advantage of me. Hugging me while I was asleep," I said before looking at Henry, who went out of the room before bringing inside my slippers.

"You always know what I want, don't you?" I asked before standing.

"What time is it?" I asked, and Uncle Christian sighed.

"It's around 4:30 am. You were unconscious for three hours, and we were quite worried if you were alright or not," He said, and I nodded.

"I am going to the kitchen to eat something. Henry, come with me and make me my favorite sandwiches. Also, I need full details about the ball that is going to be held in two days. How many people are we inviting?" I asked Uncle Christian, and he took out his phone.

"I have emailed you the guest list. Do let me know if you don't want someone's presence in the ball," He asked meaningfully, and I chuckled at his words before shaking my head.

"There is none like that. I want everyone to come and see me. After all, I am the star of the party, no? That's the reason I came here three days earlier. I want to be ready for the party," I said, and he nodded before patting my head.

"We'll do as our princess says," He said.

"Why do you address everything in the council chambers as yours? Is she your daughter, Christian? Someone I don't know of?" King Alvin asked, and I looked at him.

"It's not like that, King Alvin. However, she is someone even more important than my son," Uncle Christian said, and as always, Henry looked at him, feeling offended while I chuckled at his expression.

"Come on, we both know he is just joking," I said, and Henry nodded before holding my hand.

"Only you treat me nicely," He said, and we walked out of the room.

"Henry, why don't you go and make me sandwiches? I want to have some talk with this king," I said, and He ry squinted his brows.

"I hope you won't create some ruckus?" He asked, and I rolled my eyes.

"Trust me, I won't pick a fight until he provokes me," I said, winking at him, and he sighed before walking ahead.

Turning around, I walked towards the medical room and was about to enter the room when I heard King Alvin talking on the phone.

"You don't need to worry about things here. I am handling everything. Jake is assisting me. You just take care of Sharlene and find out more about this Kate girl. I don't know why, but I am curious about her even more now," he said on the phone.

"Hmmm, okay. I want all the details as soon as possible. Yes, look into all her details. Okay. I'll leave now. I want to have some sleep. No, it's just there is this girl here who is making my life a bit adventurous. Yeah, bye," King Alvin said before ending the call.

"Are you done eavesdropping on my conversation?" He suddenly asked before turning around to look at me, and I accidentally bumped into the vase, making it fall.

"Huh, who was eavesdropping? I just wanted to ask you why did you kiss me? I wasn't conscious back then, but I am now," I said, and he coughed slightly.
