“Watch where you're going bitch,” a sharp voice retorted. I didn't need to look up to know who it was, I got pushed to the side, it was Vivian, pushing me away from Nolan. I looked up at him and he was quiet, his face was full of concern but it disappeared within seconds. I stared at him for a second more, hoping for something I knew very well I wasn't going to get. “I'm sorry about your mother,” he said in a deep cold voice. No one needed to point it out, he didn't even hide it, he didn't care. “Don't think I don't really know your game, Nolan is mine now, you think what has happened is going to make you get back together, well...in your dreams,” Vivian mocked as she held onto Nolan's hand, he didn't push her away, then her hand went to her abdomen as she gently rubbed it. "We are going to be a big happy family, we don't need any of your drama," she continued, her words stung, I was also pregnant for Nolan, but he didn't know, will me telling him the truth change the way he looked at me? or will he tell me to get rid of it? but that was out of the topic now, I had just lost my mother and these two had come here to flaunt their sins to me. Nolan looked at her with gentle eyes, something I rarely got, the most important person in my life was gone, and here, the one person I had trusted with my life, the one who was supposed to be comforting me, was holding another woman in his arms, I let out a bitter laugh, “you two are disgusting, you deserve each other,” I said as I darted my gaze between them. The air was getting suffocating and all I needed was to get away from them, but Vivian stood in my path, blocking me from moving past them. Vivian rolled her eyes, as if my reaction was boring to her. Nolan just stood there quietly, his eyes cold, it was obvious that he wasn't here for me, but for Vivian. Who knows, that bitch basically feigned concern about my mother's death only to come here and mock me, her main agenda was to make me suffer and she was really doing a hell of a job. My heart twisted painfully in my chest, what was I expecting, that Nolan would come and comfort me, and tell me that everything is going to be alright? that we were going to fix things and that he was going to protect me? well I was a fool to think that. I made my way past them but then someone grabbed my hand, it was Vivian, what was she up to now. “ Lily, I'm so sorry for what has happened,” her voice was laced with fake innocence that made me want to puke. “Let go of my arm,” I said with impatience as I tried to set my hand free from her grip but she squeezed harder, not wanting to let go. “But please, don't harm my child, my child is innocent, I know you think I took everything from you,” she continued, her words made me laugh out loud, of course she had taken everything from me, my father, my husband, my home, yet she was here making a show. She moved closer and leaned on my ear, "how does it feel to loose everything," she whispered, her voice was laced with venom, then she moved back and looked at me with that fake innocent face, "I'm sorry for your loss," her lips tugged up to a mocking smile. I pulled my hand from hers with utter force making her fall backwards, she was pretending but my poor Nolan was blind to see, he rushed to hold her before she hit the ground. I rolled my eyes, what a performance, she needed an Oscar for that, she always had tricks up her sleeve. Nolan looked at me sharply. “What the hell is wrong with you, huh?” He shouted, I raised my eyebrows, “I didn't push her, maybe you're just blind to see that,” I shot back. He scooped her off her feet and carried her, “if anything happens to her, I'll make you pay with your life,” he warned before walking away with her in his arms, something shot through my heart, making it ache, just seeing him walk away from me carrying Vivian, who was wearing a smug smile like she had won almost made me loose my balance. Why was everyone against me, what did I ever do to go through this. I collected myself and walked to the elevator doors, I took out my phone and dialed that familiar number, it was received on the first beep, “babe,” that sweet voice came through. “Can you come and pick me up,” I said in a shaky voice, she didn't ask any questions, “on my way.” Ruby was the only person I could trust, now that I had lost everything, I really needed a friend and I should thank the heavens for her. It didn't take long when her car pulled in front of me, I was seated on a bench just outside the hospital, my head on my knees. “Lily,” she called out as she walked towards me, I rose my head slowly and looked up at her, my eyes were swollen from crying, she knitted her eyebrows as she sat beside me, “come here,” she whispered, I leaned my head to her chest and let out a cry, it was so ugly, I didn't realize that I was holding on to it for this long, “ssssh,” she whispered as her hands caressed my hair. “Is it that bastard again, what did he do this time, I'll go break his legs,” she said with anger, well Nolan was one of the reasons why I was crying but not the bigger one. “She is gone,” I said in a shaky voice. Ruby seemed to understand, she didn't ask any more questions and continued to pat my head gently, “there ... there, ssssh.”Lily“Watch where you're going bitch,” a sharp voice retorted. LilyI arrived at the hospital's door, my heart was drumming in my ears, my hands were shaky, was it because I was anxious to see my mother again? I wasn't really sure.I ran to the elevator and pressed on the third floor button with impatience. When the door opened I took to my heels to her room. “Mum,” I shouted, when I arrived at the ward door, tears had filled my eyes and I couldn't help but burst out crying. It had been so long since I had seen my mother lively, I had missed her dearly and all I wanted to do was go and look deep into her green eyes and tell her about how I had suffered when she was away, how cruel life had been without her, I wanted to cry in her chest. I wanted to hold her warm hands and make her promise me that she won't ever leave me again. I wanted to tell her that we will run away together and go start our life afresh with his grand child, away from my blind father and his wife, away from Nolan, away from Vivian. I darted my eyes to the room, but it was awfu
