Here is a new update. Sorry for the delay - my day job called me away earlier this week but we should be good the rest of this week. Hope you enjoyed the chapter - be sure to leave a comment, review, or gem to let me know what you think. Ellie xo
Carson POV We went through the darkened halls of the dungeons, the stench a reminder of the filth trapped here. I felt the rage inside me fuel my need to destroy Alpha Luke. He had brought up feelings I had long since buried and put to rest. Now they were rolling around inside my head, wondering how this could have happened. If it even did happen. We arrived at the Alpha’s cell. He was cuffed with silver to the wall, his arms above his head. It was evident that Jeff had spent some time trying to get Luke to talk. He had not been successful. Luke was stronger than I expected. Jeff is one of the best at torture, yet this bastard had not crumbled under the pressure. I walked in slowly, looking the Alpha over. He slowly lifted his head, his eyes almost swollen shut, blood dripping from various wounds on his face. He slowly smiled, “Ahh, I see you have managed to pull yourself away from that useless Omega,” he managed to taunt
Marly POV My skin was burning. I could feel the movement under my skin as Layla tried to control our shift. I felt pain everywhere; it was almost unbearable. I knew Layla had healed me. She had been talking to me softly throughout the process. The expedited healing had left me exhausted, but now I was faced with a bigger challenge. I felt Carson lift me in his arms. The touch of his skin against mine helped ease some of my discomfort temporarily. I leaned into him, needing to feel him close to me. “Hang on, sweetheart,” he murmured to me, as I felt tears sting my eyes. I did not know if I could wait much longer. I heard the doctor yelling something in the background, but Carson simply growled and continued moving forward. The fresh air as we exited the hospital helped me breathe through the next wave of pain. The forest was within feet of us now. “Put me down,” I muttered to Carson, trying to get out of his arms.
Carson POV Marly was a white wolf. She was stunning and it meant our pack was blessed. What would her special talent be? I had no idea, but I could not wait to find out. I saw Marly starting to sway in front of me. She was exhausted. I was proud of her. She had handled her shift very well. Shifting is not typically that intense. I could only assume it was because Marly was a special wolf, that the first shift took so long. I swept Marly into my arms and slowly walked back to where our clothing was. She had long since fallen asleep in my arms and I was reluctant to wake her. “Marly, it’s time to wake up,” I said softly. She let out a soft growl, which caused me to smile. My little mate, and wolf were going to give me a lot of attitude, I thought to myself. I slowly released her legs, letting them slide down my body so she was standing in front of me. She stood there swaying slightly as I grabbed my
Marly POV I quietly shut the door behind me, as I walked into the room I was currently using. I took a deep breath, as I contemplated what would happen next. I would likely be moving my room to another floor, if I am allowed that courtesy. What was a moment of joy after shifting, suddenly felt heavy and uncomfortable. I had no idea what this meant, but I knew it would change things for Carson and myself. I quickly wiped away the sting of tears that started to fill my eyes. I refused to cry over a destiny that I had known would never be mine. I had to focus on getting my courses finished and then leaving Carson and the Full Moon Pack behind. I heard a soft tap on my door and turned as I watched the door open. “Marly?” I heard Carson say before he walked into the room. I paused as he entered. “Why did you leave?” he asked me as he came closer. “I think it is best that we put some distance between us,” I stated calmly. Calme
Carson POV “Cara?” I whispered. I could not believe my eyes. The first woman I had ever loved was lying in the bed before me. The woman I had buried. The woman I had vowed would be my only love, was alive and in front of me. I saw her eyes flutter and watched in stunned silence as they opened, and she looked frantically around the room. Her eyes settled on mine, and I watched as tears filled her eyes. “Carson?” she whispered, as she moved her hand out to mine. I was reluctant to touch her. I did not know what I felt in this moment. It was so surreal to me. My first mate was alive and in the same room as me. I moved forward and slowly took Cara’s hand, bracing myself for the sparks that would bounce between us. I touched her hand, taking it into my bigger hand. I felt … nothing. No sparks, no sense of a mate bond. Nothing. I looked to Cara in confusion, to see her confused expression mirror mine. “Wha
