“Nobody in this world can remain dependent on one party forever. My parents aren’t well, and I need to go back to my hometown for a blind date and get married. Since Mr. Quinn has approved it, I’ll carry through with the proper handover process. I’ll be leaving in a month. Thank you.”After hanging up, Yara Summers went back to packing her things. She had lived in this villa for three years. She did not have many belongings, but they had piled up over time. She kept only the essentials and got rid of the rest.As the room slowly emptied, she froze for a moment. A flood of memories came back to her.Eight years ago, Yara, a girl from a modest family in a small town, got into Highton University. There, she became best friends with Yelena Quinn, the heiress of a wealthy family in Jadewood.Despite coming from very different worlds, the two girls clicked instantly. They went to class together, ate together, shopped together, and spent every day together.Gradually, Yara was drawn int

Yara watched him walk away until he disappeared from sight. The tears she had held back for so long finally fell. She forced herself to stand. She ignored the pain, went to get a broom and a mop, and started cleaning the broken cups and spilled coffee on the floor.A few kind coworkers came over to help. Their eyes were full of sympathy when they looked at her.“I clearly heard her say iced, no sugar. How can she turn it around like that? Yara, did you do something to upset her?”“Does she even need a reason? I’ve heard so many people say she’s arrogant and bossy. The moment she’s in a bad mood, she takes it out on someone. Lots of people in our circle can’t stand her. But Mr. Quinn spoils her, so no one dares to offend her.”“Sigh. I’ve never seen Mr. Quinn care about anyone this much. Yara, you should be more careful from now on. We’re just ordinary people. We can’t compare to someone like her. She’s a rich heiress, and she has Mr. Quinn’s backing. Even if we’re being treated un

That sentence cut Yara like a knife. It pierced her chest and tore at her already broken heart. Her deeply scarred heart felt like it was being ripped apart. She felt unbearable pain. Her mind buzzed, and her eyes were empty and numb.At some point, everyone in the hall had left. Only the bright lights remained, showing all the marks on her body. She forced herself to stand. She picked up the coat a kind waiter had left and wrapped it around herself. She staggered out of the hall.Outside, heavy rain poured. She walked into it without noticing it.The cold raindrops hit her face and ran down like tears. But she could not shed a single one.She did not know where she was going. She wandered through the streets without direction.A car stopped beside her.The window rolled down. Marcus’ cold, sharp face appeared.“Get in.”Yara did not answer. She dragged her heavy body through the rain.Marcus frowned and said more firmly, “Get in.”Yara stopped. She lifted her pale, blo

“No! Quiana has to go to the hospital first! I can’t let anything happen to her! Nothing is more important than her safety!”Marcus’ frantic shouts were the last thing Yara heard before she passed out.Darkness closed in and swallowed her.It felt like she had been trapped in a long nightmare. When she finally opened her eyes, she saw Yelena standing beside the bed. Her eyes were teary.“Yara, I just got back and heard you were in an accident. The doctor said you lost a lot of blood. They almost couldn’t save you. I was so scared.”When Yara saw her, all the pain she had kept inside came rushing out.Her eyes welled up. She could not hold back anymore and hugged her tightly.“I’m fine. Don’t worry.”They held each other for a long time. After a while, Yelena poured her a glass of water and helped her drink. She remembered the doctor’s advice and tried to talk about something lighter.“Have you been happy these past few years? Has Marcus treated you badly? Didn’t you say you

When Yelena heard that name, her anger boiled over. She helped Yara up and stormed straight into Marcus’ office.“Quiana, don’t push your luck! Yara hasn’t done anything to you. Why are you making her kneel? She’s Marcus’ secretary and has nothing to do with you. Who do you think you are, acting like the CEO’s wife?”Marcus was inside. Seeing Yara looking so distressed, he frowned and was about to ask what happened when Quiana threw herself into his arms.“Marcus, I didn’t do anything. I have no grudge against Ms. Summers. Why would I suddenly make her kneel? I don’t even know what I did to offend her. She is slandering me.”Yelena’s anger exploded when she heard Quiana twisting the story. She stormed up to her and slapped her.“That’s a lie! Yara would never lie!”Quiana had never been treated like that before. She covered her face and started crying. “Marcus, your secretary is slandering me, and now even your sister is helping her bully me. Fine. You’re all family, anyway. I’m