Lily“I came for answers,” I said in a flat tone, my father's expression hardened, I could tell that he was already irritated and I had not yet said what I wanted.“What nonsense are you talking about now,” he said dismissively. In the past, his tone would make me flinch and apologize profusely for wasting his time, but not today.“Three years ago,” I began, each word deliberate, “ I was told that I could never have children, that I was infertile and had a zero chance.” I stared at them instinctively, then I saw it, a flicker passed between them, but they masked it again. My heart thudded in my chest as I continued, “ but now,” my voice was tight in my throat, I was struggling despite how controlled I tried to be, “ I've found out that it wasn't true, the diagnosis was all fake.”They stared at me blankly, as if I wasn't supposed to figure out what was being hidden.“If I remember correctly, I was with you,” I pointed to Clara,” she glared back at me, “ you're the one who recommended
Lily I arrived at the villa, the hell of a home I grew up in, I felt nauseous by the sight of its white walls and the so called beautiful garden planted with venom by my witch of a stepmother.I walked to the front grey door, my blood boiled in my veins, I curled my hands into tiny balls untill my knuckles felt numb. I hated this place, I wasn't planning on coming back anyway because everyone who breathed here hated me to the core, and the lawful owner, my mother was taken out and she was a vegetable at the hospital. I took in a deep breath then twisted the golden door knob.As always, that venomous woman was seated on the couch, draped in red silk while enjoying sipping tea. A maid was massaging her shoulders as another servant was on one knee, a plate full of grapes in hand as she fed her one at a time. Her face was covered in a white face mask."Wow… you’ve really settled in, haven’t you? Must be nice playing queen in a kingdom you stole.” I shouted, making the servants stop what
LilyThe next day, I woke up early, Ruby was still asleep, her couch was quite comfortable since I didn't see the reason for me to walk all the way to the bedroom so I slept in the coach the whole night.I was hungry, so I walked into the kitchen and fixed myself a drink. There were bananas in the fridge. I warmed some milk and blended the mixture to make a smoothie. It was soothing to my stomach, at least it was nutritious and something I could go by.I was downing the nutritious drink when pain shot through my head like a lightning strike, it was sudden and unforgiving. I winced at the pain, I reached out my hand to touch my head when a sharp stab pierced my temples, making it hard to even think straight. It felt like needles pressing into my skull, each second worse than the last. This all came from the crying yesterday and the stress I was going through. I wanted to go to the bathroom and take some of Ruby's painkillers then I remembered doctor Hayes advice. I shouldn't take just
LilyI don't know how long I had drifted to sleep but I was woken up by a nurse, she was wearing a pink uniform, her hair tightened into a ponytail, she flushed me a gentle smile as her arm tapped my shoulder gently. “ Miss, it's time for the patient's medication, you'll have to leave.” I woke up, and sat up straight, my eyes were red from all the crying and still sleepy, anyone who saw me would say I looked miserable. Although I had all the reasons to be. I nodded in understanding and took my bag. I stood up, gave my mother one final look and walked out. My head was aching, I guess it's from all the frustration, and my stomach growled in hunger. I almost forgot I had a stranger in there and he or she didn't care what I was going through and needed to eat. I walked to the hospital's cafeteria and wanted to order a coffee but I changed my mind. Although I was going through it, it was unfair to feed my child harmful food. If I remember correctly, doctor Hayes forbade me from taking ca
Lily I walked out of the door and got into my car, tears welled in my eyes. My heart twisted painfully in my chest, three years of marriage and for what. I twisted the key and the engine roared to life, I knew where I was going. I was going to see the person who never stopped loving me and cari
LilyI was woken up with a sharp scream coming from outside, it was no doubt that it was Vivian seeking attention. Nolan stood up from the bed panicking, he didn't even bother to put a shirt on as he ran out of the room.I rolled my eyes as I followed him to the guest room. He walked towards Vivian
Lily “What the fuck are you doing here,” I said between clenched teeth.Nolan stood from his chair as if not expecting me. “Lily, what are you doing here?” He asked unbothered by my outburst.“ Well you should tell me what she's doing here?”Vivian rolled her eyes, then she stood from the chair th
Lily I sat on the cold steel chair in the hospital hallway. The whole time my thoughts were floating around me. People walked in the hallway, doctors rushing from one room to the other, while families carried bouquets of flowers and fruit baskets for their loved ones. They were the happy ones. I
