“No, no, no!” Kai said as he pushed Akira away, embarrassed, “this is not what it looks like.”

Orion gave a knowing smile, “well….”

“She tried to escape and…” Kai said, still struggling to find his words.

Akira just knelt on the floor, her eyes teary at the near death experience.

She could not believe that she could do something so stupid.

If Kai did not grab her when he did, she could have been dead .

“Do you have anything to say for yourself young lady?” Orion's voice pierced her thoughts and brought her to reality.

Her response was a slow shake of her head, she was still shaken by what had just happened.

“I could have died!” She sobbed.

Orion walked up to her, kneeling with his hands on her shoulder.“Well I hoped that you learnt your lesson, if you must go anywhere, ensure you inform me first.”

“What are you saying Orion?” Kai interrupted angrily, “she tried to run away!”

“And you think that she is to be blamed for trying to run away, it is entirely your fault if your guest should attempt suicide just to escape you!” Orion fired back.

Kai was shut in an instant as those words echoed in his mind.

How was he responsible for everything that this human did?

It infuriated him.

“Come in now dear, let's have dinner, the meal is getting cold and I have this feeling that you would love the soup.”

Orion lifted Akira to her feet and led her to the table, ensuring that her seat was close and adjacent to that of Kai.

“What are you doing there looking like someone who has been kissed by a ghost?” He said to Kai, “join us.”

They all stayed at the table when Orion took a sniff of the air, “Rune?” He called out.

Kai bared his teeth in anger, he was pissed, to him, Rune had everything to do with him being in such an awkward situation.

“Where is he?” Kai barked.

“Slow down, your temper would ruin you if you're not careful!” Orion warned with a tone of finality in his voice.

“Come out Rune, come join us for dinner.”

Rune, who was terrified from his hiding place, walked out slowly.

He knew Kai well enough, they might be best friends, but it had its limits.

Kai hated a lot of things, it was high time he added whatever this was to the list of things.

“Ah!” Orion exclaimed, “there you are, join us.”

Rune took the open seat that Orion was pointing at and bent his head.

“Well…. what's everyone waiting for?” Orion asked, “Let's eat and get to know each other.”

The atmosphere was tense, with the occasional sound of cutleries coming in contact with the china their food was served on.

This went on a for a while and Akira could join longer pretend anymore

“What were those creatures that attacked me?’ she said under her breath

“What?” Kai asked, his town indicating that he would prefer her to keep quiet and let them eat their meal in peace

Undeterred, she asked again, “I said, what were those creatures that attacked me?” Her voice was more audible than the first time.

“Wait you mean houndras?” Orion asked, surprised that she could even see them.

“What did we say about not having this discussion at the dinner table?” Rune whispered..

“Let her speak And I would like some explanation.” Orion said, intrigued by this new discovery.

“She has the sight.” Kai explained.

The reaction on Orion's face was priceless, “you mean?” He asked.

“Yes, she can see us when we transform.” Kai continued, “I don't know how she does that but she does it either way”

“Is that true?” Orion asked Akira.

“I do not understand what you all are saying, I just want to know what I was attacked by,”

She took a deep breath as the images of what happened that night with her family.

“I still remember what happened that night, everyone thought that I had gone mad. No one was ready to believe that I had seen those weird creatures attack my family.”

“I am so sorry you had to go through all of that but you are lucky that you have the sight.” Orion said.

Like that offered her any consolation, she just wanted to have her life back.

“Still does not answer my questions about what those creatures are, if you will be kidnapping me here, I at least need to know why you have me here.”

“We're not kidnapping you, we have no use for a human like you, you're lucky to be eating at the same table as I am.”

“You should have let me fall back there when you had the chance,” Akira yelled, “I did not ask to be saved by you .”

“Akira calm down!”

She had had enough.

No one else was going to tell her to calm down, she's heard enough of that phrase to last her a lifetime.

“Well, if it bothers you that much I will be happy to watch you die after you've served your purpose.” Kai said.

“That's enough!” Orion ordered with the hopes of stopping things before they escalated, he was late by the way but this opened a new realm to Akira.

As much as it hurts to hear that she was being kept for being used, it was nice to find out that she was kept alive because she had a purpose.

Something that she had lacked her entire life, purpose.

“I just want you to tell me all I need to know about those creatures.” She said defeated.

Kai did not tell a lie, it was the absolute truth.

“They are called houndras…” Kai said softly, seeing how deep his words had wounded rue woman who say before him.

She was his mate after all.

“wild wolf creatures that went rogue and have been attacking the mythical Kingdom ever since.” Kai explained.

“They only kept their terror to the mythical realm until a few years ago when they made their way to the human realm.”

“I tried all I could to stop them from doing harm, but I could not do so much, they were too much, it's like they kept multiplying everyday.”

“And how do I help you stop this creatures?” Akira asked, “I would love to get done with this as soon as possible so I can get out of your hair.” She asked.

“We do not know yet, that's why you're here, you have to help us figure it out.” Orion said.

That was the last that Any of them spoke till the end of dinner.