Marly POV I had been working on my studies, trying to remain distracted while I kicked myself in the ass for not going with Carson. The truth was I was killing myself with all the what ifs. At least if I was there, I would know what was happening. I had reread this last text five times and still had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with it. I heard a soft tap on my door, and my heart leapt in my throat. Was Carson back already? I moved quickly to the door, opening it widely. My smile froze as I saw Jenna standing there. “How did you get up here?” I demanded as she stood at the door. “As Luna, I have access to all areas of this pack house,” she stated. I simply stood there, refusing to invite her into my room. After the last experience, I did not want a repeat of that. “What do you want?” I asked. “I wanted to let you know that just because you were safely returned to the Full Moon Pack, you will not take over the r
Marly POV My chest hurt. It hurt to breathe. I had known I was right and nothing would change. To everyone I was a useless Omega. Someone who did not matter. I rushed towards the door, eyeing the exit with hope. I needed to get some fresh air. Something to allow the pain to wash over me. I knew Sarah had wanted to follow me, but I had held my hand up. She had been wrong. Nobody wanted me here, and nobody would care if I disappeared. Just as I was about to reach my goal, I felt a warm hand take my arm. I instantly felt the sparks between us, and I felt betrayed. I whipped around and slammed my fist into Carson’s chest. I knew it would not hurt him, but I was angry at the circumstances. Before I could hit him again, Carson had wrapped his arms around my thrashing body and carried me to an empty room, shutting the door behind him. He simply held me while I cried in frustration. Frustration at the situati
Carson POV I took Marly’s hand in mine and led her back to the woman claiming to be Cara. We walked into the room, with Cara asking for me. She stopped asking when she saw me. Her face lit up until she saw me holding Marly’s hand. “What is this?” she whispered. “Who are you?” I countered. “Carson, you know who I am,” she replied, hurt lacing her words. “I am afraid I do not. There are no sparks between us. I spoke with an Elder who advised the only reason that would be is if you were never my mate to begin with,” I shared with her. I saw her eyes fill up with tears. “I do not understand,” she replied, as tears rolled down her cheeks. I was not immune to her pain. The woman I was looking at was identical to my first mate. I hated to see her in pain, knowing I was partially the cause. But I had to remind myself that she was somehow involved in this trickery. “I do not understand either. I am hoping yo
Marly POV I instantly saw red and before I could stop myself, I threw my hand up and tossed Aggie across the room. I could hear the faint sounds of screams, but the blood rushing through my veins was louder. I knew Carson was beside me, talking to me and holding me to keep me from doing anything else. I tried to escape Carson’s arms. I wanted to get to her and shut the bitch down. How dare she slap me? My face was stinging from the slap. I saw the King and Queen helping Aggie up from where she landed. She had crocodile tears in her eyes, and I simply smirked at her as she glared at me. “That is enough! Marly, you need to control your powers,” the King stated. I looked at him and felt a small amount of betrayal. Before I could respond, Carson did, “You need to keep your daughter in check. Marly was defending herself,” he said angrily. He turned to look at my face, “We need some ice,” he muttered, as someone came f
Carson POV It was not long before someone was tapping on our door. I opened it to find Jeff and Sarah standing there. Inviting them in, they both shook their heads in awe. “This is incredible, isn’t it?” Sarah asked Marly. “It is something,” Marly responded. She had been uneasy since we had been left alone, and we had not had time to chat about what was upsetting her. “I heard from Cole; all is good at the Full Moon Pack,” Jeff shared as he took a seat in our sitting area. I nodded, “That is good. I am curious to see if anything happens, while we are away,” I admitted. “It would be smart to make a move now, but it would flush out the traitor faster,” Jeff suggested. Nodding, “You are right. In all likelihood, nothing will happen as long as we are away,” I confirmed. Marly moved to sit in a chair by herself. Before she could sit alone, I took her arm and pulled her into my lap in the chair. She was trying to distance her
Marly POV Fortunately it was only a few hours’ drive to the palace. I felt like my stomach was churning with the nerves filling my stomach and threatening to spew out onto the floor of the vehicle. I had no idea what to expect, but I knew my life was about to change. And what that would mean I had no idea. I felt Carson’s hand squeeze mine. He had been my rock throughout the drive. Knowing when I needed to feel him touching me. Knowing when to tuck me into his body. I could not imagine my life without Carson by my side, and now with all this uncertainty I could not imagine how things would not change. How, in such a short period of time, had Carson become my world? How had I come from where I was to where I am? Thinking I would escape my old pack and start a new life elsewhere. To wanting to stay in the Full Moon Pack, with Carson by my side. Going for everything I never imagined possible for me. As I w
Carson POV I saw Marly’s lip quiver as I spoke my words. It caused me great pain, but I did my best to cover it up with fake bravery I did not feel. She was my world. How would I be able to let her go? “No, that is not an option. If you do not want me, I will leave. But I am not going with this stranger,” she stated, angrily. “Of course, I want you. I want you safe,” I said, but she had already moved away from me. The fear was coming off her body in waves. “I never said I did not want you, sweetheart,” I murmured to her, trying to take her back in my arms. She would not allow it. She was closing in on herself. Shutting me out, and I could not allow that to happen. “What if you had protection set up here for her?” I suggested to the King, looking towards him for some suggestions to make this workable for Marly. He looked to me apologetically. “I do not know how that would work. We also need to get some DNA testing don
Marly POV Before I could respond, Jenna was spitting and sputtering, “King, she is nothing more than a weak Omega!” she exclaimed. The King whipped around, “Are you implying I would not recognize my own kind when I see them?” he asked, stepping into her space. Jenna cowered, while Elder Timothy spoke up. “All royals are accounted for. None were kidnapped; how could this be remotely possible?” he inquired. The King looked to me, “I do not know, but I will find out. You will come with me young lady. It is clear you are not safe here,” he said, while I stood there in stunned silence. “You are not taking her anywhere,” Carson replied, as the King looked at him. “This royal has been kidnapped, abused, and now she deserves to find out who she really is,” he summarized as if this was the end of the conversation. I stood there for a moment, before I was shaken from my shock. “No,” I said softly. They continued ar
Carson POV I knew I should have handled Jenna better, but she had pissed me off in her assumptions. I needed to arrange a conversation with the Elders to advise I would be hosting Marly’s ceremony within the week. I knew that would come with its own challenges, but I was prepared to stand up for my mate. We went back to our room, showered and got ready for breakfast. As we were finishing, I received word that the King would be arriving within the hour. Wanting to prepare with Jeff, I looked to Marly, “The King will be here shortly. Let’s go so we can prepare for the meeting,” I suggested. Marly stood, as did Jeff and Sarah. As we went to exit the room, I saw Elder Timothy making a bee line towards me. I sighed inwardly, as I tried to avoid him. He sped up blocking my exit. “What is the meaning of this?” I asked Timothy. “You know damn well what the meaning is. Why have you shut Jenna out? As the Luna of this Pack, the
Marly POV I stretched, feeling delicious soreness between my legs. Every minute with Carson was heaven, and I was grateful to the Moon Goddess for bringing him to me. I reached over to Carson’s side of the bed and was disappointed when I felt an empty space. I opened my eyes and looked around. Carson was not here. As I was about to call out to him, the washroom door opened, and Carson walked out with a towel wrapped around his waist. With a pout, I looked at him, “I wanted to have a shower with you,” I said. Carson looked up, not realizing I was awake. He smiled as he came over and gave me a good morning kiss that curled my toes. ‘We will shower together later; I need to get to the training grounds,” he said. I looked at him, “When will I start training?” I asked excitedly, as I swung my feet out of the bed. I was a little embarrassed at being naked, but Carson came up to stand in front of me, “Never be embarrassed in fro
Carson POV I waited for confirmation from our witch, that a spell had been placed on the young Alpha. Receiving confirmation, I looked to Marly, seeing her asleep in bed. She was exhausted, and I had laid with her until she fell asleep. I shut the door to our room, and went to open the main door, allowing Jeff and Sarah to enter. “What did you find?” I asked softly. They recognized the need to be quiet, and spoke quietly as well. “Jenna and Elder Timothy are suspect; but Jenna did only visit the new mom today at the hospital. Elder Timothy tried to get in to see Alpha Maxwell, but was not permitted in,” he shared. “What does he want with the Alpha?” I considered, as we all sat down in the sitting area. “Sarah, does anything stand out to you?” I asked, knowing she had more knowledge of the Alpha. “The only thing he could want with Maxwell would be to build an alliance,” she suggested. “An alliance how?” I q
Marly POV I had fear racing through my body. I knew this was necessary, but I also knew it was going to result in more challenges. Challenges I was not prepared to face. I knew Carson was strong, and would be prepared to fight for us, but was I strong enough to fight for us as well? “You are strong enough,” Layla assured me in my mind. “What good is being able to read someone’s past, if I cannot get close enough to them?” I questioned. “Marly, seeing the past is but one of your talents. Talents grow with the person and the wolf. You need to gain confidence in your abilities. You are more than you believe you are,” she shared with me. “What does that mean?” I asked, curious about what the future held. “I cannot tell you any more than that. Just trust me and promise me that you will fight for our future,” she said, as she slipped back in my mind. As if the conversation ended, I realized we were at the hospital doors.
